It’s funny to think Beatles songs were 30 years old when we were in high school

And now, songs from when we were in high school are 30 years old
SilverAsparagus2985@reddit
I just thought about this last night. I remember the oldies being the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Now it’s the 80s, 90s and 00s.

Always a relevant XKCD…

“It’s weird how I’m constantly surprised by the passage of time when it’s literally the most predictable thing in the universe”

My nephew once called Linkin Park music for Boomers. I still haven't recovered.
Notredamus1@reddit
I heard their music on the local classic rock radio station the other day. I couldn't believe it.
cashews_clay15@reddit
I heard Stone Temple Pilots on the classic rock station and died inside a little
RoundTheBend6@reddit
Same happened to me when I first heard Nirvana on it. I feel like classic rock has a different meaning to us. It’s like the eagles bland version of soft rock, not just classics.
If it were, why didn’t they play Chuck Berry on it? It’s old and rock?
Notredamus1@reddit
In my mind classic rock is still everything from the Beatles and Stones to like Dire Straits or Springsteen. But I guess enough time has gone by to place some of the bands from the 90s and early 2000s in that category.
1_art_please@reddit
Its especially weird when it is some random song from the 90s that is now ubiquitous on classic rock. Like Closing Time and Shine by Collective Soul is still going strong

Man the word boomer has been so perverted in usage. It’s basically just “anyone older than me” at this point.
Illustrious-Lead-960@reddit
You know, people (or more likely, bots) keep posting ad infinitum about how “X would be [recent-sounding year] if it came out now” but the fact of the matter is, the concept of “thirty years ago” just plain *meant* more last century than it does now, no matter what age you already were. It was *a long time*. I mean, we’re talking about the difference between 8 Tracks still being years away from getting invented and Metallica suing Napster! People played twenty-year-old songs on “all oldies” stations and never once got questioned for it. We need to come up with some word that’s equivalent to money undergoing inflation except that this is in reference to time rather than currency.

That's a good point. It's kind of like how fashion in every decade from the 60s-90s were so unique and different from each other, and then sometime around 2002 everything just turned to "modern."
Like, what would a 2000s or 2010s theme party even look like, costume-wise? Every decade before then you can easily find shit to make you look like you're from that era, but most of the 2000s have looked pretty similar to right now.
Media quality did the same thing. TV shows from the 80s look like they were filmed in days of yore, but most shows from the last 20 years or so have the same quality as modern ones. The only tells that they're old are dated cultural references and things like flip phones or non-flat TVs and computer monitors.

It would look like Myspace scenester/emo, probably. I used to work in costuming. People would come in for a "60" or "80s" party. I could show them all sort of great stuff but they wanted disco or hippie for 60s, neon pink Madonna for 80s.
I'm waiting for saggy Umbros with a Guess t-shirt and Adidas slides to make their comback.

That’s part of the fun of r/Xennials in my opinion. I am not a bot. Just someone in their 40s reflecting on the passing of time.
ashurbanipal420@reddit
And some of us just like being reminded of Pete & Pete.

There is a word that describes the elastic/inflationary properties of time- Time Dilation. It’s a key part of both special and general relativity.
PhoneJazz@reddit
Every song the Beatles sang and wrote, they did while they were all still in their 20s. Mind-blowing.
Zer0daveexpl0it@reddit
I remember Foo Fighters's 1st album coming out 30 years ago 😬
NSAinATL@reddit
This is the one that broke me...a kids nostalgia dance these days would be my life, like a freakin' sock hop was when I was in high school. Slackers would be their Dazed and Confused. Or Reality Bites.
mastawyrm@reddit
Remember when GTA vice City came out and it was a retro setting in the 80s with that great sound track? If they did the same time gap today it would be set in 2010
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
Imagine hearing Starships, Tick Tock, and Paparazzi 50,000 times.
RoundTheBend6@reddit
Oh, I can and have and still want to jump out a window. Lady Gaga isn’t bad, but if I hear paparazzi one more time I’ll flip.
BarrelFullOfWeasels@reddit
So I guess it makes sense that they're not on the radio anymore and 90s music is. But as someone who has loved Beatles-era music since I was a preteen, I'm a little sad about that.
(I know we have a lot of alternatives to radio now, but a really like being able to just punch a "music now" button in the car when I can't be screwing with my phone.)
fearofcrowds@reddit
don't do this to me.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
My brother caught major shit for liking The Beetles. Lol However, when you share the same boomer dad you acquire an affinity for all their albums, and heard them on litetally every format.
Number Nine (Revolution 9) is the only song in stereo on the LP. That must've freaked people out.
kronik419@reddit
