This coolcola is manufactured by the same factory that used to produce coca-cola before the war. Plenty of coca-cola made in Afghanistan if you want to pay a little bit more for the same drink, but I can't see why would you do that unless you are a brand-licking soymaxxer
Artemas_16@reddit
Not exactly, Cool Cola line up is made on factory that was russian on to begin with, afaik the kvass one. Coca-Cola factory now makes Добрый, Pepsi factory makes Evervess.
Artemas_16@reddit
Factories literally stayed there, just under different supervision. So Coca-Cola factory now sells "Coca-Cola", Pepsi one sells "Pepsi", and so on.
minimalniemand@reddit
Let’s be real here for a second
Nothing is more street than Sprite
Nothing more fancy than Sprite
jonasnee@reddit
I mean, this is fairly normal? I can get multiple local alternatives to those 3 drinks as well.
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
It is a thing, besides having home-made alternatives (sometimes from the same factories, dunno how it works with beverages), they also have the brand name stuff imported through grey “parallel import”
Synthetic_Nyaa@reddit (OP)
Thats how they still get things from China and other places
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
Nah, things from China are just imported, nothing shady about it. China didn’t stop trading with Russia.
rick_astley66@reddit
China imports stuff to Russia from third countries that have banned those things to be traded with Russia.
Sbotkin@reddit
That's mostly done via Kazakhstan
geekydad84@reddit
Smuggling in finnish cheese was a thing
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
That feels more like 2014 era with “reverse sanctions” from Russia with people literally smuggling shit for some time, not figuratively.
They still had some parallel import at that time, but trying to evade Russian laws, not foreign ones. It stayed in history in the Belarusian shrimps meme.
C_umputer@reddit
Russians even make comedy sketches about it, like guy trading his wedding ring for a BigMac.

А мне американские бургеры дороже родины
Due-Boss-4354@reddit
Look at that GIRTH too! Only for real russians.
fretSFW@reddit
well they are 100% same as before, before 2022 we had factories of cocacola so its just the names that changed, taste is the same
Triple96@reddit
Street is killing me
MarriedToHimeko@reddit
Hey mate, you cool for some cola or do you fancy street?
Opposite_Bat6184@reddit
Btw CoolCola zero is great, I drink it almost exclusively, one of the best ones out here. But these names are god awful lmao
MarriedToHimeko@reddit
I liked everweiss more. Or was it everwest? I don't remember. Been a while.
Opposite_Bat6184@reddit
Evervess, yep. It's basically a Pepsi clone, original zero and cherry zero are great too, but a bit rarer
ethanlan@reddit
Everess is ginger ale? Or am I missing something
Opposite_Bat6184@reddit
It's used to be Schweppes clone before 2022, so it had such a flavor
MarriedToHimeko@reddit
Pepsi?? I do not like bepiss one bit. But evervess got a pass because of it's cool design and naming
Opposite_Bat6184@reddit
It can be different a bit, taste wise. But it's basically bepis, idunno bro
eatingthosebeans@reddit
Wait... They didn't have homegrown soda brands before?
Da Fuq?
That's literally something, I'd expect of pretty much any non third world country.
Hell, each supermarket chain here has their own brand of these.
TUBBEW2@reddit
It was once like this here this few years 2 i think, a smaller soda version called pop cola was finally in the market and now its a first choice for some second for most, Before that coca cola and such had no real contenders.
MagiStarIL@reddit
There are many soda brands, but almost none of them made cola before 2022
Chai_Enjoyer@reddit
Or baikal. Fucking love baikal, it's a shame it got monopolized by Chernogolovka
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
What? They’ve destroyed baikal? Or is it as good, but from another brand?
It was one of the best sodas I’ve ever tried.
Chai_Enjoyer@reddit
Not exactly destroyed, but it's not as great as it used to be. Still nice soda
ldontcares@reddit
Yeah, pre-2022 cola other than pepsi and coke, was dogshit. Frankly, there was no demand for it, the 2 brands was enough. Since 2022 factories learned to make cola that tastes just as nice and even cheaper, and now we have dozens of various cola brands AS WELL as grey imported pepsi and coke
Maniactver@reddit
Most of the soda brands belonged to big corporations like Nestle.
