Big Update for Car Enthusiasts: Real-Time OBD2 Analytics Like Engine Load Now on CarPlay

Hello everyone,
A lot of users from my previous CarPlay post requested OBD2 support, so after a lot of work, the feature is finally live in Speedometer: Driving Tracker.
You can now see and analyze real-time OBD2 vehicle data directly from CarPlay, iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch (via live activity).
One thing I personally found really interesting while testing was seeing how different driving styles affect engine behavior throughout an entire trip, not just live gauges while driving.
For example, things like:
• Engine Load
• RPM
• Throttle Position
• Coolant & Oil Temperature
• Fuel Usage
• Mass Air Flow
• Intake/Ambient Air Temperature
• And more
I added a sample trip summary screenshot below showing how the app now visualizes engine performance for a drive.
It even works with automatic trip recording through Shortcuts automations (when OBD2 device is connected), so trips can start recording automatically without manually opening the app.
One important note: every car exposes different OBD2 sensors, so some vehicles may not provide all data points shown in the screenshot.
The goal wasn’t just to make another OBD2 gauge app, but to make driving history and car data feel more visual, insightful, and actually enjoyable to revisit later.
Other existing features in the app:
• CarPlay trip tracking
• 3D route playback
• Speed-colored trip replay
• Video recording with speed + map overlays
• Fuel, maintenance, and expense tracking
• Vehicle-based analytics & comparisons
• iCloud sync across Apple devices
• Privacy-first experience (no ads/tracking/signups)
Now it’s becoming one of the most comprehensive driving tracker apps available on any platform, whether iOS or Android!
Would genuinely love feedback from fellow car enthusiasts on what data, analytics, or visualizations you’d like to see.

What is free and what is premium?

All core features like tracking, analytics, live OBD2 data, fuel/cost/maintenance tracking, backup, sync, etc are free.
Some advanced features like route playback, trends, and deeper insights are part of Premium. You’ll get the details in the paywall view.

Readers: please don’t be dumb enough to download a free app that tracks all of this data. This post is self-promotion and it doesn’t take a genius to understand how this free app will eventually make money.
Them saying “privacy-first experience” is absolutely meaningless no matter what OP will assuredly try to use to defend (look how defensive they get at every other comment…). Even if it truly keeps your data private NOW, that does not mean anything if they sell or decide to start selling data in the future.
You don’t need it. They need you. Don’t fall for it.

"Here’s a polished App Store reply (Apple-compliant, short and professional):
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! I really appreciate you choosing the lifetime version and taking the time to share your experience. ..."
Bro, you gotta clean out the AI preamble 😭 makes the whole app look vibe coded. This is from the first review I saw on the store
Also how does this app get OBDII data? Is that something CarPlay just provides? Or is there hardware necessary?
Taohid101@reddit (OP)
Sorry, I missed that. For some generic replies, I took help from AI tools. Otherwise, it would take a huge amount of time to reply to every review individually.
That said, I don't think a "vibe-coded" app could realistically get Apple’s CarPlay Driving Task approval process approved. Apple is extremely strict with CarPlay apps, especially in this category.
For OBD2, the flow is: OBD2 adapter -> iPhone/iPad -> CarPlay
So CarPlay itself doesn’t provide vehicle diagnostics data. The app reads data from a compatible OBD2 hardware adapter connected to the phone, then syncs/showcases it across devices including CarPlay.
Also, the app works great even without an OBD2 device if someone doesn’t want vehicle diagnostics data. OBD2 is completely optional. A lot of users mainly use it for trip tracking, driving history, route playback, fuel/expense logging, driving analytics, CarPlay experience, and cross-device sync across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and CarPlay.

No doubt. No accusations made here.
I've plenty experience dealing with apples app certifications. Just more of a friendly lookout to avoid bad impressions :)
Appreciate the info, I couldn't immediately find which obdII devices are supported. I currently don't have a bluetooth one as I'm using a Cobb AP and an X431, but I find the concept of a CarPlay-centric one very enticing. Especially for the gauge layout

Haha, got it! Thanks for the friendly heads-up!
I really appreciate the insight from someone familiar with Apple’s certification process.
You can find the OBDII compatibility details in:
Garage -> OBD II -> About & Compatibility
I tested the app with various OBD2 readers, including some inexpensive ones, and they all worked well during my testing.
