Where is currently the place where Brits feel good value for money for a sunny holiday?

Turkey and Egypt used to be spoken about but I think other countries have now been discussed such as spain, mexico etc.
TheGoose995@reddit
Greek islands. The hospitality is amazing and they are so friendly. Only thing I’d say is some islands aren’t so cheap nowadays
Internal-Leadership3@reddit
They also (for reasons unknown) really seem to like us Brits - or are very very good at pretending.
I love the country. So chilled out, never seem to get shouted at by restaurant promoters etc.
bad_ed_ucation@reddit
This is going to sound really snobbish and it is a gross generalisation but the sort of person who goes on holiday to Antiparos or Samos or even Mykonos is very different from the sort of person who goes to Magaluf. There are, of course, exceptions (parts of Zakynthos, for instance). But you see my point.
btwright1987@reddit
Crete is amazing. It’s mine and my wife’s holiday destination of choice.
Going back in September, hopefully everything isn’t too expensive then.

Athens?
jamnut@reddit
Great for historical site seeing and some decent grub. Probably not great for a relaxing holiday as it's a major city.
Very dusty and run down, but I definitely don't regret going. If you do go, then lake vouliagmeni is good fun, and one of the best days we had was strolling around the big hill by our hotel. It had lots of hidden historical sites and wild tortoises. We even saw a hoopoe, which was amazing
TheGoose995@reddit
I’ve not been so can’t say really. I do find that generally hospitality & value etc is better in non-capital cities, but there’s tonnes of history there
BulkyAccident@reddit
It's a rough-and-ready city but decent for a couple of days and a good jumping off point for an island.
zippyzebra1@reddit
Algarve is pretty good. Cheap too
Sadie_UK@reddit
Looked out of curiosity where is 'cheap' to go to now on TUI, and the lowest holiday destinations seemed to be Bulgaria and Crete!
Tough_Path9129@reddit
going egypt this july, cheap af. Tunisia is also cheap. Spain is spenny specially if you are looking for all inclusive, but you can always go around and get food elsewhere.
Desperate-Drawer-572@reddit (OP)
Tunisia is a hole people say?
Old-Abbreviations845@reddit
My boss been there, he said he loved it but only inside the resort, he said that as soon as you walk out its like another reality
WhiteDiamondK@reddit
Even within the resort… if you’re going on holiday to Egypt or Tunisia there’s a good likelihood that you’ll have a day where you won’t want to be far from your toilet.
Good thing is that you can go all inclusive and come home LOSING weight.
Personally, couldn’t pay me to go on holiday to either country, or Cape Verde.
Ambitious_Youth8943@reddit
Tunisia, Morocco & Cape Verde are all really nice. Never had a bad experience at any of them
Old-Abbreviations845@reddit
Cape verde is lovely, i have only ever heard good things about it ( i know a lot of people that been there and said they would want to revisit again ) and its actually a location that I really want to visit specially as I am portuguese
Tunisia and egypt put me right off because I am a woman and I see all the scams that happen over there all the time
jamnut@reddit
Haha yeah I love a stroll about the local area, Tunisia (hamammet) was a total shit hole and STUNK
Tough_Path9129@reddit
when i went last year it was alright, i guess it depends on the time of the year
Optimal_Collection77@reddit
Yeah Tunisia isn't a nice place. I found that they were pretty horrible to women and my wife didn't want to go back
Tough_Path9129@reddit
i never got treated badly, i was actually pretty calm walking in the city
sub273@reddit
There’s a reason why Egypt is cheap in July.
It’s high summer in the desert.
Tough_Path9129@reddit
My partner wanted a hot summer holiday so i booked it. i just want to see the pyramids. Will probs be too hot, oh well
Joshposh70@reddit
Oh boy, you’re going to Cairo.. in the middle of the summer? Good luck.
ToiletDestroyer6000@reddit
Aww hun am devoed, holibobs in Spain are proper spenny for me and the munchkins, just gonna stay at home this year and live, laugh, love xox
Tough_Path9129@reddit
im sorry to hear that sweet. Honestly this holiday was booked last year, i defo dont have the money for holidays as i waqs made redundant. I defo want to go spain though, we will see what the future holds
jamnut@reddit
Aye 850 for an all inclusive 5 star 10 nighter in sharm el sheikh for me in a couple of weeks. Even had an upgrade on the room and a sea view. All via a travel agent too
Tunisia was about 650-700 for 9 nights all inclusive 4 star in may 2025
The less said about the cost of our Maldives holiday in October the better though
gprudhoe@reddit
We stayed in a 5 star hotel in Sharm a few years back.
5 stars there isn’t the same as 5 stars anywhere else - just a heads up. It’s still decent like, but not on the level of 5 stars elsewhere.
jamnut@reddit
Nah absolutely, all I need is cocktails on tap and a trough (buffet) to gorge myself on.
We're at the Hilton in Abu Dhabi for 3 nights before Maldives so I imagine that'd be slightly better
Minimum-Grapefruit-9@reddit
There’s a reason why holidays in the Middle East are discounted at the moment…
jamnut@reddit
All these prices were paid before the orange cunt decided he wanted to play armies.
Separate_Rise_8932@reddit
There's a reason they're so cheap as well.
