Hurts your heart don't it?

I am trying to convince the owner (80 years old) to allow me to drag it out of the woods and preserve and eventually attempt to restore this 1955? Dodge d30. Key is in the ignition.

Doesn't have to be showroom restored. Just put into a running/stopping condition. It looks salvagable.

Tom's refurb on YouTube has taken cool truck bodies and drop them onto to modern truck frames/engines. If the frame is salvageable I'd build this thing like pole barn garage from YouTube, self tapper and some floorboards, get the thing running, replace and grease some bearings, and hit the road.

I’d buy it for $2k in a second. Would make a rad drift truck. I know people in the scene that would pay $5k for decent shells to drop them onto tube/altered chassis.
hydrogen18@reddit
put it on the chassis of an old crown vic
Minuuven@reddit
Look at what polebarn garage did with his $200 holy goat on youtube
MinorComprehension@reddit
I'm with you on this. Would be a perfect patina / original character project.

Keep trying, could be super cool. Looks super straight for a truck trying to return to the earth.
Legitimate-Exam-9414@reddit
Looks complete. I'd got for it. 409 powered to boot.
dsmerritt@reddit
No, read the thread. NOT a 409 "W" Chevy engine but a Mopar "poly" engine.
lightingthefire@reddit
what’s the other classic in the photo?
mini4x@reddit
1st pic early 80s Chevy Pickup, pic 5 looks like a late 60s Dodge Polara.

I can fix her

Is your dad a television repair man?
titsmuhgeee@reddit
Cool truck. That hood is neat. Similar to my International L-110 that opens from either side.
Take it from me, someone who restored an extremely rare 50's pickup, restoring these is not for the faint of heart. Parts are essentially gone. You make due with what you have, repair the existing, or replace with a different part. Finding originals is literally impossible.
Expert_Mad@reddit
If it was a Ford or Chevy or even GMC I wouldn’t hesitate because of LMC but Dodge? Eh, not so much.
mini4x@reddit
This a 3 year only C series. Super rare, but super cool.

I was curious so I went online to look. Seems like this website at least could be a resource for vintage Dodge trucks. DMC Classics
Estef74@reddit
Make a cash in hand offer(literally) and see if the owner bites. Some times seeing that you have cash changes things. The engine looks like a dodge Red Ram poly 270 V8. Of you do score the truck and want to use that engine this is a good place to get parts and info.

Doesn’t look too far gone to drop on a new chassis/driveline. Basis of an easy patina build right there, and I don’t think it’s even too far gone to go for a clean paint resto job.
Open_Law4924@reddit
I see this about every day. Bunch of geezers that can’t just do something with it or let someone else
Entire-Cold-7384@reddit
a little brake cleaner is all it takes
Affectionate-Sun9373@reddit
Restomod. Doesn't look too bad for how long I assume it's been there. Where i am, I watched a car sit with a for sale sign for maybe 15 years. The for sale sign seemed to melt, the car just eventually sank. It was a nice enough Plymouth laser when parked.
myfishprofile@reddit
Not every restoration needs to be a concourse (however that’s spelled)
A driver is just fine most the time
UnbelievableDingo@reddit
You'd be better off finding a cornbinder truck that's still 3ft off the ground after sinking into the ground for 40 years.
This one is nothing but problems down low.
fxr92wing@reddit
I certainly does hurt my heart…I hope you can convince him!
moose4130@reddit
That floor is going to be a rusty mess sitting in that soil. Maybe the frame, too. Good luck.
slimytoilet@reddit
Yea it’s junk I’ll come grab it from ya
Jamesaki@reddit
Derek from VGG will have this purring, ready to drive 800 miles home in no time fellers.
direcheetah4579@reddit
Ask him if he's gonna fix it. If yes then tell him let's start today and grab a tow strap. Maybe he gets started with your help, realizes how much work it is, and how much you dig it he will sell then.
Cauvinus@reddit
I did a double take scrolling by this, I literally just saw a fairly nice one on my bike ride home from work and turned around to see what it was.
Logical_Ad_5431@reddit
It’s got the polyspherical head V8, too…pretty obscure engine.
motocycledog@reddit
Maybe he wants to be buried in it?
lokigottaeat@reddit
I could fix it
Aleutian_Solution@reddit
That can be saved. Couple hours with a grinder, a few floor pans and some road signs, and a welder and it’ll be good as new.
slimersnail@reddit
Sounds like the owner "knows what he has". Saw it sell once for 5 million on Barrett Jackson 🤣. Maybe he will kick the bucket before its totally toast.
bloodrocks12@reddit (OP)
But then what happens to the truck? It's not like it becomes fair game right?
slimersnail@reddit
Doubtful the heirs will want it. They will probably hire a company to remove everything. It could be sold or crushed at that point, depending on whether the estate sale company thinks it has any value.
