Best Value GPU for ~$600 ($700 MAX) for 1440p Gaming

So I have been looking to purchase a new GPU to upgrade from a 3060 12gb. But there are so many options and I genuinely don't know what to choose. Also I'm kinda confused on whether 16gb of vram is really that important or if I can just settle for 12gb. Possible options so far: 4070 super, 5060ti, 9060xt, 9070, and possibly a base 5070. Also I have a ryzen 5 5600 and I probably won't upgrade any time soon after this (over 5 years), if that changes anything.
Dizzy335@reddit
RX 7900 GRE or RTX 4070 Super are both sitting in that range and absolutely stomp 1440p. the 7900 GRE especially is underrated -- rasterization performance per dollar is insane for the price. only caveat is if you do a lot of ray tracing heavy titles, nvidia pulls ahead there. what games are you mainly targeting at 1440p?
Aggravating_Draw6802@reddit (OP)
Most likely will be playing games like Forza Horizon 6, planning on getting cyberpunk, Fortnite, rocket league, marvel rivals. Stuff like that, but I want to get more AAA games

9070XT is a beast
Inconspicuous_Shart@reddit
If you're ok without games like fortnight and COD that require anticheat at kernel level, throw Microsoft windows in the trash and go full Linux distro with a 9070xt. Gigabyte and Asus have very recently had sales for around $650, you could likely find a used one on marketplace for $600.
Things to know before hand: get a mobo with an Intel wifi card if you're not hardwired and pair your GPU with a 7800x3d or 9800x3d.
Hexxenyaa@reddit
Ive been super happy with my 5070
Aggravating_Draw6802@reddit (OP)
Do you run 1440p? If so how are the frames for different types of games?
Bonbonfrosch@reddit
I just built a PC with a 9070xt and playing satisfactory (at max settings) capped at 100 fps and Im around 60% GPU
hydrovids@reddit
My 5070 plays satisfactory at max settings and I never drop below 100 and my fps isn’t capped. What are you doing wrong?
Bonbonfrosch@reddit
Ive capped my fps. So no drops below 100 ever
Hexxenyaa@reddit
Pretty decent. Ive been rocking greyzone warfare quite a bit and with everything maxed im usually arpund 160-170fps at 1440

For pure 1440p value right now, the 4070 Super and 9070 are probably the strongest overall picks in that range.
If you keep GPUs for 4–5 years, I’d lean toward 16GB VRAM if possible because newer games are already starting to push past 12GB at higher settings.
Ryan32501@reddit
Definitely not a 4070 super. A 9070 is 40% faster, why get a 4070 super?
beirch@reddit
It would have taken you literally five seconds to fact check yourself: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-4070-super.c4186
It's not 40% faster.
_dekoorc@reddit
Parent commenter was off by a lot, but 17% faster is still nothing to scoff at.

Real world testing shows different to that site
karmapopsicle@reddit
It’s worth keeping in mind that those numbers are very vague, use 4K only (2080 Ti tier and above) and do not reflect the most recent numbers.
Take a look at the 1440p results from a 5070 TPU reviewed a couple months ago. Now we’re only looking at 5-7% more performance.
Personally I would take the better upscaling and overall feature suite/dev support, but realistically they’re both very comparable products and a large majority of gamers wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
Ryan32501@reddit
That is not accurate to real world testing.
https://youtu.be/O9u3UPkqp_0?si=8U1H3jrI-eiEj47S
9070 is consistently 30-40% faster than a 4070. Even 50% on some games
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
4070 Super is just a 5070.... But for $550 instead of $650. There is a Power Color Reaper on amazon brand new for $580. That would be my target
George_Mallory@reddit
I got a 7900XT because the 9070XT’s were all over $1K at the time. It can’t ray-trace, but otherwise it’s excellent for 1440p. The most intensive game I’ve played on it is the UE5 Oblivion remake, and it was doing 86fps on max settings with just raster, no upscaling or frame gen. Most other games it maxes out my 165Hz monitor. It’s crashed a few times, booting in safe mode once because of this, but otherwise a good card for the price. Also, it should be getting FSR4 in a few months.
RedLimes@reddit
9070 and 5070 have both been dropping to $500s on pcsales lately.
Performance is more important than VRAM, i.e. I'd rather get a 5070 than a 5060ti 16GB.
hydrovids@reddit
I got a 5070 for $650 and it runs every single game I throw at it. I will admit I havent used it to play the most demanding titles like black myth wukong and the new borderlands, and I play at 1080p, but at $650 I feel like its a good deal. It runs cyberpunk at 120fps with rt on and ultra settings and 240+ with frame gen.
For 99% of games a 5070 will be more than enough at your pricepoint. I also do other stuff so I needed the cuda cores, if you don’t need them, I see a few 9070’s for about that price point as well. I cannot recommend them personally because they didn’t fit my use case and struggled in my circumstances, but if you’re only gaming they are pretty good.

Cheapest xt is probably worth it if its under 700

OP, this deal is still active. Sapphire Pulse 9070XT for $700. You get a free B+ rated PSU for free with it. Sell the PSU for ~$50 and that will take care of your tax on the card.
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
There was one on amazon a day or 2 ago for $660. Sold out pretty quick and the price is back to $730 now
wazero@reddit
Bro 8 got luckily and got one for 548 before taxes..
CSGOan@reddit
I got mine for 600 back at black friday.
In 2020 I paid 750 dollars for a 2070 super... The value you get for 600 now compared to 2020 is insane.
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
I kick the shit out of myself for not buying the one I had in my cart at launch..... Didn't need it, so why?

Amazon. There was a deal link in the 629 deal from two days ago. It was a regional coupon.

