Hey, it's The Big Lebowski!
ComradeBullshevik@reddit
This is Charles Durning, who was in The Hudsucker Proxy and O Brother. The Big Lebowski was played by David Huddleston.

Love this scene!

Someone mentioned this movie recently and I went out and got the Blu Ray. It holds up well!
Bonus pic from my Dick Tracy themed birthday party
Columbiyeah@reddit
My 9th birthday party included a screening of Dick Tracy. July 1990.
small___potatoes@reddit
Sweet! Iām July 19th

The Tommy Gun of Endless Ammo. I still like this movie, picked up the Blu-ray last year.
taleofbenji@reddit
Dick Tracy himself dodged about 47,000 bullets without moving a muscle.
BaronGalactic@reddit
Haha, I was going to say - not a single reload was to be seen. Not even a Thompson's barrel magazine could hold nearly that much. Even the guy with the revolver had the infinite ammo cheat on š
Specimen-B@reddit
This movie is great. Just retro-cool world filled with theatrical characters played by a cast that was clearly having fun.
taleofbenji@reddit
It was also back before every single movie was a comic book spinoff, so the idea still felt kind of fresh.
Mysterious-Lab-5918@reddit
Isn't Madonna in this?
Specimen-B@reddit
She is, yes. I believe she said that the songs she recorded for this movie was her favorite record to make.
small___potatoes@reddit
Written by none other than Stephen Sondheim!
Mysterious-Lab-5918@reddit
Thought so, I haven't watched this movie in I don't know how long...
Klutzy_Operation_483@reddit
My wife got me the bluray for my birthday this year. I was shocked how obvious Madonnas nudity was in her nightie. I assume on an old CRT you weren't gonna see it well enough
Columbiyeah@reddit
Same here. I guess us early 80s kids were still prepubescent so it didn't register much at the time.

Sin City before Sin City. Films, i mean.Ā

When I was 7 my dad took me to see this in the theatre at my request and I totally fell asleep during it even though I was enjoying it.
chimchimchow@reddit
I loved this movie, I also had all of the Dick Tracy figures, all except flat top, I never got him, disappointing.
The_Platypus_Says@reddit
Still waiting for the behind the screen camera tech to fully mature so I can use my smartwatch like a true Dick Tracy 2-way wrist TV.
GeetarEnthusiast85@reddit
I wanted one of the two-radio watch that Playmates made. I was so jealous of the friends who had one.
Sometimes I entertain the thought of buying one off of eBay.

I remember visiting family the summer this came out. My mom and aunt decided to take all use kids to an afternoon movie to see Dick Tracy. When we got to the theater I saw the Die Hard 2 poster and asked my mom if I could watch that. She was super stoked because she really didn't want to see Dick Tracy. The only thing that sucked was my brother and cousins all talking about afterwards and I couldn't join in. Great memories.
DreadPirateR2891@reddit
Damn I wish I could get a car with colors like they had! Everything is black, white, grey, or silver now. There's no color left any more!
Writing_Femme@reddit
The video game was a lot of fun too.
heavyLevy5@reddit
I used to listen to this soundtrack nonstop. Quintessential Madonna
weltvonalex@reddit
I totally forgot that movie existed, but yet i can remember the toy watches :D

Hell yes.

Ready to feel old? The Dick Tracy movie came out in 1990, which was 36 years ago.
The Dick Tracy tv show was on the air in 1961 (29 years before the movie).
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
God damn
ranaldo20@reddit
So, when I went to see this movie in the theatre, the projectionist burnt the film right at the start. We were told to come back in a few hours for the next showing, our tickets would count.
Instead of leaving and coming back, my mom and I went and watched Gremlins 2, then came back and watched Dick Tracy. A good day at the movies, haha.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
The ol' double feature!

Isn't it funny how the most excessive violence is completely normalized but God forbid we see a women's boobs?

Back in business and ain't it grand!!!

Let the good times rooooooll!
CSWorldChamp@reddit
I saw this when I was 10 and this scene traumatized me. I had never seen anything so violent in my entire life.

The McDonalds promotion of this was š„š„š„š„
Church42@reddit
I was just thinking about the McDonalds movie merch before I came upon your comment.
It was really great stuff
hamburgler26@reddit
I didn't appreciate it at the time but still enjoyed the movie, but my dad was a big Dick Tracy fan and he always talked about how the movie was shot so that everything just looked like a live action cartoon like the OG cartoons, it really is a great looking movie.
Clamwacker@reddit
I remember reading somewhere that part of the way they achieved that is every color is the same shade. Like the red car and the kids red clothes in this clip.
Themoosemingled@reddit
I wore that ticket t shirt all summer.
wrenwood2018@reddit
What an awesome film
anOvenofWitches@reddit
Back when Madonna ruled the world. Sigh.
Obi_Wan_Benobi@reddit
She was definitely a bit of an awakening for me in this movie.
Honest_Caramel9437@reddit
I like to imagine if she ācame to powerā the same time as Swift, we wouldnāt have to deal with Swift because Madonna would have destroyed her.
GenericDave65@reddit
I watched this for the first time at a drive in theater when I was a kid
redstopgringo@reddit
Back when you could still destroy cars like that willy-nilly because eh thereās still a lot left.
ChrisChuck1@reddit
I havenāt seen this movie in years, but itās great! Went looking for it to stream a couple months ago, but didnāt want to pay to watch it.
Digweedfan@reddit
I went through something similar. Itās a shame it isnāt more accessible.
guyako@reddit
Itās funny looking at the tone of this filmmaking and recognizing how it feels like a mashup of Tim Burtonās Batman (1989) in the scoring, and the editing and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) in the color palate and strange theatricality.
tr1mble@reddit
Pachino turned down Goodfellas for this
badhatharry@reddit
I AMUSE YOU HOW!!?!!!?!!?!
Tizzle_Boy_Get_Em@reddit
This reminds me of a time when movies could just be fun.
WeenisPeiner@reddit
No wonder there wasn't a sequel. Tracy killed the entire rougue gallery in this scene.
tinglep@reddit
I was genuinely sad about Flattop. I consider him the quintessential Tracy enemy and expected him to survive.

Stuffleapugus@reddit
Wish I still had the action figures.
Mysterious-Lab-5918@reddit
I remember those...
rootbeer277@reddit
I've only fallen asleep during two movies, Dick Tracy and Waterworld.
The entire appeal of this movie is "Oh look it's [famous actor] under 5 pounds of prosthetic makeup!" and I was too young to know who any of them were.
Specimen-B@reddit
No, the appeal was it's production design, being an earnest adventure story with heart, pulpy action, and it's Danny Elfman score.
rootbeer277@reddit
If you were critiquing the production design and musical score at age 12, all I can say is we had very different childhoods.
Specimen-B@reddit
Who said critiquing? Appeal meaning something that draws interest or attention. I wouldn't have said production design at 12, I just knew I liked the look of the film and characters. But I was a massive score nerd (still am) so on that front, yeah we may have had very different childhoods.
Mysterious-Lab-5918@reddit
1990? I'm pretty sure I saw this in the theater... I would have been Nine...
p00ki3l0uh00@reddit
I maintain this movie is a fever dream.

If you parade push your units into a concave of defenders, you're gonna have a bad time.
Pandorasopinbox@reddit
I watched this a million times as a kid
PhantoWolf@reddit
I loved it as a kid. So much atmosphere. I'd love to recreate some of those mattes from this movie on the walls of my house.
