"But that is throwing my vote away, and with the 15% poll threshold for debates, no one will even know about the gold candidate. I think I will just not vote."
Unfortunately that's the reality of our system. Third party candidates are not viable. If we want them to be we have to change how we vote, which means electing people...
They will never be viable as long we continue to say and believe they are not viable. Plain and simple truth. The first step is to remove public funding for partisan primaries. This help perpetuate the unviable 3rd party at taxpayer expense.
Right, ra ra third party and all. I totally agree with you that our current 2 party rule is awful and has caused lots of problems. Having more diverse representation and political positions would be great for the country.
The issue is that people have been saying exactly what you are for literal centuries and only once has it actually worked and that was a massive outlier.
The reality is that our system of elections makes third party candidates unviable. First past the post voting forces us into a two party system where the best a third party can do is play spoiler for the Republican or Democrat who's most ideology similar.
If you want I can dig up an old CGP Grey video that explains this.
I’m not from this sub, and you’re all free to call me out for basically astroturfing and ban me or whatever.
I just want say that if you’re genuinely upset about recent events:
-The war that sidestepped Congress and raised all our gas prices
-The removal of Massie for refusing to tow the GOP party lines
-The murder of Alex Pretti at the hands of an extrajudiciary task force that solely adheres to the will of the president and nothing else.
The vote Dem in the midterm. I’m not telling you to vote that way in 2028 or beyond or anything. All I’m saying is that if you disagreed with things I’ve listed above, this is the only election you’re going to get to fight it directly.
That’s your right. But I disagree. Enough opposition from voters will dissuade Republicans from bowing to Trump over every little whim he has.
It’s not just about taking away Congress from him. Stephen Miller himself says that Trump has Plenary Authority over the GOP, and that party has control over every branch of government.
Enough Republicans gaining the confidence to go against the grain would break his Plenary Authority and give power back to the other branches again.
Still not going to vote for people who will bomb kids with my tax dollars and you shouldn't either. Your perspective is pro status quo. You want the uniparty. I don't.
Those two things have nothing to do with each other. Voting for Dems or reps is a vote for interventionalism, a vote for cronyism, a vote for pedos, a vote for authoritarianism. Whatever domestic pet project you might be passionate about pale in comparison to the atrocities either side will commit. Don’t vote for evil, even if it’s the lesser.
I've been saying this, but im met with "bUt A tHiRd PaRtY cAnIdAtE wOn'T wIn, YoU'lL bE tHrOuGhInG yOuR vOtE" but like that's exactly why they never win is cause no one ever tries
LP is a joke. Very few of their candidates even try. Most can't be bothered to even set up a website when running for state-wide or federal office. The party itself focuses on ideological purity over electability or voter education.
I think there might be something to gain if libertarians vocally declare that we will not support any Trump-backed candidates in the midterms. I don't know what our assumed proportion of Republican votes is, but I'm sure it's significant, and we might get some notoriety for swinging some contests. Then in future elections maybe we will get something more than just the silk road guy. Massie was literally our star in the federal government.
He got so much shit over this, but if you ask the current sitting president the same question he’d probably go on a fifteen minute dementia fueled rant about how Aleppo is his favorite Italian dish.
Don't be discouraged by two party system folks. Look at UK which also has (had) similar system. But now both conservative and labour parties are losing to Reform party. Every vote matters
Reform party won the most seats of of any party in their local elections a week or two ago.
Reform won only a few seats in the last parliamentary election a year or so ago, as they split the vote with Conservatives (Tories). Thats how Labour won a majority of seats. Reform is expected to do much better in the next parliamentary election.
I think the reason why it's such a burn vote is that voters that are the average citizen are very politically uneducated, and sometimes it feels like both parties keep it that way on purpose
It tells the other parties were they xan pick up votes over lp issues, if lp gets 3% which is usually within the margin for victory, the smarter members of the strategists will realize that there is some room to pick up votes by being less awful or doing some good. Unfortunately for trump and his movement hes pretty much totally burned any support he could get and its probably going to result in dem victories.
Liberals don’t feel represented by democrats. And conservatives don’t feel represented by republicans. It’s pretty clear voting for the same two parties gets us nowhere, the libertarian party needs to step up and take advantage of it.
And it would be even better if another party (does the Green Party still exist) stepped up to help siphon votes away from the big two.

Yes, let's replace the authoritarians in power with the authoritarians who were just in power. That will fix things... GTFO
Personel101@reddit
I genuinely, earnestly believe there is not a single Democrat that you could elect this year that would be bigger government than Trump.
And if a Republican wins in your district, you are only giving him more power.
kkdawg22@reddit
I genuinely, earnestly believe that both parties are in an arms race to see who can be more authoritarian and they both keep succeeding.
I won’t vote for pro war, corporate captured politicians regardless of their affiliation.
Personel101@reddit

You can’t call it a uniparty, when you know, deep down, that Massie would still be in office today if Trump was not in charge.

Personel101@reddit
They have everything to do with each other. If there were more Massies in the GOP, then they would be the anti-authoritarian party.
Trump is the reason Massie is gone. You know this is true.
If your choice is to not vote against him, you are voting for less Massies and more Trumps.
kkdawg22@reddit
OK, and you're voting for more hillarys and less Bernies. What is your point?
Personel101@reddit
No. These are the midterms. These have no impact on the executive branch besides deciding how much power it has for the next 2 years.
You can decide if Trump has all the power or less.
kkdawg22@reddit
You're being pedantic instead of hearing what I'm saying.
Personel101@reddit
I’m not. Every Democrat besides maybe Fetterman wants Trump’s impeachment.
It doesn’t matter if they are a Hillary or a Bernie. They all want him lame ducked.