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
Or course they did, it is more about them copying stuff 1 to 1. Their first own homegrown brands were there since the Union days.
Synthetic_Nyaa@reddit (OP)
I mean, in My country we bottle Coca-Cola and other brands Locally.
There are a couple of local brands on My country.
vverbov_22@reddit
I live in Russia and that's like not a new thing. We have tons of alternatives and also the same pepsi and cola with a different name
mcsquirley@reddit
when is Peak Western Civilization … ?
lucricius@reddit
Doesn't each supermarket chain have their alternatives anyways? Which are 5* times cheaper, Europe's Lidl, Carrefour, Delhaize Albert Hijn.. etc have their alternatives, so why is this making news?
NCR_Trooper_2281@reddit
Fake and gay, we still grt the original ones either by parallel import or the ones that are legally made in Belarus under license from Coca Cola/Pepsi
Valois7@reddit
smuggling Finnish cheese into Russia is also a big business
derpkoikoi@reddit
Imagine getting jailed and sent to the frontlines of Ukraine over smuggling Fanta. At night, big burly russian men corner you at dinner and command you in thick accents to “get on de table and do your funny ting, puny boi.”They laugh boisterously as you comply and sheepishly start singing “D-don’t you wanna Fanta, don’t you wanna Fanta”
Dummk0pv@reddit
They make him sing Fantasy Star Online
ldontcares@reddit
Fake and gay. Very gay in fact.
Simbooptendo@reddit
Gake and fay
MonkeyPanls@reddit
Funny you should mention Fanta: Fanta was started by the German division of Coca Cola when WW2 made it impossible for them to do business with the home office in Atlanta.
Now imagine in 80 years that CoolCola is doing kitchy ads.
Hugar34@reddit
dontcha_wanna_fanta@reddit
You rang?
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
Russians won’t jail anyone for that, they don’t care, their laws are not broken. “You’ve stopped selling cola/iPhones to us? Stop selling them to everyone else, or we are going to parallel import them” is their position.
Hau65@reddit
Hanna_Bjorn@reddit
I gotta tell you, when Coca-Cola disappeared for a brief period we got TONS of those clones, not just Cool Cola.
But then Coca-Cola just rebranded like every other major company and it's back on the shelves lol.
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
Was it Coca Cola as an entity rebranding or someone else starting making their own “Koka Cola” using the same factories after they left?
MonkeyPanls@reddit
"Krododil Kola. So good your skin will fall off!”
2rair@reddit
Yes the factory was seized and they continued production under a new company name, which was usually owned by the government/oligarch. Look at McDonald which is now вкусно и точка. They sell the exact same products just with modified branding.
PotemkinSuplex@reddit
I think you had a typo there, I’m pretty sure the official name after rebranding was “вкус очка“
Speaking seriously, if ever visit again I really want to bring legit McDonald’s burgers with me from Narva or something in order to do a blind testing comparison with a pair of Russian aboriginal St. Petersburg dwellers I know. Should be fun.
Jazzlike-Dig-1758@reddit
I had already seen some blind tests of this type, and what they said was that the Russian McDonald's, under a different name, maintained the same recipes and procedures, but instead of having the product imported directly from the parent company to maintain extremely uniform quality, they simply use ingredients from Russia itself. It's become a much fresher McDonald's.
spitgobfalcon@reddit
Idk how McDonald's in Russia did it before, but that sounds pretty standard. German McDonald's beef is beef from Germany, and I'm pretty sure that they do not import lettuce and onions from the US either. Coca-cola is also made in Germany under license.

Jonekone1@reddit
When the first sanctions hit Russia there was huge smuggling busines to bring cheese and dish washer from Finland at least.
616659@reddit
Ah yes I enjoyed my bottle of STREET
SturmGizmo@reddit
I'm enjoying watching all the knock off brands emerge from the sanctions.
tvtowers@reddit
Fanta originated in Nazi Germany when the bottling plants couldn't get the syrup from the US anymore. This tracks.
