Is it worth visiting Seaside towns this weekend? Something to Avoid or worth the inevitable chaos?

What do you think, bank holiday weekend, half term AND good weather?! Stay at home or get away?

Stay closer to home, be so much time saved and so much time to do things. All in 1 day.  Bank holiday, nice but too hot weather, Sunday service on public transport . schools on half term holiday, all have the same thinking and same idea head to beach head to seaside. not many would travel on trains to seasides because of the £3 bus fare cap for that reason busses to seasides are likely to be full, over crowding and swelteringly uncomfortable. Delays too. No onboard toilets which means having to plan your own toilet use to avoid discomfort. Driving to any popular destinations on this bank holiday monday like seasides will be no better. Congestion, roads possible gridlock. time wasted driving round looking for a parking space, More hassle then its worth.

Its knowing where to go, like avoid Bournemouth but go to Boscombe, avoid Blackpool but go to Lytham, avoid Camber, but go to Greatstone. Many other alternatives.

Fucking hell not sure if I'd risk Boscombe

The Nicer Areas (Seafront & Boscombe Manor) Conversely, the award-winning Boscombe Beach is gorgeous and much more peaceful than central Bournemouth. The seafront features a beautifully restored pier, fancy beach lodges, and surf amenities. The residential area stretching toward Southbourne (known as Boscombe Manor) is highly sought-after, leafy, and perfectly safe.

I love being at the seaside when it's busy. If I wasn't going away, I'd definitely go. I'm in the Midlands and usually go to Hunstanton these days. When the kids were little, we often camped at Burnham-on-Sea any weekend the sun was out. We could get there quite quickly if we picked them up from school at 3.30 with the car already packed.

No to anywhere in the uk near the sea. Expensive day out and what will you actually do. Park , walk , get food , spend more time in the shopping centre there , then go home.

No one ever goes to Worthing, you'll be fine.

I live 300 m from the sea on the south coast. Every hot weekend we have to make a conscious decision to stay home or go out of town as in and around home can get very busy. We do go to the beach but tends to be first thing or late afternoon/ early evening once the day trippers have gone home.

I have been in Clacton for 3 weeks. The wind blew so hard, it was battering my face, it rained and the sky was grey. But ….. I fly out today and apparently the weather is changing for the better. Go for it, you can’t get better than a British beach. Enjoy.

What crime did you commit to be sentenced to 3 weeks in Clacton? It must have been bad.

That’ll be lovely this week 🥰 recommend the beacon on the west hill, really nice for kids as loads of space to run round and they have a BBQ going on

Yep we plan on heading up the hill, didn’t do that last time 👍

The beacon is a proper hidden gem, never overly busy either.

You should go to the country park, there's a seal colony that lives on the beach between Fairlight nudist beach and Pett Level. There's like 50 of them. Be careful of the tides if you do it

Yes, it's down that end of the beach. I've not been on it yet, but it looks fun. It was there last year too.

When I see all the DFLs pouring out of a packed un-air conditioned train and shambling down the hill to sit on a tiny patch of pebbles surrounded by barbecues, screaming kids, screaming adults etc I really can’t see the appeal. And I’ve lived here since 2009!

It's going to be rammed everywhere. Plenty of nice spots that aren't by the sea 😉

View on Reddit #86499177

It depends whether you are bothered by places being really crowded. I actually don’t mind busy places so that wouldn’t put me off but my biggest concern would be traffic and parking so I’d probably go somewhere by train personally.
View on Reddit #86499155

Gullible_Fan4427@reddit

I live near the coast, so for me I’ll avoid leaving my home as much as possible. If I didn’t live here, then I’d travel to the coast!

View on Reddit #86498694

No-Photograph3463@reddit

Yes, but do it different to everyone and just go down late afternoon and stay till it gets dark. Means you miss most of the traffic and get to enjoy the day when it's abit cooler too.
View on Reddit #86498393

ohsaycanyourock@reddit

I grew up in Cromer and it was rammed a) every bank holiday or school holiday and b) whenever it was warm and sunny. If you're fine with crowds go for it, but be prepared!
View on Reddit #86498156

ShineAtom@reddit

I've been bank holiday=stay at home for a good many years. This is probably due to increased traffic in the various areas\* where I have lived or worked over the years. \*Dorset coast; Peak district; Kent coast; Sussex coast; Lincolnshire coast. There are more but the list is long enough as it is.

Cornwall - if beaches are too busy a twenty minute walk along the coastal path and you’ll find a beach all to yourself.

It's The Ship music festival in Teignmouth this weekend. Everyone's normally pissed by 1pm on the Sunday as it is, so this could be one for the ages!! I sense there's a lot of pent up tension after the recent weather.
View on Reddit #86497644

LocaliserEstablished@reddit

Just go to the slightly less well travelled seaside towns. Worthing or Eastbourne instead of Brighton, for example.
View on Reddit #86497637

ApprehensiveRun1382@reddit

Reddit will tell you to stay at home, forever. With your cat. Forget your human kid. If you must go out, check that the street has less than 3 people around. Because human presence is uncomfortable. People will constantly talk about how their hometown is the best in the UK, but they don’t want outsiders to visit. It’s simple, really
View on Reddit #86497470

Thomas5020@reddit

Nope. I don't even like going for a walk when it's sunny, just stupid amounts of people.
View on Reddit #86497305

K0monazmuk@reddit

Depends really, not every patch of UK coastline is going to be busy, think outside the box, places that need a bit of a walk to get to from a car park are less busy if you can manage it, if that means looking at a map in a bit more detail then go for it.

I live very near the coast. We avoid the beaches in the summer. Too many Londoners travel down and the accidents and drownings increase each year.
