not sure if this is the exact sub Reddit to post in. I'm looking to do a frame off restoration of my 1957 GMC 100 pickup. I don't know where to start. I've never had or built a project before. possibly someone here could help? I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the HYBRID Vortec 5.3 L (4L60E trans) to drop into it. here are a couple pictures. I have more videos and other things available as well if needed just looking for some direction and possibly somebody to do the work in DFW area.

As a guy with 2 57 short beds and 1 55 long bed yes frame swap it. Do not motor swap it if your frame is good then sell it to someone who needs it. The wheel bearings are hard to deal with and the frame requires altering in a massive way jut to change the motor. I’ve been working for a while with my dad to put a 307 in the 55 so we can drive it to texas and give it to my little brother.

E-z chassis swaps makes a kit to swap a 1955-1959 truck to a 2000-2006 Tahoe frame.

Think the other way around. You want to put this old truck body onto the Silverado frame with its engine. See if the wheelbase is the same length. If it’s not, you just need to lengthen or shorten the Silverado frame the right amount and get a new driveshaft.

It would be work, but this is the way.

It’s kinda the same amount of work either way I think. If you keep the old frame, it’s going to need a ton of work to make it safe on the street again. New everything….gas tank, fuel and brake lines, wiring, body mounts. I guess a body swap is a bigger undertaking though

Oh lawd. My first car was supposed to be a 1956 GMC 100. It was my dad's but when I became of age, he informed me that his parents sold it to bring him booze from California (it was on their property in Southern California).
They hit me in the feels something fierce. Good luck on your quest!
