In Sailor Moon, Uranus and Neptune are canonically lesbian. The Americans decided to retcon them as cousins, but kept the romantic dialogues. Maybe it was a hit in Utah or Alabama, god knows.
I'm a firm believer that most people like japanese dub purely out of being used to it and not speaking the language, my problem with the dubs of languages I speak for anime is that it's cringe, the way they talk, intonation, forced sounds and grunts don't translate, like have you been to a gym? That's not how people sound like when pushing themselves. Imagine if they just talked like people instead
I usually watch the dub unless I find an explicit reason not to. For example, I watched JJBA subbed so I could hear the actual names of the Stands, but I'm watching JJK dubbed
he's correct and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. then again I don't watch anime anymore because the intonation whether it's in JP or EN is cringe beyond measure.
The good German dubs are on another level. The synchro studios have extremely talented script writers that adds often additional jokes/etc and whacky localizations. Don't know how eng dub is, but for example if they talk about a japanese celebrity they try to change them in the script to a German/international one.

anon is straight up objectively wrong. german sub is beyond bad for most series
Thendrail@reddit
German dubs are usually quite fine, imho. 'murican dubbing however...

The shit they used to censor back in the day was horrible though.
Couldn't even let someone be killed, so they just got "defeated".
Even Naruto couldn't take a shit, he just hid in the toilet because of cramps.
Fuck german dubs (with a few exceptions).

RTL2 is to blame for that. After the school shooting in Erfurt it went downhill, before that there was very little censoring.
NoPointsForSecond@reddit
Sailor moon was uncensored on RTL2 while it aired. Can't remember what "gender" Sailor Saturn and Uranus were though...
TheMRC@reddit
Dragon Ball Z was also uncensored up to a certain point, but after a while they even cut whole episodes for seemingly being too brutal for kids.

i used to watch dragonball in german when i was a kid. i genuinely cringe thinking about it
MothWaifu1711@reddit
Basic bitch I know but the Chainsaw Man english dub is objectively better than the original sub because the dialogue isn’t completely janked up.
Only-Emphasis-6088@reddit
like genuinely
Shootemout@reddit
in a way he's not wrong, DBZ the subs for goku he does NOT sound like he should at all. one of the few instances where the dub is objectively better

German dubs are bad.
