Native Coffee is losing their space :(

They said they want to reopen within 5 miles of the current location. But I hope they find something in the same area because nothing else is as good!
rowrahs@reddit
i’m saaaaying bro. i was a barista for a good long while and i struggle to find shops where i can trust their coffee beyond a shadow of a doubt. native was one of ‘em, the baristas are cool, and i grew up with their coffee manager. i shouldn’t have to know every person on staff to grab a good cup on a wednesday afternoon.

Other shops that have been consistent for me recently re: hot drinks are Lemma and Houndstooth. LDU is starting to lose consistency but is usually good.
highesttiptoes@reddit
Please move to Josey and valley view, we are in desperate need of a quality coffee shop over here
procrasti_namer@reddit
Ooh, or in the Josey Records building! That would be a dangerous pairing.
Slight-Internet-3612@reddit
All of you who complain about the layout have stopped to read it until you understood it.
That was the point of the layout. You can be a critic, but at least you read the material. Welcome to advertising…
Native was great, hope the new location works out.
icywing54@reddit
Pretty sure I would have ignored it. Looks like a specialty menu or something

I doubt this was intentional on any level and just a quirk of the layout they chose in Canva.
leguuuurl@reddit
this. they def thought it was an edgy cool template at canva.
MooNinja@reddit
the design is terrible, and counter-intuitive to their message. Why create a sign that literally has too much space to reach an audience with a message that they are losing space with the implied message that it is unfairly so. The method that the message is conveyed is not inviting to read, it's annoying and doesn't invoke sympathy from the read because of it.
mineraloil@reddit (OP)
Hey I was the audience (a customer) and I saw the sign lol
stopdioproll@reddit
Or you can just not care.
Icuras1701@reddit
I read it and it made me glad they were losing thier space because this sign was annoying. Not all advertising is good.
SeaConstruction697@reddit
Why is there so much space in the text, it’s annoying
MeatCrack@reddit
Cuz they need the space
Icuras1701@reddit
This made me snort lol
stopdioproll@reddit
Oh, cool, I cackled and spit my coffee out too.
totallynotfromennis@reddit
I guffawed and shit my pants
stopdioproll@reddit
Oh yeah, guffawed is one of the ones they say.
RandomRageNet@reddit
They make good coffee not good graphic design
MooNinja@reddit
because they cooked way too hard, and didn't consider that a sign that desperately needs less space, would accurately convey the message that they are being 'robbed' of the opposite.
jeremysbrain@reddit
Here is a detailed explanation of why they made that design choice.

Ascension is close by! [I’m entirely biased because I do some of the roasting for them/us?, but I have friends that currently manage at NATIVE and I’m also super sad to see them go.] The space is kinda funky in an office, but you don’t have to go through it or anything to get inside.
The Spin is fun and close-ish. Their barista drinks are fun and inspired by the actual people that work the bar, and the baristas pick vinyls from their shop throughout the day.
If anyone has any other recs in the area to try while I’m over there, I wanna hear it!
mineraloil@reddit (OP)
Ascension isn’t good anymore. Not the beans but the drinks made by baristas are always half-assed. The spin is the same, they’re ok for iced drinks just most of these coffee shops aren’t training their staff on proper espresso pulling and steaming/pouring the milk. This is something Native has been consistently elevated on lately, unlike other shops.
rowrahs@reddit
Thank you. i can’t go to ascension without getting burned, super over-steamed milk. the DRIP burned me last time. I can’t go back.
mineraloil@reddit (OP)
My fucking pet peeve. How are you going to charge $6 plus for coffee and the baristas don’t know how to make a hot drink. When I get a chalky foamy cup of coffee I feel like turning into a Karen lol. I think iced coffee has ruined the third wave coffee scene because they don’t bother training on the specifics of how to use the espresso machine and proper milk temp, steaming, etc. because most people get iced coffee with the actual coffee taste covered up by syrups and heavy amounts of milks. Then ask for a giant tip.

The first time I went here, I opened the big double doors not realizing there was a big church in the building. I saw the pews and closed the door expeditiously so as to not be struck down on the spot.
Another time I saw a couple very seriously talking about the man’s infidelity and how she was forgiving him for straying from God.
It’s a bummer they’re losing the space, I got some juicy people watching done there. They have interesting drinks too. Hopefully they can open a new space near there as they said.
mineraloil@reddit (OP)
I noticed that coffee shops always have Christian counseling and study groups going on. And sometimes people just highlighting the Bible and writing the verses down
poptartheart@reddit
does that mean i dont have to wait in a weird fucking church for my coffee?
Womens_Lefts@reddit
They weren’t affiliated with that church, obviously…
SpanishGamer@reddit
They definitely were. I read an article about the opening of the coffee shop post-renovation and one of the co-owners worked directly with the lead pastor of the church. He goes to that church but tried to keep the church and coffeehouse completely separate except on Sundays. I think him and his father co-owned it for a while and then brought in Diego Rodriguez
Womens_Lefts@reddit
Going to the church and having it as an affiliated venture are two separate things. If they were tied to the church, they wouldn’t be losing their lease but having the church stay
DonDoesDallas@reddit
And so it begins.....
MusicalAutist@reddit
They certainly didn't lose the SPACE key on the keyboard
WTR_NNJA@reddit
Based on their signage they have a little to spare.
