NightH4nter@reddit
it's just a windows vm underneath
Grey_Ten@reddit
? why do you play him down? it's impossible to run newer versions of Ms Office using Wine.
Besides, setting up Winapps takes a good amount of time

Thank you. This Linux subreddit is lowk v snobby. In the Fedora sub reddit people were interested, so I thought I'd share it further. I was thinking if enough people are interested I'll make a little guide for those who want to but don't know how. But now I feel like I'd be a kid teaching an adult to sharpen a pencil if I were to do that.
fellowsnaketeaser@reddit
Well, this is the Linux sub. *The* place, where Microsoft isn't welcome. So it's also about reading the room. But great, you got that going! Congrats!

Why hate Microsoft that much? I get disliking Windows, but dude you guys need to chill. "Reading the room"?
Are we being for real? I don't like Microsoft like that, but I sure as hell can accept when someone other than me has done a good job.
fellowsnaketeaser@reddit
Microsoft tried to bully and kill Linux on multiple occations both financially and legally. They are the arch enemy, by their own choice and actions.
leonredhorse@reddit
Not the guy you’re replying to and no skin in this game, but this isn’t a thing we haven’t known about for a while. He used WinApps, but Winboat does the same thing and blew up a few months ago. I legit thought the OP got it working with Wine or something the way someone got Adobe Lightroom working and thought it was a new and cool thing. I’m glad the user is working but I am slightly disappointed that it isn’t a new, more “native” way.
non-existing-person@reddit
Yeah, there is a way since... I dunno, 2010 or even better? vmware (and now even virtualbox afaik) has something called seamless mode. You run VM, but you only see apps running on that vm, and it looks like it's native app (albeit it looks a bit different). Old tech.
dr-shibz@reddit
Gives people interested in switching to Linux one less reason not to. Showing it's possible
Ok_Thought923@reddit (OP)
Yea buddyy
PocketStationMonk@reddit
And this is just air we breathe. Doesn't mean it's not cool or exciting.

nice.
but doesn't it defeat the purpose? ;-)
Ok_Thought923@reddit (OP)
Depends on your purpose.
I dislike Windows 11. I like MS Office.
I no longer have to use Windows 11. I can still use MS Office.
SamSausages@reddit
I had similar issue, Onlyoffice ended up working great for me.
Ok_Thought923@reddit (OP)
I tried it but didnt like it. Each to their own. And showing it's possible can help draw people away from Windows and towards Linux
dr-shibz@reddit
This..
PocketStationMonk@reddit
Defeat what purpose?
kcsebby@reddit
Okay but… why?
Ok_Thought923@reddit (OP)
To use Excel with its big VBA stuff. And be able to use something I'm used to and like. Not for everyone but some people switching to Linux want this, and it's often a factor holding people back
TRKlausss@reddit
I’m curious: is the VBA exclusive to MS Office? Or does LibreOffice implement it too?
Ok_Thought923@reddit (OP)
https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/sbasic/shared/vbasupport.html
Limited support
NightH4nter@reddit
it is exclusive. i've heard libreoffice uses lua for similar stuff
Ok_Thought923@reddit (OP)
VBA is proprietary to Microsoft and, apart from the COM interface, is not an open standard