They still pop up every so often for under $700 and it's well worth it. I got the ASRock Challenger 9070XT for $600 a few months ago (easily the cheapest XT I could find at the time) and it's been flawless, no need to pay more for a specific brand/model especially in this market.
powerplayer6@reddit
5070 because, as you said, DLSS and FG are really good. VRAM is a bit of a bottleneck, but if you're willing to drop textures down from "ultra" to "high" it's a great experience.
For example, Forza Horizon 6 runs all maxed out, full ray tracing, just textures dropped one step down from Ultra to High, at 1440p, with DLSS Quality, at around 70-80 FPS. If I want to, I can use 2x or 3x FrameGen to get 144 or 180 FPS. They don't add enough latency to be noticeable in a racing game when playing with a very fast wireless 2.4ghz controller, and it looks and feels really smooth.
Though I have to warn you Path Tracing isn't really an option on cards below the 4090/5080 and 5090 tiers. It's just too demanding on compute and memory, you're better off using regular Ray Tracing. But IMO there aren't any games, at least not yet, where you would want to turn Ray Tracing completely off on the 5070.
My rig is:
And I've been playing Doom TDA, FH6, Pragmata, Oblivion Remastered, MGS:Delta, etc. and they all run GREAT when you factor in DLSS and FrameGen. If you really want to, you can even play something like FH6 without DLSS (only DLAA) and no FG, if you're fine with 1440p60 and willing to play with the settings to work around VRAM issues.
Aggravating_Draw6802@reddit (OP)
Would you say getting a base 5070 be better a better option than getting 4070 super at the same price? (About $580 used)
powerplayer6@reddit
They're the same in performance but the 5070 is on a newer architecture, so a few years down the line there might come some DLSS/FG related feature which will only be available on the 50-series (and newer) and not the 40-series. But right now they're not very different. If the 5070 new costs as much as a 4070 Super used then just get the 5070, it's a no brainer, you get warranty and a card that's never been powered on.
Noobitron12@reddit
I just paid $600 for an MSI rtx 5070. Super happy with it

9070xt Just wait till you find it on deal. Check everyday and night lol
maria_santos92@reddit
i dont know much about pc building but everyone saying 9070 xt is making me wish gpu shopping worked like this in brazil lol. stuff here is usually like 40-50% more expensive once you convert so that $600 deal someone mentioned would be a dream
blob8543@reddit
AMD is better for the raw power but Nvidia features are just unmatched. I'm now reaching 180fps at 1440p with most games with my 5070 using a combination of DLSS and frame gen at 4x and it's an amazing experience. Low power usage/noise/heat as well, my card is undervolted and it's normally at 60-70% utilization thanks to FG.
EternalLoner@reddit
9070xt. Maybe a 5070 if you’re going green but the price to performance ratio isn’t worth it. Its about 20-40% slower than the 9070xt. People are also going around suggesting 5070ti over the 9070xt despite costing 300-400€ more with a 2-5% performance difference. Dlss isnt worth 300-400€ more imo

5070 cuz 9070xt is really overpriced rn cuz of the shortage(im also looking to upgrade but I just kept finding it at 999+ and the 5070 at 630)

New or used because I’ve been looking around and the only ones I’ve been able to find are $720 used
SilentlyBrutal@reddit
9070 trumps it for same cost, more vram, and faster in raster by like 10%
Zemilink@reddit
Really?
SilentlyBrutal@reddit
yeah, its kinda surprising to me too honestly, i personally thought that the 5070 should be more powerful than it is, and its just simply not, the 5070ti though compared to the 9070xt is slightly better.

RyWhiteIverson@reddit
5070 if you want to run path tracing for that price. Get it for less than 600. I've been in heaven with mine playing cyberpunk, doom dark ages, pragmata, and Forza horizon 6. I love dlss and frame gen, but I have fun with the tinkering of settings which is kinda mandatory considering the 12gb vram. But I've always been a visuals first kind of single player campaign gamer

Used RTX 4070ti /4070 super or Radeon 9070 16G (non-xt).

I just looked for the cards you mentioned used for thhe older gen and new (and used) for the current cards.
There is an ASrock 9070 XT on amazon for $699 right now. If you watch for deals, you could probably find a memorial day sale or something to get it cheaper. That is by far the best card under $700. 5070ti performance for 5070 price
If you are factoring in tax, so closer to $600... The 7900XT is just a bit slower than the 9070 XT and worse ray tracing since it's a gen behind. $599 used.
Team green is way over priced this generation. Your choices are really a 5070 for $630 or a used 4070 Super (or ti) for $550 used.
Look up the Toms Hardware GPU heirarchy and take a look at the FPS numbers. The 9070 XT or 7900XT are much better choices right now under $700
Orallover1960@reddit
Another vote for 9070xt it's truly the best value for <$700.
OliviaNeedsYou@reddit
For pure 1440p gaming value around that budget, I’d probably lean toward the AMD Radeon RX 9070 or a good deal on a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super. Both are a massive jump from a 3060 and pair reasonably well with a Ryzen 5600.
Aggravating_Draw6802@reddit (OP)
Do you think vram makes much of a difference between these two cards (12 & 16gb)? Because these two have been at the top of my list.
DisappointedCruiser@reddit
9070 GPU. If you can find a deal then the 9070 XT. But in general the 9070 is rock solid too
OliviaBadHabits@reddit
The Ryzen 5600 is still surprisingly solid for 1440p because higher resolutions shift more load onto the GPU. You’ll probably hit GPU limits long before CPU limits in most AAA games unless you’re chasing super high FPS in competitive titles.

9070 XT

9070xt > 9070 > 5070 I guess just go with 9070, maybe you can find used 4070ti for a decent price but if you plan to use it for 5 years then 16gb vram is going to be better
