Ben Gvir posts video of himself taunting bound and detained Gaza flotilla activists, sparks global outcry - Clip shows minister waving Israeli flag as activists forced to kneel on ground and national anthem blasts over loudspeaker; Italy, France summon Israeli envoys over treatment of their citizens

There are 11 Canadians in Ben Gvir’s gulag right now, so far the Canadian government hasn’t said a peep. France and Italy have summoned their Israeli ambassador, the Canadians are probably apologizing to the Israeli ambassador for the nuisance.
kolitics@reddit
Just nuisance things like attempting to breaching the blockade of a nation at war to supply a terrorist organization.
kugelamarant@reddit
Do they carry guns or bomb? Are they afraid of baby formula?
kolitics@reddit
They are afraid of materials that look like baby formula being smuggled in baby formula. So yes they are afraid of ships carrying "baby formula" running their blockade.
ilimlidevrimci@reddit
Lol do you seriously believe that? Didn't they confiscate/search everything already? Where are these imaginary materials that look like baby formula? Why haven't we heard a peep about them all this time?
kolitics@reddit
Yes, I am a chemist.
ilimlidevrimci@reddit
So Israel can't tell baby formula and those materials apart? I mean they are evil but not dumb.
kolitics@reddit
correct
Paradoxjjw@reddit
You're not a chemist
voidox@reddit
lol ya, reminds me of the israel defenders who "duh I graduated law school and what Israel did not illegal!"
IlluminatedPickle@reddit
You must be a really terrible chemist.
kolitics@reddit
Probably, but that’s all you need to be to figure out how to circumvent detection here even with extensive testing on every container.
ilimlidevrimci@reddit
Cool story bro.
Killeroftanks@reddit
Ya which is why Israel banned sugar before the war from crossing over.
Wait no they didn't van sugar, they banned cookies containing sugar because Israel knew they couldn't actually make cookies themselves, because they banned the other ingredients.
It's almost like the shit you're saying isn't actually what Israel is doing and instead is trying to make life as hard as possible so they can mow the lawn when the grass gets uppity.
Stubbs94@reddit
They confiscated baby formula and aspirin from volunteer doctors trying to enter Gaza.
4g-identity@reddit
For years now, Israel has been taking baby formula out of the suitcases of doctors who have been granted permission to treat the wounded in Gaza. Many are well known surgeons from top Western hospitals. They literally fill their suitcases with stuff they know is needed to prevent loss of life. Formula is a big part of that, since a lot of young mothers in Gaza are too malnourished to produce milk.
You actually think these doctors are smuggling in explosives for Hamas? Their careers as medical professionals, often decades long, are actually all just cover for their desire to do terrorism?
Do you not see how absurd these narratives are?
IAMADon@reddit
So everyone in Gaza, including the babies being supplied with baby formula, is a terrorist?
At least you finally dropped the faux concern and let your true Nazi self shine bright.
kolitics@reddit
"Not everyone we are trying to supply is a terrorist"
Stubbs94@reddit
Zionists honestly believe that to be the case.
Stubbs94@reddit
We get it, you support rapists and child murderers.
Maximum-Hall-5614@reddit
There were no intentions of the Flotilla supplying the IOF so what are you on about mate

"Canada, France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands summon Israeli envoys to protest flotilla video"
murd3rsaurus@reddit
some people would rather be angry than informed, I'm glad it's not just me chirping them lol
pjjmd@reddit
'Summoning the ambassador' is meaningless. Canada has 'summoned the ambasador' a half dozen times in the last few years. When they killed Canadian citizens in Lebanon, when they killed our citizens who were aid workers in gaza, when they fired at members of parliament who were visiting the west bank, when they destroyed the water purification centre we built in gaza, when they bulldozed the cemetery containing our war dead from the second world war.
We refuse to cancel trade with them. We refuse to stop shipping them weapons. You can only 'summon the ambassador' so many times before it becomes meaningless.
voidox@reddit
yup, it's all just talk and "summoning the ambassador" literally means nothing at all ever in history.
when all these same countries refuse to stop trading with Israel, place no sanctions even and continue supporting Israel behind the scenes it means nothing at all to talk, also imagine doing this performative bs over this video while not even being able to do this about the genocide, that's how fcked these politicians are.
2dudesinapod@reddit
They hadn’t said a word when I posted that comment. I guess they were waiting for Netanyahu himself to condemn it first.
Ambiwlans@reddit
To be fair, the original article didn't mention Canada. I'm guessing the news about Canada came out a few minutes after the article.
Elendel19@reddit
Carney announced it two hours ago, the original comment is from 4 hours ago
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
Canadian government doesn't have sympathy for Terrorist supporters or the Israeli government.
Welcome to the world where multiple things exist at oncw
HalayChekenKovboy@reddit
"Terrorist supporters" and it's people bringing food to a country under inhumane blockade
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
the blockade is legal as per international law.

