Why is the idea of a drive thru bank or atm so odd to Europeans? Do they think someone is gonna run up and snatch your money or something lol?
__life_on_mars__@reddit
Because we walk.
DreamsServedSoft@reddit
I live in a 3000 sq ft house on 4 acres of land. my closest store is 5 miles away. the town is over 15. you live in a non-ADL compliant communist-friendly 350 sq ft apartment bloc that was built before 567, costs more than my house, and still smells of raw sewage
__life_on_mars__@reddit
It's ok, I know you're just jealous I can actually fit through the double doors at the bank.
no_4@reddit
Hey the topic is your shitty home not our shitty health, buddy.
Castillon1453@reddit
Our houses are smaller but are actually houses and not glorified tents made of cardboard and foam
tomtheconqerur@reddit
I can fit snuggly in your mother.
jabroni5@reddit
Its ok to be jealous, I can fit through a single door.
Lynorisa@reddit
i can fit through a garage door
circlejerker2000@reddit
Then you have a mild flu and go bankrupt because you get robbed at the doctor's office lol
TomaszA3@reddit
Why are you throwing around fake units of measurement when speaking towards europeans?
DonnieMoistX@reddit
So because you walk your whole society is too stupid to grasp the simple differences in a society that drives?
Crafty-Beyond-2202@reddit
Sounds gay

Atms are common in Europe, unlike bank drive-thrus. What are the actual advantages of a bank drive-thru? With restaurants it makes sense, cuz for example if you’re on a trip and you get hungry you can hit the first place you see, you can save the food for later, you can avoid having to find a seat inside, but with a bank? If you’re in a hurry you go to an atm, if you need to do more complex operations you head inside, there isn’t much middle ground between the two so what’s the point of having a third option?
utan@reddit
It's so boomers can deposit checks and yell at someone over an intercom without leaving their car, then they go to the pharmacy drive-thru for blood pressure meds before hitting up the Taco Bell drive-thru for dinner.
IAmMadeOfNope@reddit
It's a way of improving overall efficiency.
A busy bank in a densely populated area can now divide the crowd and into two different places. The hours can also be longer for drive-thrus without having to worry about additional security.
It's for the same exact reason fast food has them.
QFB-procrastinator@reddit
Yeah, i get it. As i said, it just seems “overkill”, but i clearly don’t know how busy banks can get in the US.
BanzaiKen@reddit
Incredibly. Bank hours are 9-5 so its a madhouse from 4 onwards as people get off work. The rest of the day the poors and housewives use it, which isnt too much these days.
no_4@reddit
You don't have to park or leave your car.
The drive thru usually has an ATM as well if a real person isn't needed.
Mangeytwat@reddit
It's because Europe has these things called towns where the people live in houses that surround a street or streets that are full of shops, on the streets are cash machines and banks. Even the cities are just clusters of towns that have developed along the same lines.
The American way of there being houses with no shops or services at all around them is very strange and only possible in a nation that was built up rapidly in the back of insane levels of immigration.
Round_Bullfrog_8218@reddit
Are we pretending like Europe isn't majority car transport to? It's a lower than the US but quite a bit but it's still the majority of trips and the vast majority of miles
Fisherman_Gabe@reddit
Most banks in my city don't even have parking, much less a drive thru. 😭 To me, the bank has always been somewhere one walks to unless you're a ruralcel.
AlphaMassDeBeta@reddit (OP)
Isn't that already possible though?
RealScionEcto@reddit
If you want a serious answer, it's so the banks can have unmanned 24 hour ATMs without having to risk letting people inside the building. It's also used so people don't have to wait in line for an ATM inside.
burgonies@reddit
Drive thru banks existed before ATMs
RealScionEcto@reddit
Huh. The more you know.
Fab_iyay@reddit
Couldn't you just make the atm accessible from ouside withou a whole drive thru?
igerardcom@reddit
NEIN!
gatosaurio@reddit
You just blew his mind...
_BEER_@reddit
Reminds me of the game Saints Row 2 (underrated as hell btw) with its drive through chapels that'd remove your wanted level. I bet those things exist in real life America by now.
CobandCoffee@reddit
I've heard of drive through wedding chapels in vegas (don't know if that's still a thing) and during COVID some churches had drive-in services where people stay in their parked cars and the sermon would be delivered outside.
clayticus@reddit
There are even drive through liquor stores
FormerPresidentBiden@reddit
Beer barns in Texas are something else lol
Then there's the drive thru daiquiri places in NOLA where the sticker over the straw hole makes it not an open container 😂
Superspookyghost@reddit
I’m from Nola (yes, I am a powerful raging alcoholic) and honestly Louisiana had some of the best liquor laws in the country. It used to be that there was a loophole that it was only illegal to try to buy alcohol underage but not to sell it so there was 0 penalty for anyone that sold alcohol to people that were underage or even bother to id them. Everything good is taken from us
UntBag@reddit
We used to be a proper country 😖
Cozy_Minty@reddit
The bank drive thru has a really cool pneumatic tube, I would choose it every time
AlphaMassDeBeta@reddit (OP)
Thats how I got banned from the bank.
AnalysisParalysis85@reddit
They even get a quicky ATM
SenorFry@reddit
Kind of miss the days of going through the drive through bank with my Grandma, just had a vibe, pneumatic tube and all that, they were neat
igerardcom@reddit
The bank I used to go to with my grandma would put candy in the tube for me. :)
PinBeneficial1366@reddit
Americans really have that shit? If slavery is still existed, would they created a drive thru niggastore?
NotGivinMyNam2AMachn@reddit
I've had Americans tell me it is safer or more secure. Still can't work that out.
FistmyBump1@reddit
Drive throughs are legally mandated on all buildings now, because so many Americans would struggle to walk even from the parking lot.
Theroux721@reddit
As real as the Tiddy Bear and Wal-Mart AKs
Dubsteprhino@reddit
Anything to avoid leaving the car
