Germany's official spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry made a tweet in the Arabic language to talk about German-Turkish relations. (The image has been translated in English but you can see the original languages on top). Thoughts?

Why in Arabic? Even Ottoman Turks barely underatood it
_lavoisier_@reddit
barely? the only time everyday ottoman turks used arabic when they were reciting arabic prayer without knowing the meaning of single word. this is still true today.
Ill_Chicken550@reddit
The German Foreign Minister spent way too much time on r/Balkans_irl

they don't speak Arabic in Turkey ? What's next ? They don't ride magic carpets and camels on their way to work ?
letruxx@reddit
Do you know how expensive the carpets are? Let alone running cost would be around 2lt olive oil per 1 km.
Hertzian_Dipole1@reddit
We do ride camels all the time. If you want to have a holiday photo, we can arrange one only for 20€
RegionSignificant977@reddit
There were at leas 1500 camels in Bulgaria a century ago.
iboreddd@reddit
I recently have watched Young Sherlock. The very first scene they showed about Istanbul was a god damn camel

All her tweets are in Arabic. It is not about Turkey. She has tweets about Israel or Ukraine and they are all Arabic.
kerotta@reddit
themaelstorm@reddit
Check her account: "The official account of the spokesperson for the German Foreign Office in the Middle East and North Africa region. " ALL her tweets are in Arabic.
greenest_alien@reddit
I love it how this correct explanation is left buried beneath all the cheap X outrage and of course the introductory explanation on what to think in starting post.
yamankara@reddit
I love how the fact that this 'correct' explanation is BS because she is literally addressing the Turkish minister in the said post is also buried beneath all the "if the turks are upset something must be right" comments.
greenest_alien@reddit
The most plausible explanation is not that she had literal talks with literal Turkish minister and failed to notice he doesn't speak Arabic.
yamankara@reddit
no chance she doesn't know TR speaks Turkish. Probably neglect by her and incompetence by her team.
ohgoditsdoddy@reddit
The account is an account that communicates in Arabic. Unless there is a single past instance of them posting in another language depending on the subject matter or the parties involved, it is difficult to call this neglect or incompetence or a “bullshit explanation.”
Kooky_Appeal_6554@reddit
I don't understand—why in Arabic? Turks speak Turkish, after all, and use the Latin alphabet.
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit

floare_salbatica@reddit
Yeah, sure, you're always the victim. Have a look at this guy who is from Dobrogea and says that his family moved there from Ada Kaleh. He isn't able to speak Romanian. He also writes shit about Romania and defends Turkey. Lately he claimed that Romanianas from Dobrogea are dark skinned and in another reply in the same thread posted a link of some very blonde (partially) Turkish women. Let's be honest: you almost never integrate. And then you wonder where the animosity comes from.
greenest_alien@reddit
It's a Muslim language, potato tomato
Downtown-Figure6434@reddit
Okey every “Christian country” speaks German from now on
bender__futurama@reddit
Italian? Latin? Or Russian, it is Slavic language. Potato tomato.
Downtown-Figure6434@reddit
Bro that phrase is tomayto tomahto at best in writing. It's supposed to be verbal. Ironically you are actually saying they are different things while trying to say they are the same thing
bender__futurama@reddit
You do understand that I am copying our Czech colleague? And that my comment should be sarcastic. ☺️

themaelstorm@reddit
Because apparently she's the spokesperson for the German Foreign Office in the Middle East and North Africa region and ALL of her tweets are in Arabic.
Yavannia@reddit
Still not a good excuse to be honest why use a language that has nothing to do either with Germany or Turkey for a post about them?

of course.

