Is there a plague of ants going on?

All the pavements, roads and car parks I've walked across today have lots of little sandy eruptions around paving stones and edges of tarmac where ants are appearing. Is it everywhere or just here in Suffolk?
And any ideas why - warm weather, an abundance of sweet sap and aphids for them to farm, or perhaps they're about to turn into flying ants? Think that's usually June/July though.

Had a three-inch centipede one night earlier this week. Had to get the hoover out at midnight, neighbours or no neighbours.

They are all in my garden farming aphids, maybe yours are on their way after hearing of the abundance.

It’s likely the heat. It’s been hot as fuck in Newcastle idk where you are but this is likely it.
