Ideas for European Flying Journey?

I’ll be in Europe with a Cirrus SR22 in late July, early August.
Starting at LIRL (near Rome, Italy) and ending at ESKV (in Sweden)…
I have about one week to fly this route. This is purely for fun, and I can go anywhere within reason.
I’m looking for your ideas on suitable routes with great places to visit, wonderful airports to use, and must see or do experiences.
I would like to avoid crossing the Alps directly if possible.
Please give me your best ideas!

As a swiss, I would never pass the alps up. Its awesome and beautiful. Obviously if you have no experience in the mountains the story changes. Maybe a good opportunity to take a FI with you for this.

I'm passing through the Alps on the way in with another pilot... will be staying and hiking in the Dolomites... anywhere else that you'd recommend I should see?
I have a lot of mountain experience in the USA, my hesitation on crossing the Alps is mostly based on not wanting to wait out weather too long on this trip waiting for a good day. What route would you take through the Alps, and what do you think are the must see airports?

the south of the alps are no interest for you because of the airspace A in Milano, otherwise I would have recomended locarno, is close to the lake, and the restaurant at the airport has one of the best pizzas. but since you will be at the dolomites before, I think going to Innsbruck LOWI, could be worth it. Was there only one time for like 2 hours, so I haven`t seen much, but the old city looks nice. Then from there over the Rheintal/Walensee --> Zürichsee maybe friedrichshafen --> germany etc. depending on where you wanna pass through europe. Just so I`m not liable XD I only have around 70 hrs so don`t know all airports in suisse). From whats on the ground, City of Luzern is really nice, you can do a Boat tour there Duration around 2 hours I think on the Vierwaldstättersee. Otherwise I don`t know whats worth it to get out of the airport and actively do/look at :/

A few suggestions for Germany from south to north:
Freiburg EDTF has a busy GA airfield and good public transport links to the city which is beautiful. The approach is over the city too which is pretty scenic.
Koblenz EDRK is also very scenic being on a plateau above the Moselle river. A nice walk from the airfield through the vineyards takes you to the little town of Winningen where you can try local wines, or get on a train to other cities on the Moselle such as Cochem, Traben-Trarbach or Bernkastel-Kues. This is where most German wines come from.
A bit of a detour is Texel EHTX in the Netherlands. It’s an island in the north sea with a great GA airfield where you can hire bikes or a car for little money and spend some time on the beaches or enjoy the island.
Helgoland EDXH is a challenging airport on sand dunes which may be a bit too short for a Cirrus, but is a must for any GA pilots flying through the area. Tax free shopping and a bizarre landscape thanks to its interesting history. You can see seals on the beach and there’s a huge seabird colony.
If you want a bit more exclusivity and luxury you can head further east and stop off on Vejro EKVO, an island in the Danish baltic with a fancy family run hotel and as far as I am aware, everything they serve in the restaurant there is grown on the island. Quite exclusive and very private.

I can add to this list also EDKB (Bonn Hangelar), a great GA airfield with reasonably good access to both Bonn and Cologne, if you fancy city-exploration over the vineyards of Koblenz.
I heard good things about EDDG (Münster), but never been there myself.
EDDV (Hanover) is also very GA-friendly and they have a ton of amenities

Saving this post for the next time I fly a Warrior across Europe!

Excellent! Amazing ideas! I’ll look at all of this!

Greek Islands are an absolute treat VFR

The problem is that a lot of the airports on these islands are owned by massive companies that have made flying there with GA totally impractical because the fees are outrageous and/or there are parking prohibitions. Basically they’ve just priced GA out and made GA unwelcome.

I've been thinking about that too... which islands would you visit?

I don't think there's a good/bad choice here. Corfu is closest to Italy and has some nice beaches and wonderful views and food.

In Denmark some of the prettier airfields are probably Ærø and Samsø. You should be able to arrange bicycle rentals with local bycicle rental places. Herning isn't very scenic, but you can rent a bedroom in the airport building and there is a shower and kitchen too.

If you have time to go to Croatian I highly recommend LDSB Brac. Awesome airport on a beautiful island. Worth a day or two, maybe renting a moped or something. Beware of weird operating hours.

Mali Losinj LDLO is also a very popular GA airfield and worth visiting from what I’ve heard!

Thank you!
