My neighbour told me sinkholes keep swallowing his runways, so I asked how many runways he has had and he says he just goes to the FAA and gets funding for more runways so I said that just sounds like he's feeding airport funding to the landfill and then the airlines started crying

I know what you're quoting, but ironically it's true in this case.
- Newark Metropolitan Airport (1928 - built on landfill)
- Flushing Airport (1929 - built on wetlands; frequently flooded)
- Floyd Bennett Field (1930 - built on landfill; never took off as a commercial airport)
- La Guardia Airport (1939 - built on landfill)