why don't you worry about turkey voting to claim more of the Aegean sea illegally to drive further conflict with greece and Cyprus.
Fearless-Feature-830@reddit
Funny you mention terrorism as Ben Gvir has been charged and convicted of terrorism and not a peep from you about that
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
yes he is and he should be in prison with all of the October 7 Terrorists as is the general consensus amongst israelis under the age of 50 same for smotrich and netenyahu.
not sure what answer you were looking for but do i have to remind you of the 40+ consecutive weeks of protests in Israel that were for the purpose of judicial reform and the removal of those three specifically? protests which spanned the entire length of israel every Saturday for 40+ consecutive weeks?
I understand it's hard to have an education on something when your education on the matter is only via tiktok instagram reddit and Twitter and is less than 3 years in length part time of course and only in English.
so I don't blame you for ignorance
Prosthemadera@reddit
Most Israelis under 50 believe Netanyahu should be in prison? What is this based on?
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
You're so ignorant of anything to do with israel that doesn't pertain to gaza why do you even try discussing things if you don't actually care? Learn hebrew and read the news then get back to me. otherwise you'll just keep sounding like right wing media outlets and sneako
Maximum-Hall-5614@reddit
Let’s talk about Israel’s domestic matters then.
Why is there a 100% reported sexual assault rate of migrant domestic workers in Israel?
Why do more than 3/4 of Israeli Jewish people support the total expulsion of all non-Jews from their side of the Green Line, which makes up at least 20% of Israel’s official citizenship?
Why did Israelis re-elect Netanyahu whilst he was actively on trial for crimes?
Why does Israel arrest children for acknowledging that Palestinian children are suffering?
All these are internal domestic matters, no?
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
I have no interest in talking about any countries domestic matters with people who don't vote instead, country or live there
your_red_triangle@reddit
then why are you even here spreading Hasbara propaganda.
Prosthemadera@reddit
What? Asking you clarifying questions about your comments makes me sound like a right winger?
How would that answer my questions about YOUR comment? I am not asking about Israel news. I am asking about YOU! How is that so difficult? It's so simple.
Fearless-Feature-830@reddit

Prosthemadera@reddit
What law specifically?
Are the Canadians Israel is holding sanctioned? No so what you said is irrelevant.
If you want to talk about that then go find a thread. This thread is about Israel.
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
i specifically said the organizers? how did you interpret that as me saying specifically the people arrested?
Prosthemadera@reddit
I know you said that. But this thread isn't about the organizers so it's irrelevant.
You arrest people based on their OWN actions. Not based on the actions of someone else.
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
if you are sitting for lunch with 10 people, and an 11th person who is a nazi comes to join you, and you don't ask them to leave or leave yourself. you are sitting at a table with 11 nazis
GianfrancoZoey@reddit
What about if you put a Nazi in government? What does that make the rest of the country?
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
inversion
Maximum-Hall-5614@reddit
You can’t copy the Nazi playbook word for word then cry “inversion!!!” Every time we point that out.
We were all taught about the Holocaust in schools. My school spent 3 months on the subject. Mind you, we only learnt about Jewish suffering. Nothing about the disabled, the Slavs, the Romani… even though we had a Romani student our class and no Jewish kids. As a class full of Asians, we didn’t understand why we spent 3 months discussing a wholly European event. Our history teacher explained why, very simply:
We learn about the Holocaust so that we can identify that warning signs and prevent it from happening again. Never again, for anyone.
Unfortunately, Zionists took a different lesson. You decided that since Jewish people suffered massively from the Holocaust, that Jewish people couldn’t possibly perpetrate a Holocaust on anyone else.
Never mind, it only took two years for Zionists to emulate the Nazis and the first colonizers of America. But of course, if we point out the direct parallels, it’s “inversion!1!”
Get bent, fascist pig.
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
too much to read.

Keep trying to convince the world that a rogue terrorist state that has “Jewish-only Roads” and enshrined into their “Basic Laws” that all non-Jews are lesser citizens than Jews, is somehow not an apartheid state.
That’s not even going into the fact that Israel was apartheid South Africa’s strongest ally.
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
also you have no idea what you're talking about israel is the Jewish state. it's not a state only for Jews and you won't find one educated person there who agrees with you
Maximum-Hall-5614@reddit
“The right to exercise national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people.”
Israel’s Basic Law 2018, Section 1C
This means non-Jews do not have the right to self-determination in “Israel”
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
it also has arab only roads lol. they wouldn't need either if Terrorists didn't throw cinder blocks onto the roads from above
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
Under the San Remo Manual Israel follows all the guidelines and applies their blockade impartially to all vessels attempting to reach Gaza.
Prosthemadera@reddit
Where in that manual does it say that countries can abduct foreign nationals from international waters?
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
declaring intent with a track record of attempting to break a military blockade is grounds for arrest and deportation back to their home countries as shown by the past 2 floatillas where everybody was deported after everything was processed.
everything else is a show by the demonstrators. like greta holding her hands behind her back when they were uncuffed for news media
4g-identity@reddit
Are you this passionate about international law when it comes to the question of West Bank settlements? Or is that where the "UN is biased against Israel" trope comes out?
Under Geneva Conventions, occupier is supposed to protect the occupied population. And yet, of the last 1100+ Israelis who killed Palestinians in the West Bank, zero received a prison sentence. Six years now since a prison sentence has been handed down; hundreds of the dead are women and children. So, Israel is violating international law there, yeah? You condemn that?

