Someone selling a Used ebike for $2800 and new one costs $2799.

I am really curious why people think because they change pedals and add mirrors. They can sell used bikes for same or even higher than new one.
And once you get you don't have warrranty you don't know what condition the bike is (maybe has a chronic electronic problem).
Pitiful-Department80@reddit
Some of these bikes are priced to the point where you can get a decent scooter or a used car for the same amount
Own-Particular6321@reddit
You could get a NEW Honda Ruckus for $2800
Square-Turnip-6558@reddit
Love the ruckus but I just went to the website and it’s $2900 plus $300 shipping and you gotta put it together
Own-Particular6321@reddit
You still have to pay shipping and assemble damn near every e-bike you buy online unless you go to a bike shop. Still a better deal than this specific bike.
Square-Turnip-6558@reddit
It’s used on marketplace. It’s already assembled and you pick it up from their house. Have a nice weekend.
Own-Particular6321@reddit
It's also significantly lower and less reliable. You too.
jedadkins@reddit
Right? A Honda Navi is ~$2,000 brand new
secondhandoak@reddit
I've seen used ones around me for about that price. I suppose you can avoid some of the dealer fees. Tough to know what to do. buy new or almost new.
PrideTrick7303@reddit (OP)
I can justify the price maybe. But I can't justify someone selling used bike for more than brand new one.
MindToxin@reddit
Some people just put a high price on stuff, so that there is room to negotiate down with the buyer, to a price the seller already knows that they will accept. I never understood this logic personally!! Why not just put the lowest price you’ll accept on the item from the beginning?
I’m a small business owner and sell used electronics (computers, phones, tablets…) I always put nearly the lowest price I’ll accept on an item and that is determined based on the current marketplace or eBay price. My stuff sells fast and at a fair price! I personally hate negotiating prices as a seller. I’d rather just tell someone that my price is fair and you won’t find it elsewhere for much less. Seems like the honest way to do business to me 🤷♂️
bobbyboogie@reddit
Asking and getting are two different things.
kurisu7885@reddit
Exactly. The one selling doesn't understand depreciation.
AMC2Zero@reddit
You can't actually buy the bike for that price because shipping, taxes, and insurance (optional) are added at checkout. In my area it's about $3400 shipped.
Yeahbuddy_420@reddit
True. Knowing that, I still purchased the Wired Predator for nearly $4200. Pricey but fun as hell
snoogins355@reddit
That bike is truly insane! I don't think anything will top it. Maybe regen braking
AMC2Zero@reddit
What about the fixed costs like insurance and registration? Those would easily eclipse the cost of a bike.
I don't have an extra 6k a year to spend on insurance and gas.
Emotional-Ad6039@reddit
Shipping is $300
ChimmyCharHar@reddit
Or an actual emtb for actual trails.
TRAKRACER@reddit
What’s the question? ???People can ask what ever they want to sell something for. If you don’t like the price don’t buy it.Am I missing something??
Ohm_Slaw_@reddit
Some people compute the sales price of an item not based on what a buyer would pay, but on what they have in it. "I paid $2,800, therefore it is worth $2,800." They want to recover their entire cost when they sell, losing nothing.
Of course it doesn't work that way.
iH8MotherTeresa@reddit
You see it all the time on swap subreddits. Sometimes people just won't listen to reason. Especially if it's something new or like new. Bro, it's secondary market (generally speaking); you ain't getting what you paid for a a new thing.
LoudPack3000@reddit
Had someone try and sell me 1200$(new) e bike with 900 miles on it for 1800, claiming it was discontinued and isn't available in the US anymore... And it's "fully assembled" 🤣 he told me it was for people who are "impatient" and don't want to assemble or wait 2 weeks for delivery 🤣
iH8MotherTeresa@reddit
Was it a Yamaha lmao. People are doing that shit with the stuff Yamaha fire sold. They pulled out of the market and cut like 60% off. People still advertise them as whatever the msr. Ex: my bike was like 2 grand but sold for 1200. I've seen people try to get that MSRP 🤣
LoudPack3000@reddit
Idek tbh, it was a Walmart brand and it was in stock still I could have ordered it that day for 1200 or w.e lol most of the people I messaged that were sellers of these e bikes I think they were kids because the prices were ridiculous and negotiating with these people was crazy 🤣 finally got a decent deal, brand new zooz e bike with 350 miles on it for 1500, all I had to do was order a new throttle 🤷
iH8MotherTeresa@reddit
Immediate no lol. I haven't used marketplaces to buy one but it sounds like a headache. Some people are just so unrealistic lol
LoudPack3000@reddit
Yeaa when I saw Walmart brand I was like hell nahh then the price difference and I called dude out on it he started telling me a bunch of bs 🤣
Taiyoryu@reddit
They overestimate demand and underestimate supply. It takes a unique situation for demand to outstrip supply. It’s common with ticket sales for popular events or new releases of popular products leading to scalping which is a form of secondary market.
A more mundane example is used car prices. Because supply chain issues caused by the pandemic, older models were sometimes better equipped than newer models, and that caused prices to increase for specific used cars to the point buyers would be willing to pay more than what sellers spent to acquire the car. Then as the supply of used cars dwindled, used car prices as a whole went up.
