It was my favorite cassette that I could easily buy from Target. My older siblings had a bunch of clear neon green ones that I loved but couldn’t find them new.
I still love transparent/translucent electronics. I’ve started a small collection. I have a clear Handspring Visor Deluxe PDA, TI-83, headphones, external disk drive, box of diskettes, guitar tuner, numerous controllers and all of the original iMac keyboards.
There’s a few more things but here’s the guitar tuner in all its iMac-ian glory. I love it so much.
I love near one of the malls that had to shut down because of this. I've seen that Swatch Store and it's rarely busy. Hearing about this collab that blew up is wild.
I had one of those clear phones. I don't know what happened to it during a move that it got a bunch of sugar poured into it. That thing never stopped shedding the odd sugar crystal now and again. I called it my sugar phone.
Yeah, I see this and I think how electronics in prisons are see through to check on hidden contraband. It’s a horrible thought but thinking about it, my brief time as a CO basically killed a lot of enthusiasm for things whimsical like transparent electronics, shoe laces and Jolly Ranchers.
My guess is that a handful of Jolly Ranchers could be warmed up likely through just body heat, softened enough to be molded together into one piece, and then to a point to become a delicious candy shiv.
When i was a pastry chef at a catering company in SD, we had to make 1000 jolly rancher candy shivs for OITNB at comic con. It was awful. Had to unwrap each candy individually, melt it to soft ball and stretch it. The burns 😭
I was surprised a couple of years ago when I learned a fair share of new music is still released on cassettes specifically bc certain cassette designs are the only music format allowed in prison.
Many people collect cassettes. There is even modern versions of the walkmen. The issue is only a handful of companies make the parts for making cassette players so the music quality has gone down. I watched a whole docu video on it and it was rather fascinating.
Theodore Gray's book "How Things Work" has an entire section dedicated to clear electronics/macines! The whole book is fascinating and has incredible photography, but the clear things section was definitely one of my favorites.
I remember when my best friends mom got out of prison. She came home with the COOLEST transparent body TV. Didn’t realize as a child it was so that a convicted manslaughterer couldn’t hide contraband. I think that this trend may have come from prison tech.
I used to have a collection of clear stuff. Phone, alarm clock, wall clock, radio (didn't work great was mostly for display). Pager later on. I used to display them all on a shelf.

im working on it!

I’ve daydreamed about working with acrylic, seems challenging.
CrazyAnchovy@reddit
Oh it's really soft. I have a little bandsww that slices it easily. I've baked it before to a real low temp to bend it.
At the end of covid my job had a whole bunch of those dividers to put on our desks between us and clients and I was allowed to take all of them!
mr-pratfall@reddit
I had soooo many of those cassettes.

Got to explain the finer points of taping EP, SP, and SLP to my kiddo. Plus chronic low grade trauma of the tape cutting off the last song.

Swatches are going viral currently.
beepbooponyournose@reddit
They should do a collab with Apple Watch. I’d buy one so fast
DgingaNinga@reddit
Have you seen the prices of Swatches recently? That is going to be an expensive collaboration.

Recently on Long Island there was a riot over one!

but… but what about the resale value? or, um, the fact that adding color will eat into the shareholder profits?

I was thinking butt stuff. Guess I haven’t spent enough time in prison.

Ha, look what's in the drawer next to me! I found this at a bus stop, probably around 2001 or so, maybe earlier.
fromthedarqwaves@reddit
I had that one! Actually lost it around the same time. Bay Area?

I think I had that exact beeper.
I could probably count the number of messages I received on it using both hands. I was nowhere near popular enough to need a beeper.
Looked cool clipped to my pants though

I had a transparent purple GameBoy Color. That thing rocked
