This is the "Croatian/Macedonian" aisle in my local German supermarket. Would you say that this is a good choice of products?

Štrudle 🔥
AlternativeDraw1795@reddit
I love those filled with figs.
CataphractBunny@reddit
Domaćica is a half-empty box of disappointment. Bajadera sucks, and has been sucking for the last 10 years at least. Kviki stuff is great.
Kreol1q1q@reddit
Eh, Domaćica is solid, if the batch is good. They sometimes have weird batches which don’t taste as good as they should. It’s still overpriced and half empty though.
begbieli@reddit
Shrinkflation at its best, still a tier 1 cookie.
BeatnologicalMNE@reddit
Brother/sister... I just realized, after 30 years, that it's Bajadera and not Bajodera... Why, oh why, did I always read it as Bajodera? 😃
It used to be really good up until 2000s or something similar. Now it's just almost 100% sugar, it's sad. 😞
CataphractBunny@reddit
Are you blind as a bat by any chance? 😂
I can recommend Optika Kobačić if you're in Zagreb.
BeatnologicalMNE@reddit
Ahahah, not yet (thanks God!). :D
DDDX_cro@reddit
Bajadera same price as in Croatia??

RegionSignificant977@reddit
Is that ajvar? If you see ajvar you buy. That's it.
dr_phill17@reddit
I just came to type ajvar could be nicer haha This is still good, but we have better ajvar than this
RegionSignificant977@reddit
That's because you are spoiled balkanian. If you are German or Balkan man in Germany it will be awesome.
baron_spaghetti@reddit
Or kuopolo.
Veilchengerd@reddit
Knowing my country, it's probably the blandest ajvar you can imagine.
PisicaIntergalactica@reddit
Came here to comment this
CTPABA_KPABA@reddit
Bajadera. I swear Croatian put heroin in it it is so good and addictive.
DosadnoMiJeBrate@reddit
It's just sugar. Sugar is more addictive than cocaine. You are doing drugs.
DosadnoMiJeBrate@reddit
Ajvar, Vegeta, Kviki and Linolada are decent picks, Smoki is also alright but everything else is pretty forgettable and not really worth it. I'm sure you can buy domestically made pickled goods and pasta.
krofnica8989@reddit
Croatian/Macedonian 😂 what a combo is that
mmmlan@reddit
and Polish/Russian next to it. goddamn germans…
AccomplishedQuit6535@reddit
Most of those products are from Serbia but somehow it's "Croatian /Macedonian "aisle.
West-Essay-7517@reddit
Owned by Croatian companies
Hour-Promotion-2496@reddit
Well everything and everyone is from Serbia, so it's fine, no need to write it.
deviendrais@reddit
Did you not see Medela, ZačinC, Štark and SwissLion?
BeatnologicalMNE@reddit
One reality check for you. Stark is owned by Atlantic Grupa. Google that name and you are in for a world of surprises... Actually, so many other brands that were originally deom Serbia have been bought by Atlantic Grupa...
Zacin C (among many other brands that were originally from Serbia) is owned by Nestle.
Sufficient-Way7256@reddit
What do corpo acquisitions have to do with anything? Like half of all food products on the planet are somehow under Nestle.
You think your local grandma seasoning is now swiss cuisine?
BeatnologicalMNE@reddit
It has to do everything actually, especially in a scenario you mentioned (Nestle).
All of those "local" recipes are more and more unified and exist in the same shape or form in big chunk of the western world, we just tend to believe they are prominent in region X while in reality they aren't and exist in other places just under different name.
Jaffa sweets are best example. Pretty much whole Ex Yu thinks they are from these areas yet that's not the case, they are licensed from UK Jaffa.
Sufficient-Way7256@reddit
You lost the plot
deviendrais@reddit
Lol I literally called it
just_for_browse@reddit
crazy how you predicted being fact checked
deviendrais@reddit
More like predicted someone being overly pedantic. When you go to a Balkan food isle you care that the products are made according to authentic Balkan recipes and not what company owns the most stocks of it.
