Booking a train on MAV leaving Budapest going to Munchen

I'm booking a ticket on mav.hu and am reserving a seat.

Is there anyway to know what direction the train will go so I can avoid booking a seat going "backwards"?

Do the train carriage numbers go in a certain direction?

I do wonder this as well. I was in Korea a few weeks ago and they tell you on the booking app - though they don't let you select seats!

i used the austrian site (https://www.oebb.at/en/) to go through the purchase process and get to the seat map selection but booked on mav.hu (like half the price)

If it is that important, you may also try booking with OEBB on higher price. My experience is that the Máv seat reservation system cannot be trusted.

I sometimes do this mainly because the tickets are refundable and can be changed through OBB. But...the cost is higher.

this worked well, used the seat reservation on OBB to get the seat map but booked on MAV

the MAV seatmap was backwards

In general MÁV trains leaving from Budapest are numbered from wagon 1 to x where 1 is the direction of the train. Not true for GYSEV and not true for Railjet. Railjet has business class and first class at the end of the train when it leaves Budapest.

Easiest would be looking at vagonweb they have a detailed database on trains and they either have directions or seat maps. Guessing you will travel by railjet, they usually start with the children coach in the front then second class and first/business in the back with the control car

I've tried doing this before but then the seat layout chart seems to be the opposite direction from the coach chart. Or maybe they just reversed the coach? In any case it should be priority number 1 for Vitézy. :)

If you're taking the railjet then business/1st class is the last car, that shoukd help you orient your seat on the seat map. Choose selection on the graphic when given the option.
