That is 1 of 2 planes used to fly the President, Vice President and Prime Minister by India Air Force (IAF owned, operated and maintained).
That plane has nothing to do with Air India Airlines to just avoid confusion as they share same name so people might think Air India flies it which they used to prior to 2020 when Boeing delivered these planes exclusively to IAF.

Yeah but iirc earlier those were maintained by Air India when it was owned by GoI. But i might be mistaken.

The 2 planes were owned by Air India though
Air India ordered 15 777-300ER and currently operate 13 of those + 6 ex-Ethihad
They were taken when Air India was government owned

The 777 already represents the peak of airliners in their current form in my opinion, hard to believe the 777-300ER first flew in early 2000s while Airbus was busy with A340 and A380.

The MD-11 was supposed to be a serious competor to the 777. Admittedly it beat the 777 to the market but could you imagine being an Airline in the early 90s and cross shopping the 767, 747-400, or 777 against the MD-11?
