Think this is a fair trade?

I currently have a 2015 ram 1500 with a 3.6 v6 and 180k miles, but it keeps just breaking random things constantly and i can’t afford to buy the parts currently, radiator is currently cracked down the side. i was thinking of trading it with my friend for a 2000 jeep wrangler sport 2 door. 116k miles with a 5 speed and 4wd. i do know the torque converters has been looked in, it has gasket silicone around the back of it, but it’s so much cheaper on parts compared to my current vehicle even if it has a couple problems. i’m stuck and just unsure what to do, and don’t know if this is the best subreddit for this

There’s no upside to this. Jeep and Dodge are both Stellantis products. Jeep is notoriously bad. It’s a “from the frying pan into the fryer” situation. My dad always told me to smile, it could be worse. I smiled, and it got worse. Don’t do this to yourself.

Neither of those are Stellantis products, they are too old. A 2015 Dodge came from FCA, not much better than Stellantis. The 2000 Jeep would be a DCX product still running a Jeep engine, hopefully the 4.0 which will run forever. The part about being a 5 speed and torque converter makes no sense. Trading a 10 year old truck for a 25 year old Jeep just changes what you are working on. Any vehicle that age is going to need repairs. You’re going to be buying parts driving anything that old.

Thanks for the correction on the timing of being Stellantis or not. So much for me trying to sound smart. lol.

i understand, never said it was the best, just that my dodge has wiring problems that are slooowly starting to appear and i know it’s gonna hit suddenly. but i currently have the jeep and using it for the next couple days, i am gonna see if i like it more than my current vehicle

You call him a friend but are willing to have him take your truck with a cracked radiator and harness issues?

friend knows everything that is currently wrong on it, and know everything wrong on the jeep as well. it’s a mutual thing, i don’t try to mess people up

No this is a bad idea all together.
Every vehicle requires things over time.
This is inevitable. All you're doing is changing your vehicle from a car you're familiar with (history and repairs and known issues) to something you're not.
At the 100-150k mile mark, this is major maintenance items for any and every car, from your legendary Toyota to an Italian Alfa Romeo Suspension components are needing service, rubber has dried out and become brittle, gaskets, seals are leaking, fluids need replacing.
You've already done the Majority of the work with your 2015. You're just asking for more work with the trade.

Both are going to "break" regularly.... All the subcomponents were designed to last 10 years and 100k miles... Just like every other car, Honda and Toyota included. Radiator, wheel bearings, ball joints, shocks ... Nothing lasts forever. I absolutely would not trade for a 27 year old wrangler
