People of MK. What do you call this geographical feature?

The raised path that runs along the M1 to the Northeast of MK.
Immediate_Case_6470@reddit
No idea why people choose to move here when there are plenty of other housing options that aren’t right next to the M1!
Electrical_Way_8277@reddit
Don't know this one but they are normally put in after caravans get evicted
Still-Improvement-32@reddit
It's a mound to reduce noise from the M1.
RMFrankingMachine@reddit
Hah. It helps but doesn't do a good enough job, I lived there for a year and, where I was it was still too loud to be able to open your windows on that side of the property.
Insane to be building houses less than 100 yards from the M1...
Unknown_Author70@reddit
Are there no trees? Trees would have been a far better solution.
RMFrankingMachine@reddit
They have planted some trees and some shrubs but they're still saplings really. Even once they're fully grown they'll only do so much.
While I think about it, the developers also kinda fucked up with their design of houses, they stuck up lots of 3 story buildings with large flat walls which just reflected the sound back down from all sides.
Better_Opposite5130@reddit
When they were building it there was an article in citizen saying that they were going to build a hill measuring nearly one mile to protect the estate from road noise
My wife said “that’s high isn’t it?”
God bless her.
a_sphinctersays_what@reddit
Hopefully you never let her live that down
kopsy@reddit
We call it Windy Hill
Contact_Patch@reddit
It's a Berm, if it had a road/railway on the top it'd be an Embankment.
Noticeably missing from all the new estates.
Fair-Lengthiness-212@reddit
Bund is a berm specifically to shield sound
Contact_Patch@reddit
(not a geophysics engineer) I thought Bunds were to reduce flood risk?
EUskeptik@reddit
Upvoted for Berm.

Brooklands Ridge
butthole_network@reddit
It's a sound barrier to stop the noise of the M1 landing in Brook lands. It works surprisingly well. It's also nice to run along.
a_sphinctersays_what@reddit
I run there too, maybe I've passed you butthole_network 🤔
I like the little loop at the end where the time capsule is
RMFrankingMachine@reddit
Hah. Maybe but I lived there for a year and it definitely doesn't work well enough, where I was it was still too loud to be able to open your windows on that side of the property.
Ch1L5t3R@reddit
I walk there often with mt dog. We call it 'The ridge walk'
EUskeptik@reddit
I call it “air pollution, potentially highly carcinogenic, probably best avoided.”

Isfacetious@reddit
It is called a sound bank
HappyLittleSlowpoke@reddit (OP)
The guys in my neighbourhood call it "The Ridge" which has a nice ring to it.
mkten@reddit
That's the Brooklands Ridge 👍🏻
