From Las Vegas to the Arctic Sea. Today is day 19 and I am not even halfway there yet.

Nineteen days ago I left Las Vegas with my Jeep, my dog Maggie, and a rough plan to make it all the way to the Arctic Ocean mostly camping along the way.
So far I’ve crossed deserts, forests, mountain passes, ferries, endless logging roads, and more beautiful campsites than I can count. Vancouver Island alone slowed me down badly in the best possible way. Every time I think I’m making progress north, I end up finding another lake, another forest road, or another hidden spot worth staying an extra night for.
I’m traveling in an AEV Gladiator with an AluCab camper setup, mostly relying on dispersed camping, cooking outdoors, and trying to avoid highways whenever possible. Some days are freezing and wet, some are perfect, and some roads simply end at locked gates after hours of driving. That’s part of the fun.
The goal is still the Arctic Sea, probably via Tuktoyaktuk if weather and roads cooperate, but honestly the journey itself is becoming the real reward.
One thing I’ve learned so far: if you try to rush a trip like this, you completely miss the point of overlanding.

Very cool setup. Glad I stumbled across your post. Now sub’s on YouTube
Mazada33@reddit
How much trouble do you have finding someplace to stop and sleep safely? I just built a teardrop and I wanna do exactly what you're doing this summer.
mrchristopher2@reddit
Nice to see an AEV being used the way it’s supposed to be! Also I’m surprised you still have the windshield top rocker. I have already put 2 windshields in mine. I gave up replacing the decal once I realized it appeared I was going to need a windshield once a year. Gorilla Glass does not hold up to rocks very well in my experience.

Do you have a YouTube channel? I'd love to follow your adventure. Happy travels!
theloneoverlanders@reddit (OP)
Just Instagram and facebook. YouTube takes too much time for my liking. However from time to time I upload videos to it in Spanish only.

I think the administrators don’t like when we share channels an all that. One of my post was removed because of it.
Borske@reddit
Are you sharing video anywhere?
theloneoverlanders@reddit (OP)
Just Instagram and Facebook and here in this forum

Enjoy BC! I went up till Hyder, AK last year and had a blast. lmk if you need any recommendations for spots to check out by that area.
theloneoverlanders@reddit (OP)
On my way to Hyder now. I should be there in a couple of days
Bhangpeeni@reddit
Not sure what current conditions are, but Telkwa pass was great, microwave cabin (explorer further up), nisgaa lava beds. All cool spots. Make sure to explore by the glacier theres a few trails nearby that lead to nice camping spots.
theloneoverlanders@reddit (OP)
Thanks. Looking into these one that you mentioned now.

I need this kinda money
da-gins@reddit
OP can you share rig costs, expected trip costs? What do you do for a living?
moorecode1077@reddit
I'm curious to. It's a pretty sweet rig for sure and being able to take that much time off work is a dream for me lol
DepartmentNatural@reddit
When you plan to get to Dawson city? I'm making the trip up to tuk in a few weeks, heading over from AK. Looking for someone to caravan with
theloneoverlanders@reddit (OP)
I am debating is going to Tuk before getting to Alaskaor going to Alaska first and leave Tuk for the end of the trip.
DepartmentNatural@reddit
I camp for a few weeks every summer on the haul road, just want change of scenery. If you do the haul road plan for more time then you expect. It's taken almost 6 hours, one year, to go from fairbanks to the Yukon river camp just wit road construction, tourist driving like idiots and horrible road conditions
ssaskciknivek@reddit
San Josef Bay is worth the extra day before you take the ferry out of Port Hardy.
Happy trails.

Yes! The journey itself is what matters. Perfect or not, at least it was truly experienced.

Naive_Adeptness6895@reddit
Depends.
mltedesco@reddit
Curious why you chose to go up island instead of mainland BC?
theloneoverlanders@reddit (OP)
The inside passage was in my bucket list for a very longtime
the_other_skier@reddit
It’s a good way to save time and money, looks amazing too! Make sure to stop off at Little Huson caves and do the Woss FSR on your way north out of Campbell River, Ideal Cafe is also a good breakfast spot on the way out of CR