I love how Zionists come in to these types of threads and remove any doubt about being ghoulishly evil with justifying this.
Keep going please. That 740 million a year sure isn't working.
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
743mn is 0.1% of israels 719 billion yearly gdp.
literally Israelis are begging the government to stop collaboration with the US because it's costing Israel more than its worth. all the benefit is to America in the form of influence over military actions Israel takes and where they buy weapons from with the credits given to Israel (which is the 743mn you mentioned)
you're also Swedish 😂 sweden has 0 impact on anything in the middle east, it hardly has impact on goings on in sweden.
Khers@reddit
You don't even understand that budget and gdp isn't the same thing.
And they were running on a deficit last year. Holy shit Zionists are stupid.
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
Fair point on budget vs GDP, I’ll take that. But that doesn't change that the relationship costs Israel more in sovereignty and political constraints than the aid is worth to Israel as a country which is the actual argument you ignored.
Khers@reddit
Your argument is nonsensical because without your US sugardaddy you'd be nothing. And considering your argument was based on complete lack of knowledge I don't understand why you think I should take you seriously.
But keep showing us what Zionists are, I truly appreciate it.
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
The budget point difference I already conceded to you, but notice you’ve completely disregarded the actual argument: that the political constraints and sovereignty costs of the US relationship with Israel outweighs the aid value to Israel. Instead you just repeated ‘budget vs GDP’ as if winning on a technicality is the same as making a educated response.
Also, Israel ran a deficit because of wartime spending.....during a war, that’s vastly different from US aid being what keeps the economy afloat, which is what you’re saying with your comments. 743mn against a 719bn GDP economy is 0.1%. The ‘sugar daddy’ framing doesn’t really survive with the numbers you’re apparently too busy ignoring to look up
Khers@reddit
This is a delusional but you're free to believe it.
Now imagine how much genocide and unjust wars would cost without your sugardaddy.
Man it's like you can't connect 2 and 2.

Funny how retaliating against Israeli aggression is a “random attack” but Israel murdering hundreds of civilians a day with thermobaric weapons are all “precision strikes”
ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
retaliation for what?
Maximum-Hall-5614@reddit
Against Israeli aggression.
During the “ceasefires” with Gaza and Lebanon, Israel has violated both at least once a day, with Lebanon averaging about 3-4 violations per day.

ZuluIsNumberOne@reddit
I can't explain things as well in English. so if your attempt at educating yourself on the matter is begging a Redditor who you don't know, to explain their understanding of things then you clearly dont care enough to learn about something you claim otherwise.

Thw only reason why the world stepped in to stop Hitler was out of fear of being taken over. If Germany stopped at Poland they would have probably still been active. Everyone stepped in once the scales of balance of powers started to tip.

Oh man this sentence is misleading. The 2010 flotilla was an attempt to deliver aid. When the IDF stopped them and boarded, a few of the passengers resisted with improvised weapons (kitchen knives, bits of metal pipe). The result was 10 of the passengers died when the IDF opened fire on the passengers. 0 IDF died.
Calling it a deadly flotilla deserving of terrorist designation is crazy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Gaza_flotilla_raid
meister2983@reddit
Where does it say they are deserving of a terrorist designation? It simply states that Israel has declared them as a terrorist organization.
IlluminatedPickle@reddit
Lets not forget to point out the gunshot wounds to the back of the head, execution style.
SpontaneousFlame@reddit
At the time there were accusations that the IDF had a kill list and that some of the flotilla members were designated to be killed by the IDF no matter what they or the flotilla did. The UN investigation confirmed that.
After the murders the IDF was meticulous in destroying all the evidence - all bullets and shrapnel were removed from the bodies, the bodies were washed and the ships were even repainted to remove any indication of how much firepower Israel employed.
We know that the IDF decided to attack that flotilla in the middle of the night and opened fire before they even landed on the deck. It was all premeditated killing by the world’s most immoral army.
Ambiwlans@reddit
I wish any of this were surprising.
Zosimas@reddit
jfc. misleading is putting it lightly
Pklnt@reddit
Absolutely insane, normally states try to maintain a certain veneer of respectability but here it's just nowhere, a minister is literally being filmed and he's proud of showing how depraved he is.
If any other state in the Middle-East did this to Westerners on a humanitarian mission, said state would have been sanctioned to hell or simply bombed to force a regime change.
But here it's just weak words and nothing, then we'll act surprised when the people that are constantly oppressed by this terrorist state are going to lash out violently.
azure_beauty@reddit
Israel did try to be professional, treated the detainees well, and sent them off on the first flight, which is the most they could do while enforcing the blockade which under international law requires all ships to be intercepted.
Unfortunately Ben Gvir doesn't care about international standing or human rights, so now that he has an election campaign to run, he is going to abuse his powers over the police to hurt thousands (Israelis and Palestinians alike), silence the opposition, and ruin Israel's international standing just to gain a few more votes from extremists.
I am not saying this to defend Israel, this is genuinely disgusting. Please, to western countries, be careful, and punish extremistm. Because all these is defending democracy from authoritarianism is people willing to punish extremism—remove that, and you get the direction in which Israel is heading right now.
macaroni_chacarroni@reddit
Ben-Gvir represents the majority of Israelis. 82% of Jewish Israelis support ethnic cleansing, 54% support genocide, 90% support the illegal war of aggression against Iran. Your society is rotten.
azure_beauty@reddit
If that is the case, how come he doesn't get 50% of the vote?
macaroni_chacarroni@reddit
Because Israel has a parliamentary system where the votes are spread thin. It's not like in the US where you only choose between two people and whomever hits 50% is the ultimate winner. So you can't use the "50%" metric to gauge the popularity or approval of a politician's conduct. If you put Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir, Smotrich, Kahane, Maoz, and Chikli together, you get majority of Israel. All these people are despicable and they, for the most part, agree with each other.
Did you really think you're gonna slip this one past me? The audacity and shamelessness on you Israelis.. truly unbelievable.
azure_beauty@reddit
I mean it's undeniable that the extremist sect in Israeli society is growing, but Ben Gvir had to team up with smotrich to even pass the electoral threshold and his party currently has six seats—that is less seats than Arab parties who ideally would like to abolish Israel's nature as a Jewish state.
If he and Smotrich truly represent Israel, how come their parties combined only got 10% of the vote? Be for real.
As for the statistics you cite, that has literally no basis in reality and anyone who knows Israelis understands that. Not sure why you insist on parroting those fake numbers.
macaroni_chacarroni@reddit
I'm repeating the statistics because you're intentionally ignoring them. Unfortunately for you, ignoring reality doesn't change it. At some point, you have to wake up to the fact that you're defending a society made up of a majority that holds horrible beliefs. You are in a cult and you don't even realise it.
Here are the polls on the 82% support for ethnic cleansing, and half support for genocide, and overwhelming majority support for illegal war

