Whats your second car brand?

Have a theory that lot of enthusiasts have two major car brands they have a affinity to.
Usually more aspirational and workhorse backup brand, just wondering what's people take here?
For me Subaru thanks to growing ip with Grand Turismo on PS1, aspirational. Kia for my daily workhorse, which replaced Honda as cheap and cheerful workhorse daily.
SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS@reddit
I like specific models, so none I guess?
Audi: RS6, TTRS, R8
VW: Golf/R
Kia: Stinger
BMW: Anything with a B58 or S58
Toyota: Supra, LC500
And so on.
Synthecal@reddit
bmw and toyota/lexus.
bmw as primary when I had a garage to work in, lexus now because of apartment parking.
czarfalcon@reddit
BMW to Porsche is a pretty common pipeline, one I plan on following through with someday!
CallLivesMatter@reddit
I landed in the ‘why not both?’ camp and have been satisfied with that choice.
Carrera_996@reddit
I kinda went parallel. I've had a 911 most of of my adult life. My SUV needs changed over the years, though. When I needed a "basic" grocery getter, I drove an X1. When I needed a bigger one, had a Cayenne S. Right now I need a 3 row that can tow a big boat. Porsche doesn't have one. I am still mad I had to let the Cayenne go. Man, that was great car.
strongmanass@reddit
Give it a couple years. A 3 row PHEV is coming soon.
DoktorStrangelove@reddit
Had an X3 like 10yrs ago, then wife had a Macan, now I have a "beater" project Cayenne that I bought to do an offroad build, bunch of other cars in between as we would usually switch out one of our cars every year for a while...we also both had A4s at different points. I really like the look of the M series X3s and the M2 (especially if they do an XDrive), could really see myself going back to BMW for my next car. I will get a 911 at some point down the line, just because I feel like every car person has to scratch that itch once...only reason I haven't yet is because we're in the mountains and our roads are shit, every time I own something with sporty wheels I find myself replacing one or two a year.
So yeah I think BMW/Porsche/Audi is a pretty common oscillation, not so much a pipeline for a lot of people.
ShadyDrunks@reddit
I feel like that’s the people who buy BMW for the brand. BMW to me is special because they mass produce FR I6 cars, doesn’t make sense to me to go from that to rear/rear or rear/AWD
fnkdrspok@reddit
Most of the guys in my car club went this route, started off with M cars, and now they all own 911's and GT2/3 RS's.
PEEWUN@reddit
Volvo and (pre-2020) Mercedes, probably, but i consider myself as a floater, generally speaking.
These past few years have been really rough when it comes to my appreciation for the latter..
AndreLeGeant88@reddit
Currently it's Honda and BMW
SMC540@reddit
Subaru and Honda.
Namely turbo Subarus and 90-00s Hondas
Fiasko21@reddit
Yep, turbo Subarus.. haven't given me an issue in 20 years myself.
But love a good Honda too, so tightly built, they run forever, the chassis are amazing.

Heavy_Gap_5047@reddit
There's no reason a '97 TJ can't be reliable.
Stohnghost@reddit
That's the real answer in this case
2222014@reddit
Its pretty solid
Heavy_Gap_5047@reddit
Yes I do, how do you know?
JxSnaKe@reddit
Idky this made me laugh so hard. Thanks for that
_Just-Browsin-Thru_@reddit
Have never had reliability issues with Ford trucks on the farm. Never driven any sorta car tho.

Fords for Trucks, Mopar for cars.

Fishinabowl11@reddit
I'm not brand loyal at all. I've had, in order, Toyota, Acura, Honda, Honda, Ford, Alfa Romeo, Lotus.
I'll buy an interesting and fun car from any brand that will offer one in my budget.
br0wnpixel@reddit
Honda to Porsche for sure
Badfly48@reddit
Porsche is the fun car, Ford is the workhorse.
Carrera_996@reddit
My wife sure thinks so. She steals my F-150 all the damn time. I don't mind. Excuse to drive the ole 996.

