Is a 2013 328i a good car in terms of its potential with mods combined with how it comes stock?

I recently got into an accident where my car was totaled and I want to get a car that can be bought on the cheaper side, but can be modded to perform well. I'm looking at used cars (10k to spend which ik isn't much, but it's what insurance said I get) and found a 2013 328i with 100k miles on it for around 8 thousand and now I'm wondering if that is a good move or if there's another model I could try and find that's better or if I should be going for an entirely different car/brand in the first place.

They're a decent car, but performance mods are either expensive or ineffective on them. They're naturally aspirated, so theres very little performance to gain unless you get a supercharger kit, which are fairly expensive.

In this gen the 328i was a turbo 4 cyl. I think theres flash tunes for them, but these arent my area of expertise

Get a n52 328i if you want a cheaper to own bmw. Can’t really mod them much. You can get maybe 260hp out of them though. I could never in good conscience recommended a n20

alright, so obviously that was a bad idea to even throw out there, but what should I look for instead?

Don't even consider it unless you have thousands of dollars to pay for the maintenance/repairs it will very likely need.