The more you continue spreading those fake statistics, the easier you make it for us to see that you don't know how to distinguish truth from propaganda.
Tornupto48@reddit
Where? Lol
If you would replace Ben Gvir with Israel then you would be correct. Israel doesn't care about human rights. They only care about how they look like infront of the world. Ben Gvir is only transparent in showing that ugliness
Name me how Israelis are substantially hurt by Ben Gvir policy that you have to mention them next to palestinians. This bothsidism is so unnecessary. Palestinians are the only one suffering and Israel has ruined it's standing not via Ben gvir but by having his ugliness in general exposed to the entire world. Ben Gvir is not the problem, the entirety of Israel is.
What you're talking about here is just the end result of Zionism. Ethnic supremacy leads to an decay of any democratic structure. Israel is no exception. Ben Gvir represents Zionism in its purest form. Until Zionism remains unreformed or replaced by something else, it will only get worse.
Antisemitism accusation in 3, 2, 1...
azure_beauty@reddit
Israel had Sayeret Mitkal forces accompany the navy to document the interception, to demonstrate good treatment of the detainees and debunk their lies of being abused. The foreign ministry did not allow that footage to be released, but we have no evidence of any claimed abuse prior to today, to the best of our knowledge the detainees were treated with outmost respect that was frankly undeserved.
What does "Israel" mean to you? Yes, the government is complicit in that it needs Ben Gvir for a coalition, and looks the other way when he commits his crimes. The opposition does not share those views, however.
Look up Naor Narkis, and the police shutting down his legitimate political events on behalf of the religious right.
Look up cases like this where random Israelis get killed because the police are too busy chasing down left wing activists to enforce the law. Or look at cases like this where businesses are being extorted and firebombed, while the police do nothing to crack down on the crime, where the mafia runs large parts of the north and the south of the country, meanwhile Ben Gvir is too busy with his publicity stunts.
Look at Israeli citizens getting their kippah cut by the Police, while nearly a person a day is killed in Arab intracommunity violence.
Ben gvir exploits his position as head of the police to access prisoners and abuse them for propaganda, meanwhile hundreds of Israelis are dying every year due to violent crime, but clearly that is not as important as shutting down left wing political events. Have I said enough?
Zionism has nothing to do with ethnic supremacy. How can you possibly argue Ben gvir is the true form of Zionism, when for the first decades of its existence Israel was run by the left wing labor parties of enlightened European liberalist beliefs, and Ben Gvir represents the uneducated hateful middle eastern approach to conflict that European Jews thought to be better than?
Tornupto48@reddit
Yeah... Forgive me for not believing whatever force you mentioned here and instead trusting the footage of flotilla prisoners being treated like Guantanamo inmates.
Footage from your lovely Minister of Security, Itamar Ben Gvir:
https://x.com/i/status/2057046925417824697
Israel is a democracy. At least that's what people like you telling me. So in a democracy there is something called elections. People vote in an elections and based on these results a government is formed. And the government that is now in power is based on how the people voted in this election.
So clearly this is the responsibility of all Israelis.
Unfortunate... I'm aware of Naor narkis. His motivations though are not really in line with what I think should be actually priority.
"Yes, force Haredim into a murdering, pillaging military force full of racist, rapist war criminals"
Uhm yeah... No thanks. The IDF is already bad as it is. I don't wanna have it turned from an Kosher SS Brigade into a Halakha ISIS.
That's very sad.
Now imagine that this is something a palestinian has to experience throughout his life. And long before Ben gvir came to power!
Atleast you might now get how palestinians feel and what they had gone through for more than 70 years because of you.
Who are these people being killed? Are they Jews? Non Jews? If they are non Jews than this is just the natural consequences of Zionism, in which Jewish Supremacy and ethno centrism is core part of it. Non Jewish life's just simply don't matter for people like Ben Gvir.
And a majority of Israelis agree
Long before Ben Gvir
https://www.timesofisrael.com/plurality-of-jewish-israelis-want-to-expel-arabs-study-shows/
You accidentally answered your question.
Yes, before the Yom Kippur war, Israel was ruled by predominantly left wing labour party with enlightenend European liberalist beliefs. That was all true. FOR JEWS! For non Jews on the other hand it was the complete opposite:
For Non Jews like Palestinian arabs, it meant ethnic cleansing, internal displacement, military curfews, limitations on movement, land expropriation, massacres ( like the Kfar Qassim massacre of 1956 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kafr_Qasim_massacre) and overall marginalisation.
So basically, not very different from what happened in Rhodesia.
Human rights and liberalism for us but not for them.
It was also the left wing government that made room for the later west bank settlement movement and therefore giving birth of the movement Ben gvir is part of today
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allon_Plan
And nothing has changed since then.
So yes, maybe for you there is a difference. For Palestinians and for outsiders like me tho there is no difference.
They all have ethnic supremacy as their goal.
This is Zionism.
"זה מדינהיהודית"
Israel is also officially an ethno state since 2018 so that no one makes a mistake of not calling it otherwise

