Ryzen 5 5600 or ryzen 7 5800x for my build

Currently i can get a 5800x \~$30 cheaper than a 5600 but i saw that a 5800x gets quite hot and idk guys i get anxious sometimes, will the 5800x fry itself after 2 years? This is my first build btw im excited
ChronicPottymouth@reddit
Worst case you can enable 65watt eco mode in the bios and still have a better chip with the 5800x. That said, getting a 5800x cheaper than a 5600 is a no-brainer, and they're not THAT difficult to cool (unless you're using a small form factor itx case, but eco mode solves that issue too).
iceseayoupee@reddit
if you worry about getting hot just undervolt it, anyhow you can also get a high perf cooler like a thermalright PA 120
Hrmerder@reddit
Eh.. If it was a 5600x vs 5800x I would say the 5600X is good enough for most, but 5600? Nah, go for the 5800X.
tronatula3@reddit
5600 is more than enough for gaming. Most games do not ask a lot from the CPU
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
But if you can get more cores, and higher clocks, for less $ ..... Why not?
Old_Information_8654@reddit
The 5800x will be fine man just look at the TDP of the processor and get a good air cooler for it if your worried, the thermal right peerless assassin is a great cooler in my opinion and it can even cool most AM5 cpus if you upgrade platforms in the future
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
All AM5 CPU's* it will cool all AM5 CPU's. It's as good as a D15 or a 240 AIO.
Now, I wouldn't trust it in a 24 hour stress test on a 9950X, but, in normal usage it's great
Blue-150@reddit
A 5800x can be lowered to 65w, making it closer to a 5700x. Simple to do and has room for oc, makes no sense to buy slower CPU. I have 5800xt which was same price as 5700x and I added a thermal right phantom cooler. No problems, even used the terrible stock amd cooler for awhile
thenord321@reddit
When people say a processor runs hot, they usually mean the default cooling fan+heat sink is not enough. So buy a big air cooler or water cooler instead.
If you're a new builder, check your motherboard model for the supported processors, don't just assume am4 = 5800 compatible.
And then check for sizing compatibility for air coolers and your RAM position and height.
Gloomy_Kitchen393@reddit
a $20 peerless assassin and pbo-15 and I doubt temps will be a issue
VarmintTheCritter@reddit
This is the way. I managed my 5800X on stock clocks with a Hyper 212 for years, then found I could get a stable extra 300MHz all-core with a Deepcool AK. A Thermalright Peerless Assassin might have done it for cheaper.
Neuromancer911@reddit
What motherboard to you have? The 5800x needs VRM cooling
qef15@reddit
The 5800x will get hotter yes, that's by design and pretty normal because to be better in performance, they use more power and dissipate more heat.
But just get a proper air cooler and you're set. The Thermalright Peerless Assasin or the Phantom Spirit cool it without any issue at all.
Tlentic@reddit
Take the better CPU and with the $30 you saved buy a Phantom Spirit or a Peerless Assassin air cooler
Lekanswanson@reddit
I have a 5800x and I had this worry too but its fine, its designed to run hot.
katzengoldgott@reddit
My 5800X hasn’t been having temperature issues in the past 5 years, so no.
Just get a Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit and you’ll be good. I’d take the 5800X, especially for $30 less, over a 5600.
OkSystem455@reddit
Undervolt the 5800X...
SunnyBigBear@reddit
Any GPUs can get hot after long extensive use
Mogura56@reddit
Just get a nice cooler and as long as it's within safe operating range (I believe below \~90C for the 5800X) then you won't experience any throttling. Honestly it shouldn't be something you need to worry about, and the QoL of doing things that aren't just gaming will be a good but potentially subtle improvement from the 5600.
Legin14@reddit
Go for the 5700x then. Had the same couple tears back
UFCLulu@reddit
Wouldn’t you be able to underclock/undervolt and not just save $30 but have a better CPU?
FakeJoestar@reddit
I slapped a Phantom Spirit 120 SE on my 5800x and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it touch 70c with -20 PBO undervolt. This is in my room which gets somewhat toasty from the PC without AC running.
nesnalica@reddit
they get hot yes
but they dont get "that fucking hot"
this issue is only with the 13 and 14th generation Intel CPUs like the i9 14900K which has this valid concern.
the Ryzen 5 5600 and ryzen 7 5800X are both fine
just buy a CPU cooler that meets their demands to go along with it.
DZCreeper@reddit
5800X has a 142 watt power limit spread across the IO die and 8 cores. 5600 is only 88 watts across IO die + 6 cores.
That just means the 5800X has higher thermal density. If you want full performance a better cooler is needed.
If you limit the 5800X to an equal wattage it will beat the 5600 due to higher boost clock and more cores.
ProtonPi314@reddit
I have a 5800x.... yes it heats up my room a bit . So have a fan around!
But no it won't burn out ( welll it might of its defective) . I've had mine for 7 years and it's still going strong. 0 issues.
Ok_Fan_1637@reddit
5900x here, use thermalright phantom spirit 120 SE, pbo or undervolt, temp never go over 81C while gaming or render.
Damolitioneed@reddit
They get hot by design. It won't just die without having a fault and installed properly.
