What's keeping you awake?

Currently wide awake when I should be asleep, thinking and stressing with things like (lack of) finances, crap state of current affairs, how I will be tired tomorrow etc. What's on your mind?
hoosteen84@reddit
Been trying for 3 hours to get my baby back in her cot. Every time I put her down she wakes up. I could cry I’m so tired
PotatoAntique7239@reddit
Been there. It's actual hell. But it gets better I promise.
imtiramisu2025@reddit
:( consistent sleep deprivation when you have a little one is torture. Sending hugs x
hoosteen84@reddit
Thank you :) She’s normally such a great sleeper so this felt a million times worse as I’m not used to it! Finally got her in the cot at 4am, today is going to be a loooong day
tiorzol@reddit
Got my ten hour old baby on my chest, burping him while my wife sleeps.
All the hospital staff have been incredible, hats off to the NHS again, wonderful people.
Unnamed as yet, will put all serious suggestions under consideration.
tobermort@reddit
If you're that grateful to the NHS, he might have to be an Aneurin
tiorzol@reddit
Hmm interesting. Feels a bit out of line calling it a name I can't pronounce though.
roughhexagon@reddit
I believe it's an-eye-rin
However you could call him (b)Evan?
rainaftermoscow@reddit
My SILs oldest is called that, I wouldn't advise it. She was warned the kid would be bullied. And everyone was right.
Altruistic_Dare6085@reddit
Is the kid being bullied because he's called Aneurin or because he's called Evan?
rainaftermoscow@reddit
Aneurin, all three of their kids have impossible to spell Welsh names because SIL is Welsh. And they all get ripped on daily.

I'm up due to nausea and worrying about the fact my morning sickness hasn't settled down way into 2nd trimester. That, plus the smell of my other neighbour's cooking is making me vomit multiple times a day.. it's like living next door to a butchers. It'll be the first bloody thing I smell upon waking.
I appreciate the opportunity to whinge about it, thanks 😊
tunanunabhuna@reddit
Have you told your midwife? I was throwing up still and feeling really sick beyond week twenty and got put on an anti emetic. If you email them they can schedule an appointment and/or get your GP to prescribe you one. I felt dreadful for so long and it made my anxiety so bad but after a week on my anti emetic, I felt so much better.
Lanky-Bug-5656@reddit
Yeah I did mention it a few weeks ago but she just said the usual thing about it passing eventually. I'm pretty certain I didn’t make it known quite how bad it's actually been. I definitely will ask her about anti emetics though, thank you, that's really helpful.
tunanunabhuna@reddit
Definitely try and send an email today to get it in motion already and specify how often you feel nauseous and how it’s affecting how little you can eat. If you’ve had to miss work too, that will help your case! Good luck and if it doesn’t work, call your GP. I didn’t get palmed off at all, I had actually stopped throwing up but was still feeling sick all day so couldn’t eat much and they put me on the anti emetics at 17 weeks.
Ninja008866@reddit
I sucked lemon sherbet’s which helped my morning sickness and gave me a bit of sugar because I couldn’t eat till 9pm every day when I had it bad.
Lanky-Bug-5656@reddit
I've been living on strawberries, apple juice and the scent of peppermint oil. You've given me a hankering for lemon sherbets now you mention them, anything really tangy sounds super appealing all of a sudden 😅

I just got a new house, it's rented but I'm so excited. I'm currently in a council flat and it's too small so I'm going private, my landlord is so lovely and we only started looking 4 DAYS ago and he accepted me straight away. The house is perfect, inspected the property within an inch of its life and I couldn't be happier. I'm too excited to sleep, pick the keys up Saturday.
Lost-Activity6231@reddit
Honestly you would be more secure in the council house. Landlords can still, when it comes to it, do what they want (long term renter here)
Adorable_Click_7071@reddit

Totally relate to this. I then get stuck in this adrenaline loop where as soon as I start drifting off, the realisation that I’m falling asleep wakes me back up. I’ll cycle through this so many times until I’m just flooded with adrenaline.
I have been prescribed daridoxerant which does help but my adrenaline can override it :(
Lanky-Bug-5656@reddit
Do you ever practice any sleep hygiene techniques? I know it's suggested to get out of bed for a short time and do something like make a herbal tea, read a chapter of a book or whatnot, before returning to bed, but that really just makes it worse for me.
Da5ren@reddit
Only thing that’s ever worked for me is getting up, emailing my boss I’ve been up all night unwell and then going back to bed knowing I have the next day off. I don’t get insomnia more than a few times a year though, so it’s manageable