I see that youre a cool guy actually (although I will not hold my breath. I have been disappointed a lot by Israelis afterwards) but realize that what your country is experiencing today is more than just the result of one man or a government. It's not a bug, it's a feature
azure_beauty@reddit
The footage you cite is the Ben Gvir incident. What I refer to in my my comment is their treatment prior to Ben Gvir's involvement. I very clearly stated that I disapprove of what he did, but you are not responding to the actual contents of my comment, how is a conversation to be held?
How is it s responsibility of all Israelis when a tiny percentage voted for Ben Gvir's party, and only a little more than half of the voters voted for the coalition? (Which includes Haredi parties that vote on the basis of who tolerates their parasitic lifestyle the most). How is it the fault of the opposition?
The IDF has manpower shortages. Getting rid of those shortages would absolutely help give more lenience for the state to prosecute war crimes without worrying about filling empty positions. Plus that's not the point, the point is that Ben Gvir is utilizing the police to shut down internal opposition. That is not acceptable, regardless of the victims' views.
I mentioned Palestinians in my initial comment. You asked me why I also included Israelis in my comment, so I elaborated on the Israeli victims. Now you complain that I focus on the Israeli side. Do you hear yourself?
Both. A lot of the violence is Arab-on-Arab violence. They are still Israeli citizens, it is still the state's responsibility to protect them, regardless of ethnic identity or religious beliefs. That's the law.
Israel wasn't in a position to be particularly lenient towards the Arabs who, to further hurt their cause, constantly sought to destroy Israel. For Israel, to have peave you must enforce it through strength. Given Israel's weakness at the time, it is unsurprising that you had far more violent incidents, even when the government knew that they were wrong (the Kafr Qasim massacre was widely recognized as wrong even by the ruling elite at the time, but enforcing serious penalties would have risked weakening the state at a time when weakness could not be permitted).
You're missing a space in there, just a reflection of how you don't speak Hebrew and attempt to cite it without knowing what you're actually saying. Anyway, the declaration of independence and Israeli basic law defines it as a Jewish and democratic state. I see no problems with that, Armenia is am Armenian and democratic state, Japan is a Japanese and democratic state. That's how nation states work, minorities have rights too despite Israel being a Jewish state.
Tornupto48@reddit
This is the footage before ben gvirs arrival. Nope same abuse. Wasn't Ben gvirs fault. That's just how the IDf does things. Someone can only imagine how it looks like when cameras are of. The nyt made an article about the IDF unhealthy habit of abusing Palestinian prisoners.
https://x.com/i/status/2057056208100467126
That's how democracy works. If this coalition really wasn't wished by the Israeli people we would've not seen the votes being enough for it to form.
Also did yk that 20% of Israeli soldiers voted for Ben Gvirs party in the last election? I certainly didn't. Would be interesting to know how many of them voted for smotrich as well. Maybe another 20%? Who knows. They certainly act like Ben gvirs
Finally some good news
So far the opposite has only happened. And I don't see how it's going to end up any better once you start enlisting unmotivated haredim that don't want to serve at all. You know what could actually lessen the amount of war crimes? Having Arabs in the military. Yeah I'm not kidding.
The only thing I'm seeing is you justifying it saying that the soldiers or police actually did an awesome job and that things only went downhill when Ben gvir came. You guys seem to like to use him as a scapegoat.
No I'm listening correctly. I made it clear: the suffering between Israelis and Palestinians is incomparable. Not only do Palestinians more, they suffer differently. Just as an example: Where there white south Africans that suffered under the apartheid regime as a result for their anti apartheid advocacy and activism? Absolutely. But it would be insane to compare their suffering to that of black south Africans no? The context and power imbalance is important
You've talked about law here. But we see how Israel respects the law in practice when it has to be applied in a way that benefits non Jews. Then the law becomes a recommendation, a preference. A NSDAP member once said: "Law is what serves the race." That's what's going on her.
"Sry man. We had to massacre, displace and mistreat those Arabs, erase their villages, expropriate their land, put them under 2 decades of military curfew and deny them basic human rights because they dared to... be against them becoming 2nd Class people in their own homeland"
Unfortunate really. My sympathies 🥺
Oh awesome. Well any apologies from the side of the government at that time or today? Any compensation? If not land wise at least financial? No? Hm... Well doesn't seem they regret it that much then. In the end these were just Arabs amirite?
Ik vere well what it means since I get this one very often whenever I'm talking to Israeli Jews like you when it comes to just treating Palestinians with Israeli citizenship with a little bit of more dignity. It's just has the same message to when US southerners were talking about their white states during Jim Crow.
It really means just that
Ofc you don't because you're not an non jew.
Even druze to this day have a problem with this law. This should tell you how problematic this is
Go ahead then and ask Chatgpt or claude if Japan or Armenia have an equivalent of Israels nation state law then. I'm ready for the results. Because those two nations as far as I know have not such a law. They both are civic nation states by law. Not ethno states like israel
That's how ethnocracies work maybe. But certainly not democracies
And we can see that beautiful done in practice by Israel screwing up basically everyone who is not a Jew.
If these are minority rights then idk why the hell we did what we did to south Africa to end apartheid or why we forced Rhodesia to disappear or why there was pressure on the US south to get rid of Jim Crow.
azure_beauty@reddit
This is just a video of someone being arrested by the military. Am I supposed to be upset?
There was 70% turnout. Of those, 14% voted for Haredi parties (which sit with the left and the right alike), 23.5% voted for Likud, which whole right wing certainly is not as extreme as Ben Gvir's party, and only 10% voted for the RZP-Otzma Yehudit merger.
So basically, you have 10% of people voting for extremists, and you claim that is representative of all of Israel. But it is not.
I do not know those statistics, no. Would be more than happy if you dropped a link. Anyway, once again shows how much you know, because Ben Gvir and Smotrich ran as a merger, you physically could not vote for one but not the other.
Good news if you like seeing Arabs bombed because Israel doesn't have the manpower to go boots on the ground and destroy terror infrastructure while sparing the rest. I don't mind that because less Israeli lives are risked, but I don't think hurting Arabs is a positive, and decreasing manpower constraints ultimately helps Arab civilians more than it does us.
