Who is the most quintessential Gen X actor/actress?

I’m watching a movie right now that I really like and the actor is one of the best Gen X actors I know of and like a lot. Would like to see if he is mentioned. Go!
poop_on_you@reddit
John Cusack. One of the few actors we think of as Gen X who was actually born in Gen X

He missed us by a year or two, but Keanu Reeves should 100% be honorary GenX.

I read these comments abd I have one question. Did Black, Brown, or Asian actors exist in your world??? I mean damn lol
esk_209@reddit
Will Smith and Halle Berry.
MrNinoBrown1906@reddit
For Black Folks the actors would bepeople like Nia Long, Tae Diggs, Regina King, Morris Chestnut, Sanaa Lathan, etc.....
esk_209@reddit
I can’t speak for black folks! I think of GenX black actors - those who were peak 80s hits, I think of Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison, but I don’t think they’re actually GenX? I think they’re very young boomers. Absolutely Regina King. I know Tae Diggs is our age, but he started acting later I thought? I think of him as a 90s actor.
I’d completely forgotten about Sanaa Lathan! I just looked her up and it she’s got an “upcoming” credit for Miss Cleo - THAT’s peak GenX!
MrNinoBrown1906@reddit
I was born in the late. The 90s resonate more with me than the 80s. Thats part of the disconnect

Depends on what you mean by quintessential.
If you are wanting a Gen X actor and actress that were very successful, I'd say Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts.
If you are wanting a Gen X actor and actress that were successful but also embodied the perceived personality of Gen X, I'd say Robert Downey Jr and Wynona Ryder.

Tom Cruise is definitely a boomer. Look for someone born after 1965.

1961-1965 is really the overlap of Generation Jones and Generation X, the cusp. Not Boomers......post-Boomer

FrancinetheP@reddit
This is the key question. To the extent that we identify with our youth, older Gen Xers grew up watching Boomers and Generation Jones actors, not members of our own cohort.

Oldman in True Romance was flawless

Other GenX actors: Jeffrey Wright, Viola Davis, Don Cheadle, (Chris Farley), Brad Pitt, Jodie Foster, James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker, George Clooney, Michael J. Fox.
I think Michael J. Fox would get my vote for representing GenX. He played a yuppie, a nerd, a slacker/smart-ass, a werewolf, something in spin city (I can't remember) and a thousand other roles.
I think John Cusack nailed the vibe of the younger Xers. Fatalistic, bit laid back but panics about stupid stuff, dark humor, etc.

I was going to say Johnny Depp but sadly he is apparently a Boomer.
River Phoenix seems about right since he died partying and wasted so much talent.
It's not Leonardo Dicaprio in my opinion but he is probably the most successful.
Matt Damon & Ben Affleck are too hard to separate.
Keanu Reeves is just barely GenX I think. I'm going to go with him. He's a kind person, chill, and is in ironically great stuff like Bill & Ted and Point Break, one of the all time greatest action/sci-fi movies like The Matrix, plays bass in a band, and has a lot of indie movie cred as well.
