How so? Like they put less effort into refurbishing? I also don’t know everything they do. They replace the barrel and the stock (depending on the grade) right?
Yes, but if you are planning on shooting it (and why wouldn't you?) do NOT use commercial off the shelf .30-06 ammunition. It will destroy your rifle.
There are companies that make aftermarket gas plugs that let you shoot the off the shelf stuff without the risk, so if off the shelf is all you can get, I'd invest in one of those.
I would pay that, just because I want a WW2 era and the 6 digit serial is nice l, plus a bayonet. As far as actually using it ideally you would see how worn the crown and barrel rifling is.
This is a great way to learn to be honest. Milsurp collectors obsess and you really start to learn stamps, markings, who put them there and what timing. It's really a beautiful history lesson and as you explain that to someone they can see the passion.
Cartouches missing is common. Id love to find a stock with a GHS stamp.
Considering that the only ones in stock at the CMP currently are listed at $1150, that's your price floor right now. Add $25 for your club fee, add $35 for shipping. No need for ffl since they can ship to your door. So a CMP expert grade garand with some new manufacture is $1210 and comes with a hard case. Compare that to the garand at the store for $90 (maybe +sales tax) more that you can inspect for quality (are you a good inspector?) & take home today.
In my opinion, CMP would be the way to go instead of this one.
Great answer. I did buy it. 1300 flat no taxes. I did see the bayonet go for a couple hundred a few places so that brings it to about even which makes it worth it for me. Now I'm inspecting it. No I'm not a good inspector so to speak but I will have a buddy also look over it who's in the cmp community.
Good shit 👍 you definitely got a good deal overall as long as it's in decent condition. imo, a garand you want to shoot regularly is worth buying for $2k or less. A garand you won't shoot that often should be under $1400.
That actually looks really sick. You can search up the serial to find date of receiver manufactur, but it looks like a 1950s Garand. If you can guage the muzzle, it can tell you if the barrel is shot out, but the pic looks pretty tight. Looks like good condition, I'd go for it. When they're gone, they're gone.

Seem a lot worse listed for a lot more
Medical-Conflict-438@reddit (OP)
That's what I'm thinking. Cmp is more now and I lowkey like how this is not a cmp
Pray4dat_ass96@reddit
n00b here, is CMD considered less desirable?
Significant_View_250@reddit
I think the quality of CMP rifles has gone down somewhat.

I don't honestly know some people love cmp but I think they're over saturated now.

National park service, didnt know they listed these dates n numbers, says dec 1941 i beIieve
castle_crossing@reddit
Definitely, but beware the ammo cost. It's become an expensive rifle to shoot.
Significant_View_250@reddit
I'd buy it!
MArkansas-254@reddit
If it goes bang, in the good way, I’d buy it at that price
pinesolthrowaway@reddit
It’s the 6 digit with the bayonet, yes
IanKelsonMD@reddit
Meh, buy an ar15, ammo and an frt.
Medical-Conflict-438@reddit (OP)
Already have 2😂

My friend who has one was telling me about that. I'll definitely order some lighter rounds now. I will absolutely be shooting it!

He didn't have a flashlight for a better photo of the rifling but I did ask haha
turbotictac@reddit
If you dont get it tell me where it is...lol
Medical-Conflict-438@reddit (OP)
Yall convinced me I got it😂 super stoked
chacho67@reddit
Make sure its tucked into your shoulder. The kick wakes you up. And that ching noise is the best.
DeFiClark@reddit
Depending on maker, the bayonet alone could be at least two bills. More than fair retail price.
Sarge_09@reddit
Better buy it or you will regret it forever. Ask me how I know this lol
Important-Dream-4010@reddit
These days almost all of them that are functional are bringing that or more
Alpha_Hellhound@reddit
You're right. Even cracked stocks and missing parts don't drop the value much.
Mista_Phista@reddit
Any cartouches on the stock by chance? Serial number of the receiver alone would get some buyers after it
Medical-Conflict-438@reddit (OP)
I didn't see any, there is a P on the grip though. I have a lot of research to do. No cleaning kit in the stock🥲

considering CMP lists pretty beat looking ones for that price, yeah Id say so.

I'll probably get 1 deer with it and shoot every so often like I do with my mosin!
Lupine_Ranger@reddit
Unfortunately, yeah. Probably.
BroseppeVerdi@reddit
6 digit Springfield CMP rifle in very good condition? Yeah, that's a solid buy.
BroseppeVerdi@reddit
Yep. Do you know the production date? Should be easy enough to look up using the SN.

6 digit number puts the reciver well b4 the 50's
AustinDanger_Powers@reddit
It has a post war rear sight knob, might be a rebuild on an earlier receiver. Still cool.
turbotictac@reddit
50s era rifles are in the later 3 millions and up
advmaxx@reddit
Go for it, finding one that nice that well priced is getting harder to do every day.
Mauser_Superiority@reddit
100% instant pick up for me since it includes a bayonet as well.
doulikefishsticks69@reddit
Coming with the bayonet too? Thays not a bad deal at all. Those arent cheap anymore.
RGBlowMe@reddit
Needs a little cleaning, but definitely worth more than $1300 if you look at CMP's prices nowadays.
