Is learning web dev still worth it with AI being around?

I wanna build my own startup one day.

Since you're looking to build your own startup, why would you not use AI to accelerate that process?

I would but am not sure if it requires web dev as a prerequisite.

To create a successful startup requires a good idea. That is the prerequisite you are looking for.

AI still makes a ton of slip-ups. Claude is getting better, but most models still struggle with refactoring, they just pile new code on top of the old one.
Because of this, I’ve seen databases absolutely bloated with duplicate, outdated data from AI scripts that failed to optimize inputs.
This is why knowing how to code is still non-negotiable. You need to actually understand what is going into your stack. Otherwise, you’ll end up wasting more time debugging messy AI logic than it would have taken to just write it from scratch.

Building/owning/running a startup and doing web dev are VERY different skills. You should pick one. If you don't just like developing software for it's own sake, you probably shouldn't get into it. Go to business school. Network with developers who can already make your ideas come to life. If you want to learn to write the code yourself to avoid having to pay people and get investors, you're setting yourself up to fail. In this day and age it's all about getting investors and having the capital to grow into something that's actually profitable. Monetizing web sites in a meaningful way is incredibly challenging.

How? I've seen people build entire websites using AI which makes me wonder if learning web development is even worth it at all?

It just became part of web dev. It doesn't matter that it's gone, just a different tool to use.

There have been tools to automatically build websites for decades now. Those sites and Ai both technically work, but they are usually pretty insecure and buggy.

The ai versions are better than ever before, but yeah they’re not good enough to need no person yet.

It absolutely it. AI is far from perfect

Is it math still worth it with calculators being around?
glandix@reddit
Yup
