That's because it was all about testing testing testing. And money going to those testing companies.
God forbid politicians give teacher resources to use how they see fit.
Wow, thought I was the only one! I literally have this exact dream probably once every other month. That and the first day of school and I can't find my schedule and don't know where to go and can't open my locker...
I failed 6th-10th grade. Due to home issues I just stopped going to school or Id show up once a week or part days.
They just kept pushing me along.
Its complicated but I was a smart student, until the homelife stuff I had straight and entered middle school in advanced highschool classes, but then my parents split and school seemed pointless as I had no one that really gave a shit what I did.
The school system would just have me take exams and be like "good enough" and move me along. Oddly I was still in advanced classes til 10th when I officially dropped out. Didn't ask, didn't care.
Ironically I went to University when I was 22, explained I never finished highschool. They had me take an entrance example and gave me a highschool diploma, not. GED, an actual state diploma.
Of course I quit that as soon as I got an engineering.
I still have mixed feelings about. Being honest, if you don't count all my certifications, I have about a 5th grade level education. Sometimes I wonder what the point of all of it was.
Meh, just another anecdotal experience being used as a referendum on a larger issue, or an excuse for quitting. This exact scenario isn’t new, this teacher just doesn’t have the appetite/ability to push back on administration. In other words, it’s a you problem, not a them problem.
Dumping that entirely on the teacher is garbage. The student failed by not showing up. The parents failed by not caring. The administrators failed by even considering graduating the student. And you're blaming the _teacher_?!?
With all the eloquence and respect that is deserved: Fuck off.
I was a big skipper my senior year. I had to do a few Saturday schools to make up for all of my unexcused absences. I didn’t find out if I would graduate till literally minutes before our graduation rehearsal.
I also still dream about classes I’ve never attended to this day.
I had a history teacher in 11th grade that let me use my final exam grade as the grade for the semester that I’d mostly skipped. She actually knew me from when I had attended class and was aware that I was really into history though, and it was a kindness on her part rather than something the administration pushed. If anyone was paying attention, I’m sure she had to account for that A in with all of the Fs from my other classes.