PrideTrick7303@reddit (OP)
you are spot one. This is how their brain works.
unseenmover@reddit
their attempting to recover the cost of the upgrades. Maybe the bike has really low mileage but is the waranty transferable
good luck to um..
REDMOON2029@reddit
send them a msg and offer a ridiculous lowball
Optimal_Basis7301@reddit
Supply and demand on Wired ebikes. They are always on pre order. I would pay it but someone who wants it now vs waiting a month or more might.
f4nick8er@reddit
dont buy it!
flgatorrrrr@reddit
Then don't buy it
satchelbutter@reddit
They’re delusional- case closed
CerebralAccountant@reddit
Someone near me is selling a new Portola, in box, for $950. They're fighting an uphill battle, to say the least.
rawrlycan@reddit
Looks like he's including a dropper post new seat and a motorcycle ramp, as well. Not sure what the ramp costs but all those accessories PLUS the fact that some people would have to bring the bike to a shop to put together ( if they aren't mechanically inclined ) so they save on that cost. All in all, the accessories probably cost roughly 300-500$ and he will probably have to haggle on price since it's Facebook, so if he drops another 500$ off the price he would be losing about 1000$ on the transaction, depending on how new the bike is. That's not totally unreasonable. I doubt he will get what he's asking thought.
rocketwidget@reddit
This isn't an eBike thing, it's a Craigslist thing. There are a million unreasonably priced items that won't sell. The sellers will either never sell their items, or eventually figure out what the market price is.
snoogins355@reddit
Already assembled and ready to go is a plus. I recently got a new bike and the shipping was such a clusterfuck (bike and batteries shipped separately but both has the same shipping code) and one battery had a defect, so the company shipped another one ($700 value but I had to be home to sign again).
You won't get the warranty though
PrideTrick7303@reddit (OP)
which bike is it ? Magician Alpha ?
snoogins355@reddit
Yes
Ur-in-a-tor@reddit
Add possible shipping if not included, and possibly the assembly fee on top of that $2799. The price still remains high, imo, depending on the shipping fee and what's left of the warranty. My bike's shipping was free but the preassembly was €300 (which I gladly paid.)
BodSmith54321@reddit
Wired used to take months to ship so getting it right away is a benefit. plus no shipping or tax $600.
Top-Watercress5948@reddit
They’re approx $3400 w/tax & shipping. Depending on how many miles are on it and the condition, it’s not a horrible deal. Not an incredible deal, but not a horrible one either.
Michael-Brady-99@reddit
Yeah for people in WA you are looking at 10%+ sales tax
Michael-Brady-99@reddit
For a local buyer in WA you have over 10% sales tax and any shipping cost if you buy new. With the extras that adds up to a bit of savings but still too high. But most people usually list high in anticipation of taking a lower offer.
csfrankie289@reddit
Same bike they're trying to sell for $720 when you can get it brand new for $599
csfrankie289@reddit
csfrankie289@reddit
Look at this guy
Equivalent-Account58@reddit
But at that price it is doubtful that they will ever sell it.
snoogins355@reddit
With gas prices at $6/gallon in Seattle, they might
Relative-Display-676@reddit
The best thing on that bike is dropper post which is ~$150. Cloud 9 seat is $30, I have one. Bar end mirror is $10. Motorcycle rack with ramp is ~$80.
The bikes major drawback is it's heavy as fuck and has serious death wobble, hence the reason they are known in bike world as wired wobbles.
PrideTrick7303@reddit (OP)
Yeah both wired and magician has death wobble.
I didn't catch the dropper post. but is it $150 ??? Recently I bought one exa brand for $35. not great but does the work.
ChimmyCharHar@reddit
Early generation did not. It’s when they added the 2nd battery on the rear that issues began. But that battery is removable. My issue is that the bike is a pavement queen at best. Too fat and chunky to be any use on decent trails.
snoogins355@reddit
Yup, it's good for long commutes and keeping up with traffic on main roads. The full suspension is very comfy
PrideTrick7303@reddit (OP)
It can handle some basic trails but thats best i guess. You see most of the high end mtb are still 36V with 2.3 tires. For mtb the weight and maneuver are vital.
gravelpi@reddit
A PNW coast dropper is probably that much, especially with the lever and cable. I have a Loam, PNW makes great stuff.
Top-Watercress5948@reddit
Meh, some bikes would wobble if you let go of the handlebars at higher speeds, which is stupid as shit to do to begin with. Overall they’re built pretty solid with good QC. They also made the headset better to eliminate any potential issue. They’re fun bikes to ride with decent build quality for the price point, but snobs like to shit on things.
csfrankie289@reddit
People often over price the TST R002 and the Amyet G60 all the time...I usually drop the price $200-$300 from original sales price no matter what bike it is to be fair...???
ValueSkew@reddit
No harm trying to get lucky 😂
snowmountain_monkey@reddit
He's selling it with a hitch mounted motorcycle rack.

Naaah. Depends on the mod is a value add mods. IF he put extra battery then it has value but generally it works like this. 600$ you invest extra you can ask for $400-5000