So far there are very much shortages, how can you say the opposite happened when I am talking about a hypothetical?
You think we should conscript Arabs but not the Haredim?
Yes because that's when it went from a routine arrest operation to them being randomly abused for a propaganda shoot for Ben Gvir's election campaign.
I feel sorry for you that you feel the need to always compare suffering. I am able to recognize that others are suffering even though the 7/10 attacks affected me more than a million bombs dropped on Gaza would. I hope one day you can feel sympathy for others too.
That's exactly my point in criticizing Ben Gvir? He doesn't follow the law and doesn't believe in what makes Israel so great.
Certainly, a formal apology was issued by Shimon Peres in 2007.
You have Israeli Jews randomly telling you "a Jewishcountry" in Hebrew? Please, if you can find any of of those comments do not be shy to link them, I am fascinated, I'm totally serious.
Well I'm currently arguing that we should do more to address violent crime hurting the Arab community in Israel, whereas you're telling me that actually their suffering doesn't matter in the face of non-israeli Palestinians.
What law, the declaration of independence? I assume you reference the nation state law, but "Israel as a Jewish state" is not a new concept at all, and it doesn't mean minorities do not have a place in there. The nation state law does not have a monopoly on that concept.
Were there black south Africans serving on the supreme court? Was a black person during Jim Crow able to wake up in the same apartment as a white man with whom he's sharing a flat, get on a bus together, and ride to work at a bar serving blacks and whites alike?
Perhaps after all, Israel is not apartheid south Africa ot Jim Crow USA.
Tornupto48@reddit
They way they are arrested looks like it's coming straight from Guantanamo. But glad that we cleared this up. Your problem is not how they got arrested or even the footage in general but that Ben gvir was there. That's all. If you represent the average opposition supporting Israel then I do not expect to see any great changes from Ben gvirs policy. It's only gonna get worse
You can draw it up as much as you like it doesn't change the fact that a majority of Israelis vote for this government. They got the 61 seats in order to govern. The fact that the turnout was 70% only proves my point further. That a lot of Israelis wished for a extremist government in 2022. Now they got what they wanted.
Well not like they actually protecting Arabs anyway since the state isn't even bothered building bombing shelters for them.
https://www.arabnews.com/node/2636430/middle-east
Also far more Arabs have been killed by the hands of the IDF than by the hands of Palestinian or Lebanese militia groups. If I were arab I would certainly know who the real threat is: you.
And the more shortages, the less Palestinians have to suffer. I'm glad for that
I think if the goal is to have less war criminals in the IDF then yes, conscripting Arabs is actually a good thing and a real benefit for the whole country. This would maybe turn the IDF into a military that actually protects all citizens and people. Not an occupation army that does nothing but killing, massacring, pillaging or raping non Jews. Non Jews in the army would bring the perspective of non jews more into focus and consideration.
You literally just said in the beginning that the abuse is fine so very likely this abuse would've happened anyway but without ben gvir. You only concerned because it got out to the world and that this footage exposed you as the evil fvcks that you are. Instead of actually stopping the abuse, you concerned that Ben gvir made that footage. And then you wonder why people hate you...
Congrats. Feel for the people of October 7th. But the context does not change:
Palestinians and Israelis suffer for different reasons. And therefore their suffering is not equal.
Ben Gvir did what many Israeli officials from him also did: not following the law when it has tobe applied to non Jews. Than it's a recommendation, not a law as I said before. And again, what laws did he break? That he filmed it? Is that illegal in Israel? Because if I have to judge by what you're saying, abusing prisoners is not illegal in Israel.
Awesome. Was there compensation given to them?
Did I say telling me? I see this on twitter and other platforms. That whenever an arab criticize mistreatment by the state or people that he has to basically suck it up because it's a state for Jews. And state for Jews means a state that is not for him being that they are non Jews. We can see that not just be said online but also in practice:
Bedouin towns are regularly demolished for being "illegal" just so that Jewish settlement can be convenient place there. In an actual country that cares for minority rights, towns like umm Al hiran would've been legalized. That is being done to jewish outpost in the west Bank as well. Instead they get demolished. Complain about that? "It's a Jewish state"
https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/police-complete-demolition-of-unrecognized-bedouin-village-umm-al-hiran/
Twisting my words won't change what I said: that Palestinians, both Israeli citizens and non citizens, are treated like trash and that Zionism, not Ben gvir, is to blame for it. Arab crime is not the cause, it's a symptom
Again, you can tell that to the druze that to this day are pissed about this law. Again you coming from a Jewish perspective and therefore you are ignorant about what other people think about this. Not that I'm surprised.
https://www.jewishfederations.org/blog/all/druze-led-rally-against-nation-state-law-in-tel-aviv-draws-at-least-50000
Well certainly not there but in the Jim Crow southern state of South Carolina, Macon Bolling Allen was one over there. There were dozens of black justices in the Jim Crow south back then and even policy makers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macon_Bolling_Allen
Most likely yeah, unlike in Israel, we're Jewish sundown towns are common
https://www.adalah.org/en/content/view/8327
https://forward.com/news/339338/israeli-judge-says-no-to-arabs-building-in-jewish-town-cites-bidding-woes/
blacks were serving whites in apartheid south Africa in bars, hotels and restaurants while this was not allowed in the Jim Crow south of the US. So does that mean blacks were more equal in south Africa than blacks in the southern US under Jim Crow? I don't think so. I hope you think so too.
A comparison doesn't need to be 1 to 1 the same to the other. There can be differences. It's about when the similarities are far more apparent than the differences.
Also for the fact that Israel has a different system for each arab depending on whether he has citizenship or not. Non Jews with citizenship have better conditions than Non Jews without one in Israel but they still face indirect or even direct discrimination by law, society, security forces and politics. That is kinda similar to how blacks were treated up the US North before the civil rights act. Better than the south and somewhat equal by law but still not fully equal in practice. It's a mixture of that and a few Jim Crow like laws such as the Committee laws for Jewish towns. Non Jews without citizenship on the other hand (meaning Palestinians but also Armenians and others) have go through a system that reminds many people of what we saw in apartheid south Africa or Rhodesia.

