How hard is it to learn ECM tuning?

I've been thinking about buying an MPVI4, but I'd like to know a bit more about what I'm getting myself into first. I want to get into building racecars and whatnot someday, and this seems like it would be a good skill to learn. Even if I just feel like doing something simple, like changing tire sizes, I think it could be worthwhile to learn, but I kind of wanted to hear some input from other people on this topic. For those of you who have tuned cars before, how hard was it to learn, and how long did it take to get good at it? Did you save money? Is it something you find yourself using to help people out with any frequency? Is HP Tuners the best option, or is there something else I should take a look at? Thanks!

It's not all that hard but there is a lot of information to be familiar with. You just need to know how to use the tools to make correct adjustments. Don't go messing with tables you don't know anything about. Don't start on forced induction cars. Use whatever software relates to the car you will be tuning. When you're familiar with one, they all kinda translate somewhat as its mainly learning new GUI. The basics are the same.
Hell no. I am not a professional tuner and I don't want to take responsibility for it.

I just bought a mpvi4 and am looking into getting into tuning factory ecus as well. I think hptuners is best platform for people who want to tune more than one of their vehicles because of the licensing system. something like an SCT tuner is only usable on a single vehicle. hptuners lets you buy credits that allow you to use the tuner on anything without having to revert it back to stock.
I built a full diy efi setup on a small block ford with a megasquirt, but comparing that to a modern ecu is night and day. There is always the threat of making the wrong change and blowing up your engine though. some platforms are extremely sensitive and not knowing what you are doing can make things go south quickly.
there is lots of good videos and courses online for learning.
