Is 16gb ddr5 enough

I was wondering if 16gb ram is enough , I play games like Apex legends , Warzone , Fortnite , I open a game and spotify and discord and the same time max no more than that
Chatek@reddit
Should be enough, but get 2x 8gb sticks
Dave6926@reddit
For that. Yes.
BeetleJuicePower@reddit
1440p monitor, i would never say 16 gb is enough. 1080p yes.
Riipp3r@reddit
1080p it's not even enough honestly. Especially if you have any other programs you wanna have going in the bg.

I used to also have 16gb ram. And it wasn't enough and constantly near max usage. And I didn't have bloat I actually min maxed as much as I could. Some games eat ram for breakfast. In fact quite a few do
BeetleJuicePower@reddit
They didn't say they had chrome open.
Riipp3r@reddit
And those also use ram believe it or not.
You're arguing just to argue atp lmao.
Lucius_vex@reddit
as someone who’s using 16gb for 3 months now 1440p btw you’ll be completely fine, i was skeptical at first bt you would be surprised how well this works
Kyro_Official_@reddit
Yes. Ive played those games with 16 and more shit open before and they all ran perfectly fine.

I have an RTX 5070 Ti/Ryzen 7 7700x, and I use 16GB DDR5 5200 MHz RAM.
I mostly play on ultra settings for games like Cyberpunk and Crimson Desert.
I've never needed more than 16GB, but the RAM usage is barely enough. You might need to upgrade to 32GB, but if you can't, 16GB is good.
But in the future, if gaming companies still release lazy, unoptimized games, then yes, you'll need more.
tronatula3@reddit
It's more than enough. No game actually requires a minimum of 16gb of ram to play smoothly
Riipp3r@reddit
Barely. 32gb was barely enough for some games like tarkov etc.
PrairieNihilist@reddit
16GB of DDR5 is plenty for the lion's share of games. Remember that it has higher throughput than DDR4, and so it's quite a bit faster. I have two DDR5 systems...one 16 GB and one 32 GB, and like 99% of the time, you can't tell the difference in gaming. You notice a little when you're using 16 GB of DDR4 vs. 32 GB, but with DDR5, you have to look for it.
Cbeckstrand@reddit
This testing shows that 16GB does not cause bottlenecks in all but a very few cases and games. It will also depend on your resolution and your video card memory.
How Much RAM Do Gamers Need? 16GB vs. 32GB vs. 64GB
TheWaspinator@reddit
I'd call it ok. A lot is going to depend on how high you push settings.
Livid_Glove_6275@reddit
I have 16GB of DDR5.
I play Minecraft with mods and shaders, CoD BO6, Warzone, have played BO7, have played Fortnite, play Cyberpunk, and Forza Horizon 5 with no issues whatsoever. Minecraft, BO6, Cyberpunk, and FH5 have been played while streaming, in a Discord VC, and playing music from a YouTube Chrome tab, often with more tabs open.
The only issue I've had was Forza Horizon 6 telling me I don't have enough RAM (all settings maxed with a 5080 at 1080p, 90+fps consistently, no upscaling/frame gen), but I haven't encounted any performance issues due to that apparent lack of RAM.
All that to say, you should be good.
sushiiixo-@reddit
yes, it's fine. you could play a game, have discord and Spotify open with 16gb of ddr3 (i know from experience :3). 32gb is only really needed if you're doing more than just gaming like video/photo editing etc., trying to stream or are playing new triple a games that aren't very optimised/are very demanding.
AirFar97@reddit (OP)
yeah thats what i thought but unfortunately some people on the internet claim gaming is impossible without 32gb ram and 16vram gpu and an oled monitor when in reality 99% of us just want something to open a game near 200 fps and we are good
Yurgin@reddit
Could be close since even windows using like 25 of that RAM, Browser etc.
I would say those games would need like 8-9ish GB RAM, havent played them in years so not sure.
So it could be close but doable. Most modern games already require/recommend 16RAM so for future proof you should go for more.
If you go DDR4 get 2sticks of 8GB RAM for fual channel. On DDR5 it isnt that wild but would also be nice to have 2 sticks
dem_titties_too_big@reddit
Yes it is enough as long as you get two sticks (dual channel).
Is it ideal, probably not but still manageable.
qwerty3666@reddit
Do you play 1440p or 1080p? One monitor or two?
For one 1080 monitor you will be ok but you will be at the limit.
For 1440 you need 32gb imo. I'm sure someone has 16 and its "fine" but you are definitely bottlenecking yourself.
For a 2 monitor setup in either case you definitely want 32gb
Particular-Award118@reddit
For those games, yeah. They aren't particularly ram hungry and the other apps are trivial. 32GB is obviously ideal to never have to worry about it but it's Samsung's world rn and we're just living in it. With what you're doing you'll have no issues on 16 and can always add in another if you're not going 8+8. Have fun.
ADo_9000@reddit
It might be, but if you experience stuttering/lag and overall bad performance you will know why.
This will be way worse if you get slow ram.
6000mhz with CL below 40 is preferred
