Import americans to germany for work

Germany needs workers, urgent. There are a lot of jobs to be done and we can't always invite people from africa or vietnam or stuff.
Americans do need to work, too, and in germany, they don't need to cook meth if they have to go to the hospital, it would be a win win, despite that, americans and germans usually both talk english. So no big deal?
Diet_Connect@reddit
Dude, I doubt someone cooks meth that ain't using. Doesn't matter what else they tell you. It's not because they can't afford a hospital, lol.
Also, that meth cook, you don't want in Germany. Too many fried braincells. No good for any work.

FYI, it was a joke referencing the show Breaking Bad

We have a lot of under-skilled. Under-employed. People working 3 "just under the minimum hours for required benefits" jobs. Some would be happy to emigrate or train for better jobs, but these are the people who are constantly working or on-call just to meet rent and have no reserve funds at all. We have employers who whine about the lack of skilled workers, but don't train. Schools that tell everyone they need a college degree. Colleges that don't prepare students for any profession or prepare 10x as many students as there are job openings in that profession. We have people warning of a coming labor shortage for decades now. But employed people retire later, work more hours, employ immigrants and automation. Increases in "compensation" have largely been swallowed by inflation and the increased costs of living and benefits even as the quality of benefits has declined ( high deductible health care, inputs to retirenent funds). My father's employer paid for his college and matched 6% of salary into his 401k, while strike providing life insurance and a pension.

There are many, many more available and higher paying jobs in the US than Germany
limbodog@reddit
Higher pay, much lower benefits.
I know people who would happily relocate to Germany for work if they could. But not speaking any German beyond "gezundheit" is presumed to be a disadvantage.
PABLOPANDAJD@reddit
The “much lower benefits” is pretty debatable, especially for the type of people relocating to the states from Germany. Most are college graduates, especially in tech and medicine. Those jobs often have great benefits, which lessens the appeal of Germany’s state-operated healthcare.
Plus, the people leaving Germany for the US tend to be doing so because they are hardworking, want better jobs, and are willing to take on the risk of leaving the German social net to do so. The (non-military) people leaving the US for Germany are often retirees, artistic types, and those looking to work less and be taken care of by the German safety net. One half of that equation is a lot more valuable from a national contribution standpoint.
Statistically, after filtering out military personnel, roughly the same amount of people move from Germany to the US as the other way around. That sounds nice and neutral, until you realize the US has 4 times the population of Germany, which means a significantly higher proportion of Germans are moving to the US, relatively to their home country’s population. Not good for Germany.

I’m a college grad in tech with insurance and I would gladly trade places either someone in Germany. Even if you have insurance, it’s a fucking headache and still costs more than what you’d get in Europe. It’s not just healthcare, it’s work-life balance. I get 2.5 weeks vacation tine + holidays. Germany, the minimum is 4 weeks.
JohnDoe432187@reddit
You’d be happy to earn half your current salary with significantly higher taxes.
Also Germany has mandatory insurance not free healthcare like the UK.
liarandahorsethief@reddit
Cool, now do school shootings and violent crime.
limbodog@reddit
I can't speak for the population at large. But the ones I know who want to leave the USA are in the tech field, saw their jobs evaporate overnight, are tired of seeing their value at the workplace shrink, and are hoping to get something that has stability (ie: a contracted role). And Germany feels friendlier to them for reasons.

So is that the reason for the worker shortage in Germany? They all went to the USA?

Why can't you all invite people from Africa and the middle east? They would benefit more from moving there than Americans.

Americans barely learn English, their native language. Adding a second language with additional letters and punctuation seems insurmountable.
TheDarkmoore@reddit (OP)
That...sounds kinda sad and poor to be honest 🤔
capndiln@reddit
There are a lot of sad and poor people in america. Of course america is not the only country with a lot of sad and poor people. There are plenty of billionares and well-medicated people too.
crashingtingler@reddit
well medicated people? what the f is that supposed to mean

I get the stereotype, and yes its accurate to a degree. But please hear me out. My comment is not going to be very grammatically setup correctly not because i dont know how to, but because frankly its not necessary atm. For a job email i am perfectly capable of precise grammar and formatting.
In my opinion it is far overblown, and the nuance of it is misunderstood. In many cities we speak multiple languages. Or english fluently (weird joke of yours btw) plus a splattering of tons of other languages, because its difficult to find one second language to focus on. (Spanish usually being the first choice tho).
So many ‘dumbfuck’ ‘english only’ American workers learn spanish through osmosis, or a bit of french or italian or chinese or german or etc or all at once depending where/what they work.
I get where the stereotype comes from,
There is factually little to no imperative to learn a second language outside of english if you are in the states. If theres no imperative, theres no drive. BUT WHEN THERE IS… AMERICANS STEP UP TO IT. even the most racist backwards white guys, i see em’ learn Spanish to talk with latino workers. Or hindu, or chinese, (even tho its wildly difficult!) even seen german.
Many Americans are fascinated with learning a second language outside English but its not as easy when you cant immerse yourself in it the same way as a location with nearby language diversity like europe or elsewhere. Cross a border and you drive through 3 different languages.
When Americans get the chance, they get excited to. When Americans practice overseas, everyone just swaps to english out of ether annoyance, ease, or excitement to practice their english. (Witnessed all of this, some exceptions).
Don’t count us out just yet. Im on a trip to europe right now and my friends are figuring out which second language they each want to learn first. Me, im nearly fluent in italian, then going to Spanish. One friend is going to Spanish because of how useful it is at home, plus traveling in europe too. And then that helps with learning Italian. Another already started german because they travel and work into berlin a lot and dont want to expect everyone to have to conform to english for them. The last one is looking at catalan because a) its beautiful. B) they love Barcelona and surrounding area c) taking catalan language classes can help you get residency in Barcelona.
Each of these friends are making an effort to learn the local language out of ease and respect. But because there is actually a reason to, and a way to practice when they travel.
Also the ‘theyre not even fluent in english’ bro, thats a classic xenophobic bull type comment. We each speak our local style, and those who learn a second language famously learn it more strictly an formally than native speakers regardless of the language chosen.

If you’re over 45 and working in Germany for the first time, you must earn at least €55,770 gross annually (as of 2026) or prove adequate pension provision
Comfortable_Hat_6354@reddit
Well ... nobody who is net-contributing would go to germany. They can make double the money in america.
