What is a place that I must try in the Plano area for dinner? Ideally something that can't be found outside of texas.

Taqueria Los Angeles on 15th east of Jupiter. Get the Tacos Dorados, Barbacoa. You get a drink with your order, and they have amazing aguas Fresca!
Cosmic-Ape-808@reddit
It’s actually on 14th street

It’s hard to find something that truly can’t be found outside Texas in this area. But here are some local options:
Hutchins BBQ - suggest McKinney location. Overall, meat/sides/etc., my favorite. Get a Texas Twinkie.
Babes - Frisco, local home style chain that has great food, but hard to really enjoy if you’re dining solo.
Jorg’s - downtown Plano, Austrian, fun place. Check their hours/schedule
El Publito - small family owned Tex Mex spot that is very local
Bavarian Grill - local German spot, they moved to the current location and lost a bit of their ambiance, but still good food and a wider menu than Jorg’s.
Bar Ranch Steakhouse - downtown Plano. Excellent experience but it is quite expensive. I haven’t had an experience quite like it anywhere else.
Hope you enjoy your visit!

Just curious about this part. What would be the difference of going with others, and going alone?
Soonerthannow@reddit
It’s served family style, not that you couldn’t go alone, but I’ve never been solo.

EG steak, in Frisco. There are places like it in other cities, but nobody is quite as good

If you want Tex-Mex, La Hacienda in Frisco is fantastic. Home of the first ever frozen margharita machine!

I think technically their Dallas location gets to boast that record but yes, still very good.

If you want good and budget friendly Fish Shack is great!

One of the best fish joints in DFW.

Desperados, and order the Desperados Tacos (the fried ones).
I'm don't usually think tex mex is very different than what you get elsewhere, but the Desperados Tacos were a new twist for me.

Babes (not really Plano but close), Jorg's in downtown.

Hatsuyuki - sushi

okonomiyaki?

They don’t have that there but suggest going to Chinchikurin for that! But it’s in Carrollton

Haywire
korpo53@reddit
Definitely Haywire.
ChibbleChobble@reddit
I agree.
Get the meatloaf. I appreciate that meatloaf exists elsewhere, but Haywire do a damn good one.
korpo53@reddit
Yup, meatloaf and the chicken fried steak are top notch. I used to live walking distance from there, and the Cobb salad was also regular dinner too.

Hutchins in McKinney
Wu Wei din - try the black truffle dumplings
DonkeyHair@reddit
Get bbq - Hutchins
Or get some good Chinese - try Sauerkraut Fish aka B2J Fish Soup
Lurcher99@reddit
I'd add Korean BBQ as well, as it's not that common yet outside major cities.

Honestly, go to Texas steakhouse (not Texas Roadhouse). It’s technically in Richardson but it’s a quintessential Texas dining experience and maybe my favorite steakhouse in the area.
