Dented frame caused battery damage.

So the frame of my ebike got dented in, which caused pressure on the battery which caused it to be damaged. (Pictures provided.)
Do I need a new battery or is this one somehow salvageable to still use?

Can we see a picture of the whole battery? That looks like it's just cosmetic damage to the outer plastic shell, but it's hard to tell.
Also, a dented frame is potentially a big problem. That can compromise the frame's structural integrity, making it unsafe and prone to failure under stress in the future.

The battery casing is metal not plastic, the images show it actually was eating away at it and left it pitted

If a lithium ion battery is damaged it MUST be replaced. Don’t throw it in the trash either, look up battery disposal places in your area.

It still looks like just external damage to the housing to me. It doesn't appear to have worn all the way through. In which case I'd be more concerned about the frame being structurally compromised and continuing to wear the battery housing (which eventually will become a bigger problem).

If it’s corroding the outer metal casing, there’s definitely internal damage.

I'm pretty sure OP just meant that the dent is scraping away the metal, not that it's "eating away" in the sense of corroding.

You can see the corrosion the second photo.

That's the same spot as the first photo, but it looks screwed up because OP used a flash on a shiny but textured object. The auto-exposure is adjusting for the bright spots, but making darker areas really dark in the process.

Also, lithium-ion batteries wouldn't just be leaking corrosive fluid like lead-acid batteries. And they're made of a bunch of cylindrical 18650 cells.

I know how lithium ion batteries work.
Arcanum3000@reddit
So where is your corrosion on the outside of the battery coming from?
Resplendent_Komorebi@reddit
Because I’m going off the evidence that was presented to me instead of doing mental gymnastics trying to rationalize advising someone they don’t need to replace their busted battery?

The pitting wouldn’t have been caused by impact. You can also see that the area is significantly darker than the surrounding metal in the photo OP posted in the comments.
Arcanum3000@reddit
Not impact, rubbing against a dented part of the frame. And that is inconsistent with the first picture in which it looks like scraped metal.

Sounds like you have your answer. I mean Heloooooooooo! Common Sense!! Where’d you go!!?????? Are you UNAWARE that these batteries are dangerous? Obviously you are asking here which tells me you at LEAST have put together that THIS is NOT NORMAL 🤣🤣 You are SOOOO close, it’s not a HUGE leap mentally to figure out “huh, maybe I should look up how to dispose of this battery and get a new one”
Why do people feel the need to crowdsource whether they need to wipe their butt after they poop. FFS!🤦
biscutgravy@reddit
So you think that the battery is damaged, and somehow eating away at the metal (assume by caustic material), but you are unsure if you need to replace it?
Nick_Kaiba420@reddit (OP)
I mean not all damage is terminal to batteries, I was more wondering if it is just the housing or the actual battery that's affected.
Theworker82@reddit
wrap some electrical tape around the battery so it fits snug but can still be removed easily. this will stop the battery from peeing your frame.
