Replace people's surnames with "home country-hometown" string

Surnames came from aristocrats, who were often more or less known for their family lineage, while commoners used to lack surnames. "Do you know whose son I am?!" an angry young boy from a noble family might have shouted.
Now commoners have surnames too, but outside of a few rich/famous/powerful families, your surname is not very useful. In other words, we have surnames, but they are largely useless.
IMHO, it would be more helpful if instead of surnames we used a "home country+home city" string. For example, a girl named Misaki, who lives in France's capital city, would be called "Misaki France-Paris". Then you wouldn't be surpised to learn that she can't speak one word of Japanese, but is fluent in French

Dude. My last name is the name of the tiny farm my ancestors had, hundreds of years ago. Lots and lots of people have basically this already, just not the country.

Do you still live on the farm? If no, then your surname would be updated to your current location

So I have to change my name every time I move, and everyone in every town has the same name?
HimikoTogaFromUSSR@reddit (OP)
Every time you change your city or country of permanent residence

In about 3 months I will have lived in 4 cities within 3 years. Not worth the hassle

Then I suggest we all get "of" in our names. Demmy of Karlstad.

Yes, this can work too

Commoners had surnames, even way back.
It was a way of differentiating people with the same first name.
Nobility then started caring about bloodline

Ironically your proposed system would probably increase tribalism too. People would immediately categorize others by location and nationality
