Current best practice regarding upgrading storage?

I'm planning a storage upgrade as part of a larger upgrade I'm making. I had been planning to just swap my existing 256 gig M.2 drive over to my new motherboard, and just put an additional 1 terabyte M.2 drive in a different slot, but I heard that you should always start fresh on an upgrade to avoid driver issues. Is that correct? If so, where should I start from?

The safest option is to install Windows fresh when you make a big upgrade like changing out the motherboard.

Alright, thanks for the info. Related question - do I use my old windows 10 install media, make a new media for 10, or bite the bullet and go to eleven? Is there a current working method to get a local account with 11?

You can use your windows 10 key and I suggest downloading all your drivers unzipped ahead of time. Download windows 11 use the media creation tool. Use the quick boot button to start up the USB drive instead of making first boot. You can place all the unzipped driver folders onto the USB driver after creating windows 11 installer.