Your prison camp guards raped and tortured prior activists whose vessels were illegally attacked and boarded by your terrorist militants. They can only board a ship within waters that are legally recognized as Israeli waters. This was not upheld by your terrorists.
Your entire purpose on this website is to defend Israel and justify its actions, by pretending this is the fault of one individual when we all know there is a culture of dehumanizing opponents of Israeli aggression.
azure_beauty@reddit
This is false, when a vessel announces the intention of breaking a blockade and ignores warnings to turn back, the blockading party has the legal authority to intercept ships prior to their arrival in the blockaded zone.
Again, you can absolutely criticize mistreatment of detainees without denying international law and reality alike
ChillAhriman@reddit
From your very own link:
This article is just propaganda to justify the unilateral breach of international law when it comes to international waters by the US and Israel. No, your country's assaults against humanitarian missions on international waters are not legal. Stop defending state-sanctioned piracy. I hope you don't wonder why people hate your country.
azure_beauty@reddit
International law is fake, everyone does what they want. If you want actual laws, this is the closest to Internationally accepted norms that you get.
There is no legal right under international law for someone to break a naval blockade. It doesn't exist. Their yachts are also not a humanitarian mission in any capacity.

They've been doing this to every flotilla activist for years and much worse to Palestinians. Absolutely nobody was treated with dignity or "professionalism" by your despicable "government".
azure_beauty@reddit
This is the first time that Ben Gvir is directly involved in the process, and the first time that he uses them for political propaganda, past flotilla participants were treated with immense amounts of care, so were these prior to Ben Gvir's intervention.
Hard to claim this has happened to every flotilla, when members of the last flotilla were dropped off in Greece without ever arriving in Israel.

Call_Me_Clark@reddit
What are the odds that the Israeli people demand that Ben-Gvir be removed from office? Coalition or not, surely some things must matter more than politics.
azure_beauty@reddit
The majority of people did not vote for him, the majority do not want him, be it people like me who believe that what he does is immoral, or those who simply recognize that he is not useful for their objectives because he prioritizes himself over their political missions.
Nevertheless, I do not expect anything to happen prior to elections, because the government needs him for a coalition, and the supreme court is not as independent as it should be.
So now you have this ridiculous situation where government ministers are condemning him publicly while doing nothing to demand his removal from the National security position.
So what can I say at this point? Liberalism in Israel is dying, if the opposition doesn't win the next election then I really don't have any positive outlooks for my country which I love so much, but cannot possibly accept the state of, because unlike what you say, nothing matters more than politics for those currently in charge.

azure_beauty@reddit
I don't see it happening. Now once the Knesset is dissolved (any day now) you might see symbolic action as every party jumps into campaign mode and Bibi has less to lose, but the opposition is currently polling just below the threshold of 61 seats, and Bibi's best shot is to not let them gain those last few votes necessary, so I don't think public feuds within his government are going to gain him any votes, most people have already made up their minds.

That's why the second part of my sentence referring to Ireland's lack of ways to pressure Israel is there. pasher5620@reddit
Her relation to a world leader is what gives her extra privileges and protections. That’s a fairly standard practice across the entire planet. Otherwise, it’d be ridiculously easy to kill a politicians family. No surprise that an Israeli supporter wants to feign ignorance to simple facts of reality. Kinda y’all’s standard operating procedure.
azure_beauty@reddit
But you're not answering my question of why?
I understand diplomatic immunity, I understand increased protection for higher value targets, but as a person knowingly breaking the law without representing a diplomatic mission, why are you entitled to diplomatic immunity in a country that never invited you in the first place?
Wolfgang_Pow@reddit
I dont remember the arabs ever inviting yall into their country at all.
pasher5620@reddit
They weren’t going to a country that didn’t invite them. Israel is illegally starving millions of Palestinians and this was a humanitarian mission to render aid and food to those Israel is starving. Israel unilaterally kidnapped these people. That’s what makes this a political issue.
azure_beauty@reddit
Israel is enforcing a legal military blockade, international law mandates that all vessels be intercepted, indiscriminately. So Israel is legally required to intercept her, even though she has famous relatives. Aid found on boats is distributed to Gaza, there is no need to attempt to break a blockade, as Israel time and time again offers to distribute their aid through established channels.
Can you help me understand why you believe she should have greater diplomatic immunity on the basis of her relative being someone important? I struggle to understand your position.