greenest_alien@reddit
You literally have the correct answer two posts up above you.
Dexterus@reddit
So she's just stupid?
greenest_alien@reddit
She's communicating with Arab audience, so she uses Arab language in all her posts.
Dexterus@reddit
I would say awesome she communicates with Arab audience in Arabic but isn't that the Turkish flag? isn't she addressing it to a Turkish official?
greenest_alien@reddit
She is, so maybe that is a mistake yeah.
NecessaryDisaster498@reddit
Either the person is an utter moron
or
This is just alt-right grifting, generalizing turks as arabs and pretending all "muslim" to be the same with aims to provoce turks.
No in between.
themaelstorm@reddit
No, she posts all in Arabic, the account is "The official account of the spokesperson for the German Foreign Office in the Middle East and North Africa region. "
NinerKNO@reddit
I speak a few different languages. The first thing I do when communicating with a person is to speak a common language. I would not expect to get a reply from a German if I spoke Swahili (which I don't know anyway).
So when speaking to a Turkish audience as she is doing, a post in German, English, or Turkish would be the basic expectation. She most likley know at least German and English. So her being spokesperson for MIddle east is irrelevant.
NecessaryDisaster498@reddit
Yes. Hence she is doing an alt-right grift or she is just a moron.
smeidkrp@reddit
Yeah how does this make sense to you? We should only use Russian in posts about European countries then
Downtown-Figure6434@reddit
If she has role in international relations, she should show the differences while addressing different nations. It’s not an excuse
Kooky_Appeal_6554@reddit
This is how average Americans portray it; to them, all Muslims are synonymous with the Middle East and speak Arabic.
TheHessian64@reddit
Just checked her account. She's the spokesperson for the MENA Region and is posting tweets in Arabic regardless of the topic. So this is probably not a mistake.

bruhmanbruuh@reddit
Mostly, yes.
Sure there are Yazidis, Jews,Greeks, Armenians, Turks , Assyrians etc etc, yet the majority are Arabs.
tompa_zg@reddit
Why not use German? This is braindead.
Sweet_Bridge_3001@reddit
Nothingburger.
The person in question posts everything in Arabic, not just this tweet about Turkey.
We Turks have a common fear of being grouped with Arabs, even a mention of Turks and Arabs in the same sentence will get you a bunch of angry comments saying ''TURKS ARE NOT ARABS!!!'', its getting really annoying.
Kooky_Appeal_6554@reddit
Which Turkic peoples refer to themselves as Arabs? Central Asians? Certainly not. Azerbaijanis? Not them either. Well, there are Arabs living in Turkey—primarily in Iskenderun, Hatay, and so on. Some of them speak both Turkish and Arabic. (By this, I do not mean Syrian refugees, but rather long-established local families.)
Random_Name_2k26@reddit
All Christians speak Latin right?
LibertyChecked28@reddit
Bro still lives in 1927
Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
1-) In 1927, it was Turkish written in Arabic Alphabet, like Georgian written in Cyrillic alphabet.
2-) H*tler and his regime considered Turkey to be honorary Aryan and Europeans. That's why the intellectual neo-n*zis in Europe tend to see Turks as "Lesser Europeans" and bully us slightly less than average racist europeans.
pitogyros@reddit
N*zis opinion on turks was not fixed ( obviously since their ideology was based on pseudoscience )
Generally Turks were seen as Central Asian, Mongolic, Mediterranean, Alpine by some
Central Asian by others
Mediterranean mixture by some others.
But as you correctly mentioned they were not treated as bad as Slavs , Jews , Romani people.
Kooky_Appeal_6554@reddit
Exactly—on the sunken island of Ada Kaleh in Romania, the Arabic script persisted for a longer time; even in the 1930s, they were still using the Arabic script. The Latin script was adopted from the Romanian alphabet. Look:
Naive-Independent-86@reddit
what the fuck are you talking about?
BagComprehensive79@reddit
Even then he is still wrong because they were still using same Turkish language not Arabic. Just different alphabet. He is wrong even about alphabet because they were using mixture of Arabic and Farsi alphabet, not Arabic alphabet directly.
Looks like there is not a single thing he did correctly.
Satyriasis457@reddit

Empty-Pace-4228@reddit
Personally, even though I define myself as an Asian migrant as a part of the Turkish diaspora, I believe that, if Turkey had a normal form of government with a normal political scene, Turkey would have contributed a lot to EU.
It is definitely good for the enemies of the EU that these people are in charge of the EU.
evoscheibe@reddit
We already contributing to eu a lot. We play the border post role between middle east and europe so those racist crackers dont have to see brown skinned people.

rubber_moon@reddit
You'd be surprised how many people think Arabic is spoken widely in Turkey
Kooky_Appeal_6554@reddit
This is how average Americans portray it; to them, all Muslims are synonymous with the Middle East and speak Arabic. Many are astonished to learn that people in Central Asia—particularly in Kazakhstan (known in the U.S. thanks to *Borat*)—are a Turkic people who are culturally Muslim, not Arabs. The same applies to Albanian, Slavic, and Gypsy Muslims living in Europe.
CmdrJemison@reddit
There is only English language in that picture.
