Where can I find local, independent monster truck rallies?

I really want to go to a monster truck rally, but I'm not super interested in Monster Jam or the Hot Wheels event because they seem more geared towards kids and heavily produced. I want something a little more old-school.
I live in California, so I know my options are a little limited here.

Look for county fairs.
For example, the Orange County Fair has the Kicker Monster Truck Show (may still not be exactly what you’re looking for).
The Orange County Fair also has ten different demolition derbies.
I know California is huge and you may not live anywhere near Orange County, I just chose that because I know it’s one of the bigger county fairs in California.

This is great info, thank you!

It doesn't exist, or it does, but the guys doing Monster Jam are the original Monster truck families from the 70's and 80's. All of them work together now, the trucks are mostly interchangeable and the whole thing is run more as an entertainment product than a race team. The trucks are just too expensive to build for most privateers and there isn't really any venue for them outside of Monster Jam et al.

I don’t know how much of a rally it is but our county fair puts on a good show.

Sounds like you want to attend a county fair some place.

All you need is a 30 pack of Busch, a handful of unemployed gentlemen, and a mud hole.

Where are the free-range, organic, cage-free, vegan monster truck rallies???

Believe it or not, California isn't the only place with no amateur monster truck circuit.

Google search as a regional question. The best you should expect is a Monster Truck display where you can see Hobbyists productions.

My county fair it’s monster jam for the monster trucks but they do have other stuff that’s more old school like demolition derby. That’s over the summer.

I miss the days of NHRA sanctioned monster truck races. Feld entertainment somehow ended up with the rights to most of the top teams and turned out into the monster jam shows we have today.

Your options are a little limited everywhere. Indie monster truck rallies aren't really a thing. Monster jam was rad when I was a kid, just go do that.

Look for small town fairs and more rural areas. Big cities get Monster Jam in arenas. Small towns get you the stuff you’re looking for.

That doesn't really exist. There is a reason why you don't hear about Monster Trucks outside of Monster Jam.

Dude Monster Jam is so rad.
