After the sock challenge...

Another poster asked if you could put socks on standing. How about touching the ground without bending your knees, or standing next to a steep slope or in a hole :).
That's my effort (or are those even my feet??) though my wife can place her palm down flat (she does yoga).
Historical_Project86@reddit
No, but that's not really a sign of anything, I have never been able to and in fact some of the world's best distance runners can't either.
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
A sign of long arms proportionate to leg length?
Historical_Project86@reddit
True. I meant in terms of health, but yes, it could be a sign of freakishly long arms. :-)
Mugwumps_has_spoken@reddit
If my feet are slightly wider than shoulder width apart than yes my fingers can touch the ground without bending my knees.
And that is with severe L4/L5 left side back pain. Even the PT was shocked how far I could bend over.
Dense-Consequence-70@reddit
I can touch the ground without bending my knees, but just barely and it takes about 10 seconds to convince my hamstrings to relax enough.
mmfn0403@reddit
The real test is, can you put your knickers on without falling over!
TalFidelis@reddit
I can - as long as I don’t miss the leg hole. Then I pull myself over and my wife laughs at me.
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
Guys living on the UK generally wear "pants" or "underpants" but can wear knickers if they wish to. Or none at all but zips!
Shivs_baby@reddit
My hamstrings have always been very flexible so I can put my palms on the floor with straight legs and bent elbows.
TalFidelis@reddit
I finished a 2 mile run / walk (2/1) about two hours ago (slow as hell - 2.13 miles in 27:12). I did not stretch before or after. This is as good as I can do right now. Knees not locked, but not really bent (just soft).
If I spent 15 min stretching I could probably get close to OPs pic.
You know what I can’t do - squat comfortably with my heels on the ground. After a full range of motion squat workout I can get close, but my ankles just aren’t flexible enough. I see some folks (more women than men) just squat straight down with their butts on their heels and their heels on the ground and I get a little jealous. Not enough to do the stretching required to make that a reality for me though.

well, i was never able to touch ground without bending knees, even 25years ago. so i guess i am still at the similar state. :D no issues with the socks though.
friendofcrows11@reddit
After slipping on your hey dudes lol
Cptnmisfortune@reddit
I have 2 bad knees and I'm fat so no, I cannot reach my feet
charliefoxtrot9@reddit
But can you hammer a 6" spike through a board using your penis?
MajYoshi@reddit
A girl's gotta have standards.
Upstairs-Storm1006@reddit
The real question is whether you can suck a golf ball through a garden hose.
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
No but I could hammer a 6" spike through my penis with a board
TalFidelis@reddit
I get that reference! GenX approved!
ThisMomIsAMother@reddit
I can palm the floor pretty easily still. I’m 59
TakitishHoser@reddit
Ok, the geezer in me really wants to know about those shoes. They look comfy. What are the deets on those shoes?
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
They are very comfy but what's a "deet"?
Great for shuffling around in and taking the rubbish / garbage out.
LtLemur@reddit
“Deets” = “details”
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
Bog standard Hey Dudes. My "house shoes" as my trainers / runners tend to the mucky side, geting daily wear in my local woodland.
TakitishHoser@reddit
Thanks! They also have shoes for Dudettes! (Women)
I'm going to check them out.
Solid-Wish-1724@reddit
55F here and I lived in mine until I washed them and they shrunk. Most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.
PumpikAnt58763@reddit
I clicked on the link above and I could only see the men's. I'll try again.
TakitishHoser@reddit
As LtLenur said "Deets" mean "details"
To be sure, I'm horrible with slangs too.
Solid-Wish-1724@reddit
Hey Dude shoes for men get absolutely roasted (idk why).
PumpikAnt58763@reddit
Maybe it's like with New Balance, people are jealous that we like comfort.
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
Who knows? They've served me well enough to earn a salute when their time is eventually up.
Downtown_Anteater_38@reddit
That was my thought too. No, I can't touch the floor without bending my knees, no, I don't care, but I like those shoes...I think they are Hey Dude Wally SE Stretch Sox

Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
I am seriously non-athletic...but for some reason I've always been very flexible. 59/M, and I can put my palms mostly flat on the floor, and can actually do nearly a full split, still. (Discovered that in martial arts classes)
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
Ruenin@reddit
52 M. I can go into a full squat without issues, and I can still put my socks on standing up. Not sure why, since I'm a sedentary gamer type who dabbled in lifting weights, but I don't stretch.
freerangetacos@reddit
I can put my left sock on standing up. I cannot put my right sock on that way.
Ruenin@reddit
Yeah, definitely easier on one side than the other, for sure.
tampaforfun@reddit
My friend is a 51 year old physical therapist and amateur bodybuilder. He said that a huge test is can you steady yourself if pushed from behind. People who fall flat on their face with a slight push feom behind are at severe risk. This requires calf muscles and other stabilizers plus reflexes.
SolomonGrumpy@reddit
I mean, I'm short, so I have a low center of gravity, and a wrestlers build. No one is likely to be able to push me over, but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with anything.
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
Do you get a warning first?
BertaRocks@reddit
How the fuck are we testing this? I’m cackling like a mad woman. Honey, we have to test our balance by pushing one another from behind. I’ll go first because you can help me off the ground. If you go down I guess we will call the ambulance?
LadyNorbert@reddit
Not since I had steel rods fused to my spine forty years ago. My arms aren't long enough and I literally only bend so far.
timothra5@reddit
Rude.

badgko@reddit
Nope. Not because of pain or injuries. Just flexibility. I have no doubt I could reach that point given stretching exercises over time. I do still put my socks on while standing. Actually get fully dressed while standing. Only time I sit is when I need to lace up boots.
dth1717@reddit
I used to be flexible now I cant bend over without going " fuuuck"
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
The sound I make just after the alarm goes off and its a work day.
Electronic-Ear2329@reddit
Turn off the lights and the sock challenge bumps to a whole new level. Athletic and in shape, but GD my balance is not what it used to be!
BarefootMarauder@reddit
Ooh, you're right! I tried with my eyes closed. Much harder, but still did it without falling over.
Ouakha@reddit (OP)
Tried brushing my teeth the other day, eyes closed, balanced on one foot...I nearly hit the dog with my flailing free foot!
BarefootMarauder@reddit
A month away from turning 58... Just tested myself -- I can put palms flat on the floor with straight legs, and put my socks on while standing up.
Powerful_Ad_2506@reddit
ExtraordinaryNerd@reddit
I don’t do yoga, just bendy…can fold in half ish
cerealandcorgies@reddit
good on you! My favorite "how old am I" test is to get up from a seated position on the floor. After practicing it a bit, I can do it using one knee to assist and no hands
