Genuine question since you were a longtime GOP voter which had, pre-Trump, generally aligned itself with the belief that the US is the global hegemon and security guarantor.

Trump seemed like a wrecking ball. Drain the swamp and all of that BS. He made a lot of promises and I genuinely thought he was an outsider and would go stir shit up like Javier Malei seems to be doing in Argentina.

His first term was underwhelming, but I attributed that to overwhelming opposition by government elites and him making bad nominations based on dubious advice.

Now that he’s lame duck and he has flopped and succumbed to the swamp, I see the light. I see him for what he truly is. I think there are still a lot of MAGA out there (mostly boomers) who can’t see it for what it is. I began leaning libertarian a long time ago. This is just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Even MTG and Massie fell for his BS to some degree.

You went from Massie to Libertarian? Not much of a stretch, he represented the libertarian wing as do some others in the Republican party, but Republicans are not libertarian, they are just adjacent to a larger degree than the socialist party, so we put up with them to keep the evil at bay.

Yep, I feel largely the same way, except I haven't been as reliably as a Republican voter as you. I am a libertarian at heart but registered Republican as I viewed them as the lesser of two evils. I voted for Gary Johnson in 2016, but did vote for Trump in 2020 and again in 2024. I have never felt more betrayed politically in my life. The all-out assault against Massie was the last straw for me, and now I'm committed to never voting for a Republican again in a Federal election. Not while the party is under the boot of a committed authoritarian with no principles other than scratching his own ego.

I live in Pennsylvania which has closed primaries, so I am remaining registered Republican for now so I can continue to have a voice in the primary and will only choose candidates committed to liberty and limited government.

Yo! We are similar, I have been rural conservative and libertarian like my dad is etc. joined in 05-15(10 years).

after the complete unrepresentative, uniparty actions this caucus has committed, I can no longer be a part of it. None of them seem to understand That everyone of these military threats, actions, strikes etc, all equal someone dying. Too many of all of us died, not long enough ago to be anywhere close to thinking about this shit.

That election really felt like a slap in the face. God forbid we have one person in congress that represents the libertarian right.

I feel like Thomas Massie may stick in politics considering all the media attention he has. Best case scenario is that he runs for president (he’s at three percent in the polymarket ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) but that may be a longshot.