Ambitious_Youth8943@reddit
Tunisia is nice, not much to do outside of your hotel in some areas but the hotels are nice for the money. Agadir in Morocco is lovely, hotels are nice and the town has loads of parks and public spaces and a nice promenade. Sunny Beach gets a bad rep but we were at the bottom of the strip and had a great time there. Cape Verde is amazing and can be quite cheap if you go there during the summer months where everywhere else is expensive as technically it is their off season.
Responsible-Ad-1086@reddit
Looking at the weather next week I would say my garden in West Sussex 😎☀️
theped26@reddit
I’ve always liked Tenerife
mostwanted777@reddit
In UK: Bournemouth Outside: Egypt. Hurghada or Sharm ElSheikh
Tough_Path9129@reddit
Bournemouth is ok, i prefer cornwall way better
Worth_Gap4226@reddit
Still pricey but IMO great value for money, Mexico.
Outside of school holidays, you can get a fortnight all inclusive at 5* for 1500-1700 a head. Some of the best resorts I have ever been to. Service is always as good as it gets (likely due to Americans and tipping). The first time I went (Puerto Vallarta) the resort was like a mini town. All inclusive coffee shop, ice cream shop, bakery, loads of activities and entertainment or even just quiet spots to chill out if that isn't your thing.
Tough_Path9129@reddit
one day i will book mexico, i want to go so badly
WelshBen@reddit
Turkey gives you great bang for your buck. Morocco and Bulgaria not too far behind.
Spadders87@reddit
Domincan Republic, i think, gets overlooked a lot, its definitely among the cheapest long hauls. Been a couple of times and theyre among the best holidays ive been on. Carribean so year round weather (except hurricane season of course, but even then its hot and sunny when its not torrential downpours), white sandy beaches, usually all inclusive with lots of restaurant options, Rum!, Locals are usually super friendly, good days out.
Just checked for summer holidays this year and you can get 2 weeks all inclusive for about £1600pp. Sure, you get the likes of Greece cheaper (about £1k) but the hotel probably isnt as luxurious, the AI options will be more limited and its not the carribean.
Ok_Promotion3591@reddit
i have a month or two off after graduating and I had been considering Costa Rica, but damn, Dominican Republic looks beautiful.
Antique_Location_514@reddit
i love Greece! there’s such a fantastic culture and vibes!!! plenty to do as well and the weather is amazing! all the locals are so lovely too!!
Desperate-Drawer-572@reddit (OP)
Athens?
Antique_Location_514@reddit
I haven’t been to Athens but I’ve been to Crete and Santorini and both were lovely holidays! I’ll probably plan on going back soon!
Desperate-Drawer-572@reddit (OP)
Whats to do there
Mobile-Stomach719@reddit
Santorini? Not much during the day time as it's chock full of cruisers all day in the picturesque bits. If you don't mind laying by the pool till they have all gone back offshore then you're good.....
detinUi@reddit
Id also recommend teneriffe, visit Europe's best water park. Also very cheap and belting weather and had a beach with black sand
detinUi@reddit
Zante is a shout too. We've been twice. Nice beach and you can rent a speed boat to take around the islands (no licence needed).
They say not to go over a certain speed limit but we belted it around when out of sight from the hiring places only to find out they have an app with tracking and average speed. Our average speed was double the "speed limit" and they didnt bat an eyelid haha
Antique_Location_514@reddit
depends where you go obviously but you have your general tourists attractions like water parks quad biking visiting olive farms.. the one thing i’d definitely recommend is scuba diving!!! apart from that you’ve got gorgeous beaches and walks… if you want a more “British” holiday i’d really recommend Stalis in Crete! It’s got british pubs but also has that Greek feeling to it! if you want something more mamma mia i’d recommend Pyrgos!
Administrative_City2@reddit
Morocco is pretty cheap & only 3 hours away but like everywhere else there are expensive all inclusive 5 star resorts. I found local pricing for food etc to be very reasonable.
Severus_1987@reddit
You can’t really go wrong with Greek islands. Plenty of choice in the Balearic Islands too which keeps costs down
4nn4s3@reddit
Seen a lot of people going to the balkans, can’t vouch tho as I haven’t been.
BeardedBaldMan@reddit
Croatia is now expensive.
Albania and Bosnia are good calls
AussieHxC@reddit
Croatia is far more expensive than it used to be, but it's a pretty awesome place to go
4nn4s3@reddit
A friend of mine always goes to Bulgaria and loves it
milneman@reddit
Georgia, Batumi specifically. Cheap food, beer, friendly people and great city alongside the black sea. Pretty warm year round, hot in the summer months
Fun-Lingonberry4676@reddit
Goa is very cheap when you get there.
Immorals1@reddit
Montenegro is great
abfgern_@reddit
Used to be Spain, then Greece, then Croatia, so I'd imagine next along the list is Montenegro & Albania. Or maybe Bulgaria
ExcellentCan2525@reddit
Crete, corfu, menorca, Cyprus
anxiousthroway85@reddit
The Canaries represent good value for us. We generally go at switch over season between the Scandinavians and the British.
vicbor65@reddit
Bulgaria is the best and the cheapest. Plenty of all-inclusive deals, mostly 100 pounds a day for a couple, not higher.
PsychologySpecific16@reddit
If you can get some cheao air china flights, Japan is hard to beat imo. Pick your season.
