My Gen-X trait when reading the radio scroll

When driving the newer car, the radio is capable of displaying the artist and song. It's also capable of displaying anything the station wants to, which means it often displays advertisements.
My Gen-X trait is that every time it displays "Lawyers" and then goes on to advertise for a business, I get angry that it doesn't then display "Guns & Money".
My non-Gen-X trait is looking for the scroll on the radio in the car that predates text displays.

My Gen-X trait driving is checking mirrors, doing a shoulder check, and not looking at the little camera screen on my dash that provides that view.

Who still listens to terrestrial radio?
Bright_Broccoli1844@reddit
I do. It's free and easy. I also listen to CDs in my car.

I listen to sports radio while I'm delivering. We have a local sports talk station that is pretty good and then numerous others for games of various sports.

We have 2 great stations here in New Orleans. Outside of here though I agree (except for KEXP in Seattle…that station rocks)

What stations? I was in town back in January and was so glad I was able to get my phone to connect because I couldn't find anything worth listening to.

WWOZ has some great shows, and so does WTUL. I love the Storm Surge on TUL on Monday afternoons

KEXP is good. You can stream them. They also have great youtube vids. Green River College used to be good as well but admittedly I haven't listened in a few years

The Thievery Corporation performance on there is one of my favorites

I don't have the type of radio in either car that allows me to pick up the alternate streams. The main station I listen to has a separate HD2 stream that plays recordings from live concerts and plays no commercials. I listen to that when I have a rental.

I know, I'm a weirdo. That entire process of 'turning all my music into a portable digital format' was something I never got around to. I recently bought physical media at the library used media sale and now have more than 50 new hours of music in the car that I can listen to without additional hardware or internet connection. And the radio works on top of the tape deck and CD player.

I do streaming. There isn't a radio station in the world that would be able to cover my main playlist. Maybe 1 of the smaller genre lists, but not my main or the rest of them. I still own physical media (LPs), but I only buy what I intend to listen to at home. I have some CD's, but I'm close to giving those up. I never touch them anymore.

I also live in a good area for broadcast radio.

There are some towns with killer terrestrial radio - Milwaukee and Seattle for example.

If any station played stuff like this on regular rotation I might listen every so often!

I have great stations where I live.

I listen to NPR on my truck radio every day. 🤷♀️

Not much makes me go full Luddite faster than an unexpected advertising stream.
Do not want.

My husband and I would play "name that tune" when we were on long car rides. He always won. But he's also 12 years older than me, and we'd get into weird discussions about how to tell who the lead singer might be.
We haven't played that game in years. I'd win because I can read the screen faster!

My brain is filled with song lyrics. If my wife gave me instructions on how to create world peace, I could hold onto the information for a couple of minutes. Sooner or later though, that would be erased in place of additional rhyming couplets.

This is why I'm still rolling the car I bought on 2007. New cars are enshittified beyond comprehension.

My wife's 2000 Miata with a load of used CDs I picked up from the library.

Nice!
