9070 XT vs 5070 — which GPU should I get?

So I’m looking to upgrade my GPU and I’m stuck between the RTX 9070 XT and the RTX 5070.
Right now the 5070 Ti is the one I really want, but in Australia it’s sitting at around $1400 AUD which is just too expensive / hard to find. 😩
Both the 9070 XT and the 5070 are floating around $900–$1000 AUD, which is more within reach for me.

Obviously 9070xt it rivals the 5070ti. Why would you want the weaker version of the 5070ti over the literal competitor?

Not everyone games to that extent. Price matters.
Some people could also need CUDA more than they game.
There's also the issue of power draw and whether the person games enough to make the 9070xt worth paying the additional power bills.
It's always a balancing exercise of needs vs budget.
Now if you tell me the 9070XT was $300 cheaper than the 5070, then absolutely.

Op states that the 9070xt and 5070 float around 900-1000 AUD so I assumed the prices were the same.

Yup they’re the same for me.

I don't use GPU for gaming. Playing FIFA without knowing role of CUDA. As you mentioned here, what is role of CUDA in game. Does it outperform than Redian GPU.

Got ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 OC couple weeks ago. It can be upgraded to XT with BIOS flash. Got ongoing issue where the PC hard crashes an hour or so within most of the games yet all th benchmarks run stable. Not sure if my CPU 5700X cant handle the memory addressing as it's quite dated. But there is a mountain of posts with similar issues on Reddit . My previous GPU 3070ti was stable for 5 years ...

Can we rename this subreddit to r/9070or5070 already?
assholejudger954@reddit
That change belongs to r/gpu

Today, 9070 xt, tomorrow, maybe 5070.
Will vram always be such an issue? Will DLSS just out perform other alternatives?
I'd go 9070 xt or 5070 ti / 5080.

You reckon I get the 9070xt now and wait a year to get 5070ti?
STRYED0R@reddit
If you have to and have the cash, 9070xt now and maybe snatch a 5080 in a few months?
I'm hunting for a 5080 after getting a 5070. No rush.
SevenDeMagnus@reddit
if your main game uses ray tracing (or its more advanced path tracing) 5070 but if not then the 9070

The main games I play is forza horizon 5/6, cyberpunk, assetto corsa, beam ng and apex legends.

i went with a 5070 because it was cheaper than a 9070xt for any sales i could find, and my monitor is old and has hardware-only gsync so i'd need a new monitor too if i went AMD. most people say if all else is the same (price, availability of VRR), the 9070 XT is the choice over the 5070.
bakuonizzzz@reddit
For the price definitely 9070xt unfortunately the 5070ti isn't worth 400aud more unless you really want the features.
specn0de@reddit
9070xt without question

I went 5070 to 9070xt (also in aus) and am very happy with the Radeon card. Much faster