Israel enforces a strict military blockade, international law requires that blockades not be discriminatory, so in that regard Israel is fully within its right to intercept the ships, claims of piracy are not aligned with reality, and the narrative that Israel is preventing aid from entering is predicated on ignoring Israel's consistent distribution of any aid found on the flotillas.
With regards to what happened today, I very much believe that what happened was an embarrassment, and it is evident to anyone with two eyes and ears that Ben Gvir is exploiting his position as head of the police to stage political propaganda videos and hurt people, Israeli and Palestinian alike. Consequently, I believe the entire government is responsible for their failure to adequately punish this sort of conduct. I am not embarassed to say that if I could vote, I would vote for the first politician who promised to throw these criminals in jail and flush the key.
This is a big problem that you will not hear about on anime_titties, but Ben Gvir's police have been used to silence internal dissent, including cutting people's kippahs for having a Palestinian flag, shutting down left wing political stalls, and exploiting/torturing Palestinians for internal propaganda. In the meantime, the mafia controls large swathes of the country and runs massive extortion campaigns forcing businesses to close because they cannot continue to function while having their properties blown up and owners killed.

Thanks for the reasoned answer. Helps me understand things better, for sure.
One follow-up: why is it when it comes to this issue, pro-Israel folks quickly dig into the intricacies of international law ... but when it comes to West Bank settlements (and a few other issues), the refrain is "international law is biased against Israel" and/or "international law is fake/impotent and therefore can be freely ignored"?
Like, for years now I've seen Israeli comments all across social media dismissing any citation of international law, saying it's biased, it's not relevant in the real world, and so on. But now all of a sudden, this action is apparently OK, primarily because it (supposedly, IANAL) complies with the San Marino Accords, or whatever they're actually called.
Does this bug you at all? I can't really help but see it as a sort of reverse "have your cake and eat it too".

No, you just don't give a fuck about Israel starving Palestinians and abusing Irish people.

Oh look it you again in a post about Israel.

Fascists don’t count, buddy.
The rest of us oppose genocide. You get paid to celebrate and defend it.

yeah they just wanna hear the genocidal trash you keep spouting instead.

I really feel like states are giving up on their citizens all around the world. 60 years ago something like that would be a massive diplomatic incident.
MeOldRunt@reddit
No it wouldn't. Europeans bent over backwards 60 years ago to appease Palestinian hijackers and murderers. And they still do. They never cared about their own people enough to use any kind of force to protect them against Arab killings. Instead they traded hostages and impotently made protestations after the fact.
GothicGolem29@reddit
The treatment is awful of course idk why she is saying it was very unanticipated that they would be intercepted though as Israel has done this multiple times before
elihu@reddit
The article is about the interception a couple weeks ago in the vicinity of Greece, nowhere near Israel. As far as I know Israel hasn't intercepted boats that far out before.
OccasionNo2675@reddit
I read that as it's unanticipated under international law but we know that Israel don't care for following international law.
GothicGolem29@reddit
To me it sounded like just unanticipated full stop though its possible she meant that I guess
malakambla@reddit
Isn't it that they have to intercept them if they want to keep up the legality of the blockade? And in case of reasonable suspicion that the flotilla's target is breaching the blockade they can do so in international waters. So it really shouldn't be unanticipated, and tbh I really detest when somebody is playing obtuse to manipulate my emotional response. Unless she was truly unaware, in which case she must really be uninformed about the situation.
And by legality I mean the most advantageous to Israel interpretation of the international law that they're standing by.
hussainhssn@reddit
This is Zionism, same dogshit uncivilized ideology it has always been and always will be. The terrorists that created “Israel” were just that, thugs and criminals that are now celebrated as heroes to boot. Country is a mess and headache for everyone in the world now, and to make things worse nearly the whole lot of them (Mordechai Vanunu being the obvious exception, of course) lie about having nuclear weapons like cowards.
ElephantContent8835@reddit
If Europe wasn’t a giant sack of pussies, maybe they would take care of this problem. Most Americans do not want Israel around, but they simply pay our politicians too much for anything to ever happen.
fudgemental@reddit
Wasn't there a Times of Israel article recently that detailed the growing problem of IDF posting their shit for the whole world to see?
I see that problem isn't limited to just the IDF. People forget that these videos are public and can be saved for posterity or evidence.
Hope this bag of ass gets his comeuppance soon.
miseconor@reddit
They’ve become increasingly emboldened as a result of the west repeatedly turning a blind eye
SpontaneousFlame@reddit
The assumption is that the west will slavishly support every atrocity, forever. Israel has no red lines - none at all, Israel and Jewish Israelis will support any and every atrocity - and it thinks the west will continue to support Israel no matter what.
Judging the current generation of establishment politicians in Europe, Israel is right. But the next generation is going to be a very different story. Unless Israel somehow destroys democracy in most countries in Europe they are going to be left friendless.
Zellgun@reddit
Nah, these people don’t “forget” that these videos are public, they literally just do not care since there is no accountability. In fact, these videos are oftentimes very popular locally in Israel despite what the outside world thinks.

yup, when a politician does something it's for "domestic market" foremost

The first best outcome of the flotilla was getting aid into Gaza.
The second best outcome was drawing international attention to Israel’s disdain for human rights. I.e., intercepting and kidnapping activists in international waters in order to keep blocking aid.
Ben gvir is so fucking stupid and blinded by hatred that he played right into it. He’s a stain on humanity
this-aint-Lisp@reddit
Yeah they surely don’t mass rape Palestinian prisoners when you see these images. Absolutely unthinkable.
