Bidding on my first project today

75 MGB. Fairly clean overall. A few rust dots. Will need a new hood, roof, and mirror. I think I'm capping my max at 1k. It's an estate auction in a town of 500 people so hopefully I can snag it for less.

Good luck! And don't be upset too much if you were not successful - there will be plenty of other variants!

$1k is the right place to stop anybody bidding higher is a fool.
Make sure the paperwork is in a row, document the fact it's been sitting unclaimed for however long.

Great info. I appreciate it. I'm pretty nervous to overpay honestly. I know 90% of rust is under the surface and I don't weld. I'm not worried mechanically

MGBs are way over built. As long as the seat is still able to be bolted down and you still have some floor around your feet, it’s fine.

Depending on where you are, rust holes need to be fixed in order to get/keep it registered though..

Hah I leaned on a ghia right next to a 80 mgb as a 20yo. Super easy, barley an inconvenience (took an evening votech autobody class after work)

Go to harbor freight and get a flux core might for about 100 bucks. Pick up a grinder while your there, prest, your a welde!

As someone who owns an MGB, i would cap it around $750 at most
It’s going to need everything, and they do not do well with sitting
Also, just prepare yourself. There is going to be a lot more rust.
Oh, and if that front windshield is cracked, I wouldn’t even bid on it

Didn’t expect to see that monstrosity shoehorned into the engine bay of your MG, well done 💀

Windshield is fine but the hood is definitely cracked
myfishprofile@reddit
Make sure you check that windshield thoroughly, get all the dust off of it and make sure it’s actually good
Replacing that glass is more difficult than throwing a small block in it

Thanks for the info. I'll look again at the details

Ah, a rubber bumper MG. Let’s hope you don’t have smog where you live. Also, Please don’t keep the engine stock, low compression b series are a dog. Even my “high compression” b was a dog. It even still is after countless amounts of $$$.
That being said, I think this is a GREAT project car. Dead simple, Relatively reliable, and fun in the backroads. Remember to check the harness. Lucas, the prince of darkness, stands for “Loose Unions, Crimps, And Solderings”

Look at those sills. One pic looks like a bondo special. Probably tons of rust you can’t see.

I used to own a 79 MGB. Great car.

They made a lot of those, so even if that one doesn't work out you will find one.