Mopar has always been my main.
Mazda is my #2. IMO they're the only brand right now where you can just tell someone "buy ___ brand" and they cannot buy a piece of crap unless they get unlucky with a lemon, which everyone can accidentally make. Toyota has the horrible iForce engines that have been showing frequent issues, and Honda has had issues with their 1.5T, as well as historically having issues with their hybrids (at least they're notably less reliable than Toyota's hybrids).
And FWIW there isn't a single Mopar product right now that I'd suggest someone buy... Maybe the Ram, but I fear their electronics right now. The old Charger and WK2 Grand Cherokee were the last things they made that I actually thought were any good.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
Honda and Honda. Love me some Hondas.
J-MAMA@reddit
Chevys for fun, Toyotas for reliability
(Even though my Chevrolets have been more reliable than my Toyotas. Let the downvotes commence)
NoctD@reddit
VW and Porsche but I have serious concerns about VW’s future and Porsche is getting out of aspirational reach these days. Toyota might be in the cards - with Akio at the helm they’ve come a long ways from boring reliable Toyota.
Devious_Bastard@reddit
BMW and Pontiac.
fnkdrspok@reddit
Well, I own a Toyota and a Lotus, but my daily is a Lexus.
RelevantJackWhite@reddit
TBH I find myself with less and less brand loyalty by the week. Old brands that were my favorites don't do things well anymore. I'm more and more annoyed by the average modern car.
Maybe I'm just getting old.
KetchupOnThaMeatHo@reddit
Toyota and Ford.
Grew up a ford family but owned a Toyota since I started driving. I now own both.
I_Am_Very_Busy_7@reddit
Mazda. If there’s one (attainable) car brand that can pull me away from my Mini’s, it’s Mazda.
euvnairb@reddit
Started out as a Honda guy and moved to BMW.
illigal@reddit
I’m not tied to a brand. I support all manufacturers that make cool stuff I want to drive.
Currently it’s Chebby with the Corvette, Mazda with the Miata, and Hyundai with the IONIQ 5 N. But id happily own the hell out of a Mustang, M2 Comp, S2000 or Type R, S3, Viper, Cayman, etc.
ms_merry@reddit
Three VW & I’ve happily owned two Toyotas over the years. All have been ten (15 for my last VW) and minimal repair costs. Mostly basic maintenance tires battery.

Ford and Honda. Ford Trucks and Mustangs, Hondas for the wife. I pick the vehicles, she drives an Accord 2.0T right now. All of my vehicles have been very reliable.
whiteghetto@reddit
I don't care about car brands at all. I have the opposite view and think brand fandom, in any aspect, is weird.
enfuego138@reddit
VW and Subaru over the last 20+ years. Impreza TS, Legacy GT wagon, GTI, Forester XT, WRX, Golf R, (another) Golf R, BRZ. Unfortunately I feel like they’ve been drifting away from me as they have both been reducing the number of driver oriented cars from their portfolios. I don’t think there’s a single car either offer right now that I’d buy for either of our daily drivers.
BMW has always been my “aspirational” brand but when it’s come time to actually buy a car I’ve never pulled the trigger. That may likely change next year when my current lease is up.
BlackCatFurry@reddit
Not really brands as much specific cars and those are also in the "if i had a bunch of spare cash floating about" category.
Fun to have: Mazda Miata or Toyota GR Yaris
Workhorse/what i actually have Seat Arona. Although the workhorse brand is probably going to stay in the vw group since their less premium brands are decently affordable but can usually tow their own weight in trailer + load.
K_R_A_K_E_N_540@reddit

Toyota/Nissan
burrgerwolf@reddit
Toyota has been on a roll lately - even if they have some teething issues with new products.
But if we’re going to be real, I hope Nissan can kick it into gear and follow through with their ambitious growth plans and products. I’ve always had a soft spot for them.
ohnosevyn@reddit
Really because it seems the opposite. Toyota has fucked over the tundra engine and Tacoma trans lol still no fix years later. I waited for the 3rd gen tundra too but because Toyota fucked me over on my 2013 FRS I swore I’d never buy from them again. Got a Titan XD 5.6 and it rips, better than my previous 2nd gen tundra.
MysticMarbles@reddit
Mitsubishi. Just because they made the 6th gen Mirage.

BMW and Alfa Romeo - but I’m more into good cars than any brand.
AnonymousEngineer_@reddit
I've always been a Volkswagen Group person. I'm not sure exactly why, but there's something about the way they design their cars that suits me at some level. I currently have a Volkswagen, but I'd love a Porsche one day. Maybe if I can ever make the maths work out, that might happen one day.

Toyota is suppose to be the reliable daily driver and the RX-7 the fun car that is a blast to drive but have to worry about every little thing.

I don't have a main one to begin with.
Alfa Romeo, Peugeot and Citroën are the three I tend to gravitate towards, more or less equally. Talking about classics here, I don't really have any interest in buying a newer car.

Hmmm I struggle with an affinity for even one to be honest.
I grew up as a ford guy, but I haven’t owned one for many years now. Currently driving my first Subie and I’m a big fan. Favorite car I ever owned was a mustang though.
If I had money I’d buy a 911 so I’m gonna say Porsche first, Ford 2nd….but ford could get replaced by Subaru down the line
