What kind of documentation do you need to take dog across state lines?

I’ve had my dog with me in the truck for about 6 years now. 1. As far as documents go, just keep their vaccination record with you. I’ve never had to show it to anyone but it can’t hurt to have. 2. I try not to spend any extended amounts (no more than 2hrs) of time out of the truck, at least when going places I cannot bring my dog. You’ll need to regulate the temperature inside of your truck somehow when you’re outside of it. Lots of trucks have APU’s or opti-idle, same things you’d use to keep yourself comfortable while sleeping. 3. Depending on what freight you are hauling, the facilities you pick up from, and the areas you run, finding an area outside can be a hassle sometimes. Some customers are very strict about not allowing pets outside while on their property. It’s not uncommon for those same places to take half a day to unload/load you. I always walk my dog before going to a new place just in case. 4. When breakdowns happen, having a pet can make the situation more difficult. I’ve had tow truck drivers refuse to let my dog in their cab, and if it’s an extended breakdown finding a pet friendly hotel can be challenging depending on the area. Repair shops are usually pretty accommodating as long as your animal is well behaved, but I’ve also been to a shops that don’t allow them inside. I love having my dog with me. No matter how frustrating of a day I’ve had she is always ready to curl up with me in bed and kick back. Shes going to be with me for the remainder of her time on this earth (a healthy 14.5 years old now). But there are definitely times it is incredibly inconvenient to have her on the truck.