cursed_cucumbers@reddit
Do I want children or does society want me to have children? I love the idea of having kids, but the reality scares me. I don't know if it is sensible to bring up a child in the current state of the world. If any parents want to challenge me on this I'm open to listening
33backagain@reddit
The current state is better for raising a child than almost the whole of human history.
cursed_cucumbers@reddit
Can I ask why you think that? I will admit that I have not existed for the whole of human history but I can certainly say that hatred and politics and economy has massively worsened in the past 10 years
Blind_Warthog@reddit
If it was the 90s I’d have been having kids. Best time in history to be human so far. Now not so much.
niallniallniall@reddit
The hatred and politics aren't really problems in most of the real world. They are like 90% of the online world however. If you stop following the news and curate your online world then it really isn't as bad as the media and the conglomerates want you to believe.
Blind_Warthog@reddit
Big if true
BirthdayBoth304@reddit
This is definitely true re child mortality, communicable diseases, education, sanitation, housing, legal rights and protections. But. What's coming at us re climate change, and quickly, might well take us right back to pre Victorian experiences with child rearing conditions. Regular food shortages, patchy access to energy, we're already seeing the economic and labour market insecurity, the political instability of migration. Personally, bringing a child into that is a no from me.
skloop@reddit
That's a very big claim
imtiramisu2025@reddit
I was the same and after covid I was sure I didn't and as I got older I developed such a strong urge to have a child.
The world historically has been in all kinds of states so I thought my job is to raise a kid that will be a positive contribution and has all the love support and skills to thrive in any environment.
My little one is nearly 5 months and my only advise is, make sure YOU want them because ive found it very difficult, he isnt an easy baby and we have no support network. It's the love and excitement of raising and teaching him things that keeps me going.
cursed_cucumbers@reddit
This is what I am so unsure about. I would love to bring up a child and teach them good values and love them. I know that I would probably be a good parent. But it is all the external things that worry me. Economy, school, social media, bullying, crime, hatred... I feel like there is so much more pressure these days on young people
artifaults@reddit
You cannot control the external factors, only influence them by the choices you make. It sounds like your heart is in the right place because you are considering all factors to ensure future mini you has the best start in life.
DameKumquat@reddit
Twas ever thus. Mostly we're just more aware of it.
I would recommend having the best support network you can, because if you have kids with special needs or you end up disabled, there's not much support out there and half of said network will vanish, but honestly, a lot of the world is a lot better than in the 80s when we all feared nuclear holocausts and AIDS and acid rain.
thegerbilmaster@reddit
Humans have never experienced a better time to live and raise children. Modern living standards is leagues above compared to the previous two centuries.
Despite all the doom and gloom in the world and media, we are the some of the luckiest people to ever be born and to be born in Britain especially, you've hit the absolute jackpot imo.
The world is a tough place to live for anyone, anywhere. Family and wonderful friends are what make life easier.
People have children in metal shacks with no money. If people believe we can't manage to have a children as the average Brit, that's a mindset issue imo.
Familiar-Woodpecker5@reddit
It’s love that raises a child, not money. I understand why people are hesitant today but look at history, women had to bring up children in workhouses, people had a lot less. You build a family on what you have, today’s society has made people feel like they need a high financial standard before becoming parents, I disagree, it’s love and safety that is important. As parents, we make it work and that love and bond will make us move heaven and earth.
klmarchant23@reddit
My child was an accident 16 years ago. A happy accident and I wouldn’t trade him for anything, but still I was young and almost still a kid myself.
I liked the idea of having kids, and having more when I was older. Now I’m older, I couldn’t think of anything worse than forcing someone to live in this world as it is right now.
My son has such struggles as a teenager that weren’t a thing 20 years ago when I was his age. Imagine what a teen will be going through in another 15-20 years and I personally don’t think it will get much better or easier for them.

Worked extremely late and when I should have gone straight to bed, ended up having a drink which perked me up when I should be winding down.

Got a bad virus and my body is NOT cooling down. On the brighter side, I’m feel much less congested, shivery and like I’m swallowing glass than yesterday morning. My I’ve also got cramps and up overthinking the fact that I’ve been planning to go to my friend’s hen-do this weekend but I doubt I’ll be better in time :(

I ate late. I have a very bad sleeping habit, and have had for many years. Sleeping between 1 and 2 is the norm. Yesterday it was 4. P.s. I have a 9 to 6 I need to be up for too.