Štark being majority owned by a Croatian company didn’t stop kosovars from boycotting the products a couple of years ago because they were “Serbian”
BeatnologicalMNE@reddit
You are right, when you go to a Balkan food isle you care that products are from the Balkans.
However, it was your note "There’s a solid amount of Serbian* products there" which would imply that indeed, some people do care from which country product is, no? 😄
However to be completely honest, majority of those products originated from Yugoslavia anyway hence it really does not matter if they are Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian or whatever... Not like any of those products are using original recipes, or for that matter, not like majority of old Yugoslavian products where not just licensed from bigger world brans (e.g. KinderLada being just licensed Ferrero product etc).
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
So many Štark products
deviendrais@reddit
“Ackshully, 🤓 Štark is majority owned by a Croa-“
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
I don’t understand. Are now original Serbian brands, like Smoki, supposed to be referred to as Croatian?
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
I don’t know about most, but i definitely can see some Serbian products and it’s strange to be labelled as a product from another country.
They could name it the Balkan aisle or something, or just sell the products that actually are from said country.
MrSmileyZ@reddit
Yugo Isle, maybe?
Think_Beginning1166@reddit
Slide 2 and 3 are full with macedonian products
driftstyle28@reddit
Croatian/Macedonian, how random. Why not Bosnian/Montenegrin😂
petre_m_andreevski@reddit
That's outside in the bakery under the tree shade.
Mako2401@reddit
Ajvar is the best, I've never met anyone who doesn't love it. Smoki are also tasty, they have peanat-y taste
petre_m_andreevski@reddit
Smoki Magnus Hot 🔥
Schmutzschutzigen@reddit
Domaćica used to be great. But now is sugary crap. Bajadera is even worse now.
Ok_Albatross_7743@reddit
eat ajvar.
Maximum-Doctor2564@reddit
I see no Plazma. Or is it more a serbian thing?
NoDimension2705@reddit
Yes
kvnstantinos@reddit
Macedonian? Burn that aisle
blodskaal@reddit
if it has Ajvar and Smoki, thats all i really need lol
Beautiful_Ad6686@reddit
I found my one 👍🏻
PairPrevious4740@reddit
Ajvar ist sehr gut, aber das beste ist Fasul. Muss man probieren
ilkovsky@reddit
I'm surprised there's no chocolate bar with a variation of the n-word.
BeatnologicalMNE@reddit
That's actually a candy, not a chocolate bar. No? :D
ilkovsky@reddit
It was a popular candy snack in Bulgaria in the late 90s/00s lol Of the "dry mini cake" kind, and this is how it looks
BeatnologicalMNE@reddit
Ohhhhhhhhh... That's new, I thought you are talking about "Negro" candies that we have in Croatia/Serbia/Montenegro/Bosnia. 😃
ilkovsky@reddit
How can something so wrong taste so good? 😪
BeatnologicalMNE@reddit
😃
Capricornnetwork05@reddit
there are candies too, you’re right
ChrisRedfield696969@reddit
Vegeta is a classic
crivycouriac@reddit
It’s just sweets
silentmarrow@reddit
there are 3 slides
577564842@reddit
Čokolino?
Local_Collection_612@reddit
Yeah that a good choice of products. In the main Dutch supermarkts we have Podravka ajvar and Eti biscuits from Romania. But the Turkish supermarket has a good amount of balkan products.
Appropriate-Ad5877@reddit
They have all the staples, Vegeta, Smoki, and Ajvar.
aha_mhm@reddit
0 macedonian products there. The rest is also a bit meh. I do like me some Strudle tho.
Think_Beginning1166@reddit
Are u blind or what ?
Strange_Status_7690@reddit
Podravka and Kraš are definitely great Balkan brands. And I see little Bananko there. 😁
