Got to sit in a cockpit for the first time today!

I've been obsessed with aviation since listening to the radio series Cabin Pressure, which lead to me learning about the NTSB and their investigations, and then I started planespotting and playing Skycards. This is my third time in a plane!

It's just a lil Baby Bus (which is the cutest nickname for a plane ever), and the pilots let me view the cockpit and even sit in the captain's chair for some photos while the copilot explained what all the different buttons did. I know it's probably a small thing for you guys, but this was super cool for me!

When I fly, I always think about asking, but am always afraid to. I understand your joy! From a 50F who just loves to fly but otherwise has zero connection to the aviation world.

I think I can speak for most pilots. I don’t care what age you are if you want to come up and take a look I’m always happy to have you upfront. Just as long as we aren’t too busy or trying to make up during a delay. But it will never hurt to ask.

Thanks for this. I am always REALLY scared to ask but it would be a bucket-list level life moment to have this happen (also 50F). Would it be most appropriate to ask when leaving a flight to avoid any possibility of causing a delay?

I think I have a decent sense of reading the room in terms of who not to ask / when not to ask (wouldn’t interrupt, etc.) but genuinely afraid of how they would react given that I’m an adult.

I am so jealous in the best possible way. I’m 50F and too afraid to ask. Actually I asked once a few years ago and the flight attendant said they’d check (it was on arrival) but they seemed too busy, so I said thanks and just moved on.

When I got to sit in the cockpit of a LOT Ejet, I had the largest grin possible, so I know I'd definitely do the same

Haha I love it. I also love how all of us nerds are same. I also been in cockpit after my first transoceanic flight and I also couldn't contain myself and asked cap where everything is and he took my pictures and I got trading cards. Also with my every question he grew more happy and giddy 🤭 In the end we are all just passionate people about planes and flying ♥️

little correction: the Baby Bus is the A318. Easyjet's smallest plane is the A319

The plans was coming in to land when Martin did his whole "there's noooo need to panic... Or look out the window!" when talking about his 'mysterious sleeping sickness'

It’s not a small thing. I’m retired now, but I enjoyed visits by teenagers and adults who were truly interested in flying. I preferred those over the parents who brought their kids up (many not wanting to be there) just for a photo op.

I asked the cabin manager when I boarded, and she said she'd ask the pilots. She then told me to go right through once the plane landed :)

Yeah, they were both on their tablets when I walked in and then one of them leaned up to turn on the switch 😅 I knew what they were doing but it was still cool
